What: Luceti Projects meet-and-greet!
When: Backdated to the 22nd. Begins at noon, lasts all day.
Where: The barracks.
Summary: A few LP members have organized a get-together at the barracks for those with an interest in Luceti Projects to talk, eat, and relax while socializing.

[ Quite a bit of thought and elbow grease has been put into preparing the barracks for this event. A banner is tacked across above the entrance that reads, "Welcome to Luceti Projects Opening Celebration!" in green paint. It's not exactly the sort of arts and craft masterpiece it could have been had they enlisted the help of one of the kids (such as Ikki), but it's better than nothing.

Just before entering the main festivities is a table with a sign-up sheet, manned by different members of Luceti Projects on a rotating basis, to answer questions or encourage sign-up.

Through the open doors of the barracks' largest hall, long wooden farmstyle tables have been set in rows to encourage mingling, placed adjacent to tables filled with food and drink that hug the walls. A wide range of different appetizers, snacks, and larger entrees have been set out for attendees, with plenty of plates, utensils, cups, and napkins. As a way to encourage more cultural exchange, the cuisine, catered by Okumura Rin, includes a little from different worlds -- cheese and crackers; sushi and yakitori; pasta and roast chicken; salads and other vegetable dishes, including a vegetable and potato stew, heavily featuring corn. A few sweets, such as cookies and a few cakes, sit alongside the savory dishes, next to which sits a very large bowl of non-alcoholic fruit punch (courtesy of Ms. Ginia). There is plenty of water, soft drinks, teas and coffee, and milk.

For those interested in trying out a more communal dish, placed about every five feet of table is a hot pot, specifically for sukiyaki, inside which vegetables, mushrooms, tofu, thin-sliced beef slowly simmer in a delicate broth of soy sauce, mirin, and sugar. Under these simmering ingredients is a base of udon and shirataki noodles to soak up the broth. Small bowls, utensils, and condiments such as soy sauce and eggs for the sauce, sit alongside each pot to encourage communal sharing.

On the other side of the hall is a wet bar (wo)manned by Ginia, with plenty of booze and an alcoholic variety of punch. Coolers filled with beer sit on the floor behind the wet bar. Martinis and other mixed drinks will be served in biodegradable plastic cups.

The smell of charcoal and wood burning wafts through the open back doors, from the glow of a respectably sized bonfire built behind the building, alongside which a long table is set, its surface filled with an assortment of graham crackers, chocolate, marshmallows, large sausages, kabobs with different meats and vegetables, and skewers for roasting.

A few yards away are the outdoor training grounds where a rather large array of weapons, both lethal and non-lethal of the wooden variety, have been set out for anyone who would like to spar. Some dried-out logs have been repurposed into a spectator area. The only rules posted: no use of magic or anything else that could critically harm opponents or spectators. No guns, except in the target practice area. Absolutely no killing. ]


(OOC: Assume that your character will be served drinks by Ginia at the bar, so use the bar area to mingle with whomever else, unless you’d like a thread. If your character would like to man the sign-up area, feel free to just drop them in on anyone. If they don’t know how to answer a question, just have them direct anything to either Erwin or Kakashi. Most importantly, have fun!!

Bonfire

[ Kakashi had expected that Masaomi would show up, but hadn't expected Linda to be in tow as well. He supposes that it makes enough sense, after all, both times he ran into Masaomi in person, Linda was with him, so she's probably always by his side.

He'd just skewered a few sausages for roasting, but upon spotting Linda, sets his skewers down for a moment and disappears into the main hall to return with an apple, which he swiftly peels, cores, and cuts into pieces that he sticks onto a skewer. With his own skewers and the apple kabob in hand, he heads over to Masaomi and Linda. ]

Yo.

[ Said as he approaches. His own dogs are off somewhere playing, so they're missing out on more Linda action. ]

Fruit kabob?

[ He remembers Masaomi had mentioned Linda liked fruit, right? So here he is, offering the fruit skewer to the young man. ]

[ Fruit? He looks a little confused a moment, but then comprehends what must be the intent, shrugs, and takes it. Linda, for her part, gives a lazy wave of her tail from Masaomi's shoulder And he smiles himself ]

Sure, I'll take it off your hands.

[ Kakashi hands the fruit skewer over, then shifts his sausage skewers, holding it out over the flames to roast. ]

So, are you having a good time?

[ He sure as hell isn't, but he's rather good at hiding any discomfort he might have. Social events packed with people that require him to be overwhelmingly social isn't exactly Kakashi's usual idea of "fun." But it comes with the job description, and he figures as long as other people are having fun, that's what matters. ]

Oh, you know me. I'm having a blast -- oh wait, you don't know me that well yet!

[ And he laughs at this forced joke. Because his jokes are hilarious. And as he laughs he waves his arms before doubling over a little - and Linda hops off him at that, grabbing the fruit stick as she goes. Rolling her eyes ]

[ That's certainly an understatement.

Kakashi barely knows this kid at all. Masaomi certainly seems perceptive, and if Shikamaru is friends with him, that means there's something about him worth knowing (and perhaps protecting). That he's protective of Shikamaru means that he's capable of caring for others, but his presence here isn't without some question -- as much as he's contributed by means of suggestions and open conversation, Kakashi knows Masaomi has his own reservations about an alliance of this nature, regardless of what they choose to call it. The kid clearly distrusts authority figures (judging by his insistence against having any sort of real leadership).

He has a guarded quality to him, and wears his smile like armor.

(Kakashi knows a thing or two about that.)

He's not entirely sure how he's supposed to respond to the laughter, which doesn't feel particularly genuine to him at all. But then, Masaomi can be a little tough to read. ]

Mmm~

[ It's a noncommittal sound then, in response. Might as well give him the lead by not saying much (or anything) at all, as Kakashi turns the sausage skewers. ]

[ The smile remains on his lips. It's a typical smile for him - broad and sincere enough looking in that it's jovial. It doesn't meet his eyes though - the normal smile rarely does. He keeps his gaze on Kakashi though - the guy... well he'd be lying if he said he was totally cool with him, but he'd also be lying if he said that he disliked him. He's not quite sure where to place the fellow, but if he's here, he might as well be open to it. ]

Still, can the host here afford to be at a bonfire... or would the host more technically be the elusive Hokage-sama?

[ Linda, meanwhile, is zoning out this dumb intrigue and just eating the fruit. Because humans and their intrigue is so dumb can't they just fight to determine things like reasonable beings? ]

[ Kakashi's not sure if he likes the way "Hokage-sama" rolls off the tip of Masaomi's tongue, but he simply just turns the sausages he holds over the fire as he glances over the younger man. ]

Yondaime Hokage-sama is a very busy man. My job is to make his easier. I wouldn't be a very good host if I didn't make sure to spend time with the guests, would I.

[ Busy. What in the hell can you possibly be busy with in Luceti is his first though... but then he recalls Naruto is kidnapped or something based on the fact he hasn't been around or into work. So he shrugs it off and forgives the guy, even if that was a really lame excuse in his opinion. No need to drag the guy's personal business into it. Which is why Masaomi shrugs it off, a slight smile still on his lips ]

True, true. And you've been going around doing that, from what I've seen.

[ Kakashi's eye curls into a perfect arc then. A smile, perhaps. ]

Well, it comes with the job description.

[ And then he gently shrugs, trying not to think too much about Minato and Kushina and what they're going through right now with Naruto's absence. How hard they've taken it. ]

In any case, you wanted to introduce me to that Commander fellow, didn't you?

[ Kakashi nods, and then gestures for Masaomi to follow him. ]

I did. Come on, I'll introduce you two.

[ And then he leads Masaomi over to Erwin, to make a proper introduction. ]

Well, he puts his hands in his pockets and makes to follow. Linda notices they are going as they start to go, and she makes to follow, still eating her fruit ]

[ Erwin is at the sign-up table at the moment, so it isn't difficult to find him. He looks up at once when the two of them approach, meeting Kakashi's eye only briefly before turning his attention to Masaomi. He remembers him, though they haven't met yet; rather, he remembers Masaomi's response to Kakashi's initial entry, when he had first presented the idea for the organization. Curious that they should be here together now.

Nonetheless, he stands to greet him properly. ]

Masaomi Kida, if I'm not mistaken? [ He knows that he isn't, and offers a friendly--if formal--hand across the small table. ] Erwin Smith.

[ Eesh, so he's one of those disturbing guys who stalk people on the journals, make sure they know everyone, and does the whole thing like that. Maybe it's just that he's old. Either way, the young man slides his hands out of his pocket and takes hand. It's not a basic thing for his culture, but why not. He's encountered it a lot in Luceti, do it's still second nature ]

Yeah, that's me. Nice to meet you, Smith-san.

[ Kakashi's not at all surprised that Erwin knows who Masaomi is. After all, he's fairly certain that Erwin had followed every single conversation on the initial alliance post, as well as its follow-up. Masaomi's conversation was probably one that stood out, if only because he had been an initial conscious objector. His advice and insight, though, had proven to be helpful. ]

It's my understanding that Masaomi-kun had a few ideas he wanted to share tonight. I thought it would be good for you two to meet as well.

[ Yeah, it's probably just that he's old.

Or creepy. Or creepy and old. ]

[ His tone is still good natured, but his smile does not reach his eyes. One hand remains in his pocket, but the other waves the hand he had used to shake a little dismissively ]

Maa, you seem like the kind of guy that can handle a little pressure.

[ Or is he wrong about the kid? Either way, business is business, and they might as well get that part of it out of the way. ]

[ Erwin won't push him; if Masaomi has something to say, they have given him the opportunity to do so. ]

[ This is such a fantastic joke, clearly. With his grin getting a lot wider and more impish ]

[ There's a beat, and then a slight shift in Kakashi's demeanor as his shoulders relax just a touch. ]

I wasn't exactly planning on stringing you up, Masaomi-kun, but if you'd really like that kind of treatment, I'm sure we can find a way to accommodate you~
