What: Luceti Projects meet-and-greet!
When: Backdated to the 22nd. Begins at noon, lasts all day.
Where: The barracks.
Summary: A few LP members have organized a get-together at the barracks for those with an interest in Luceti Projects to talk, eat, and relax while socializing.

[ Quite a bit of thought and elbow grease has been put into preparing the barracks for this event. A banner is tacked across above the entrance that reads, "Welcome to Luceti Projects Opening Celebration!" in green paint. It's not exactly the sort of arts and craft masterpiece it could have been had they enlisted the help of one of the kids (such as Ikki), but it's better than nothing.

Just before entering the main festivities is a table with a sign-up sheet, manned by different members of Luceti Projects on a rotating basis, to answer questions or encourage sign-up.

Through the open doors of the barracks' largest hall, long wooden farmstyle tables have been set in rows to encourage mingling, placed adjacent to tables filled with food and drink that hug the walls. A wide range of different appetizers, snacks, and larger entrees have been set out for attendees, with plenty of plates, utensils, cups, and napkins. As a way to encourage more cultural exchange, the cuisine, catered by Okumura Rin, includes a little from different worlds -- cheese and crackers; sushi and yakitori; pasta and roast chicken; salads and other vegetable dishes, including a vegetable and potato stew, heavily featuring corn. A few sweets, such as cookies and a few cakes, sit alongside the savory dishes, next to which sits a very large bowl of non-alcoholic fruit punch (courtesy of Ms. Ginia). There is plenty of water, soft drinks, teas and coffee, and milk.

For those interested in trying out a more communal dish, placed about every five feet of table is a hot pot, specifically for sukiyaki, inside which vegetables, mushrooms, tofu, thin-sliced beef slowly simmer in a delicate broth of soy sauce, mirin, and sugar. Under these simmering ingredients is a base of udon and shirataki noodles to soak up the broth. Small bowls, utensils, and condiments such as soy sauce and eggs for the sauce, sit alongside each pot to encourage communal sharing.

On the other side of the hall is a wet bar (wo)manned by Ginia, with plenty of booze and an alcoholic variety of punch. Coolers filled with beer sit on the floor behind the wet bar. Martinis and other mixed drinks will be served in biodegradable plastic cups.

The smell of charcoal and wood burning wafts through the open back doors, from the glow of a respectably sized bonfire built behind the building, alongside which a long table is set, its surface filled with an assortment of graham crackers, chocolate, marshmallows, large sausages, kabobs with different meats and vegetables, and skewers for roasting.

A few yards away are the outdoor training grounds where a rather large array of weapons, both lethal and non-lethal of the wooden variety, have been set out for anyone who would like to spar. Some dried-out logs have been repurposed into a spectator area. The only rules posted: no use of magic or anything else that could critically harm opponents or spectators. No guns, except in the target practice area. Absolutely no killing. ]


(OOC: Assume that your character will be served drinks by Ginia at the bar, so use the bar area to mingle with whomever else, unless you’d like a thread. If your character would like to man the sign-up area, feel free to just drop them in on anyone. If they don’t know how to answer a question, just have them direct anything to either Erwin or Kakashi. Most importantly, have fun!!

[Vash's attention is a bit distracted for a moment from Itachi's question. Vash hasn't had sukiyaki before, but it sure looks tasty. He'll just slide up next to Law to have a look and try to serve himself a bit out of one of those pots.]

Oh you know, [He eventually answers.] Keeping busy. Helping out at Seventh Heaven when they need it and Azalea too. Oooh! That looks pretty tasty! [And reaching for a piece of meat.]

[Oh, the piece of meat Law is also reaching for beforehand and grabbing hold of?

Oh are we going for a repeat of before?

Damn, looks like.

Law's eyes slide to the slide and there is a vicious warning growl from his stomach. You better not be about to kick up another fuss.]

[Itachi is deadpanning his hardest at both of you right now.]

[If by fuss Law means that Vash will narrow his eyes at the doctor and pull on the bit of meat closer to his plate then, yes. He's causing a fuss.]

Hey! That piece is mine! You already stole food from me!

[deathsdoctor]

[You know what? Losing patience with this. That piece of meat is going nowhere as Law's own grip on it remains firm.

Instead he turns slightly to stare Vash straight in the eye, saying nothing. Stare unblinkingly.

Have you ever gotten between Luffy and his meat, Vash? You may recognize this stare.]

*cuts in line like the dirty outlaw Vash is*

[He may recognize that stare in Law's eye, but it's nothing to the stare he's gotten from Legato. You want scary? Look into that guy's eyes for awhile.

When the fork fails to move the meat closer to his mouth Vash has a genius idea. He'll move his mouth closer to the meat! In the blink of an eye Vash is leaning down and that piece of meat will be vanishing into his stomach!]

[Law. Please don't get in a scrap with someone over food. You'll embarrass your husband.

Or the ninja could just stand quietly, sip his drink and watch the proceedings with his completely unfazed expression.]

[Scrap? Noooo. Not unless Vash throws the first punch.

At this moment. NO PROMISES.

Instead he's going to continue staring down at Vash. Look just how close his mouth is to his hand. We have better ways to deal with this.

One finger twitches.

There's a bottle of potent hot sauce on the table. With that twitch a glob of it appears right from the unopened bottle and right on Vash's tongue as he's swallowing.]

[Vash chews his victory with a pleasant hum. It really was super tasty! He's very happy with his victory for the moment.]

[Moment's gone. Hot sauce is on his tongue. Vash shouts at the top of his lungs before jumping up and down. It was hot and it hurt!] WATER! WATER! WATER! [Vash forgets all about his fight with Law to run off to where the punch and other drinks have been set up.]

[Law gets a look for that one, but Itachi isn't going to be attempting to step between them any time soon.]

You may want to try milk, if they have any.

[Or something cold and creamy, anyway.]

[What? Pirates don't back down. Letting him get away with it would have been showing weakness.

He always could have gone the Nami and Sanji route. This way is much less violent.]

[At least the Nami and Sanji route Vash would understand what had happened to him. He's not sure if the meat was just spicy, but something in his gut tells him that it had SOMETHING to do with Law.

That feeling being a horrible, burning sensation. Which the gunman is doing his best to be rid of. There's no milk, but Vash is pouring himself drink after drink of some of the punch. Hopefully no one had spiked it yet. It's doing little to dull the pain or tears streaming down Vash's eyes as he tries to cool his mouth down.]

[Calmly, Itachi turns and walks away for a moment. When he returns, he has two bowls of green tea ice cream. Just to be fair.

He hands one to his husband, then takes the other to Vash. One has to take advantage of the good flavors when they're available.]

[Hopefully no one had spiked it means that most likely someone HAS spiked it, given all the people coming through, and more than a few in the crowd having a decidedly prankful bent.

But mmmmm... green tea ice cream.] Thank you. [They don't get this in the village often.]

[In a pause from another hastily drank glass of punch, Vash takes the offered ice cream as he attempts to catch his breath. Smashing the cold, creamy treat against his tongue.

He breathes a sigh of relief as it finally helps a bit. He'd say thanks but is mouth is a bit full at the moment. Eventually he pulls the ice cream away so he can speak.] Careful with that dish! It's really spicy!

Thankfully it's not something that tempts me, then.

[Spicy meatballs. Who knew.]

Hmmmm... [Making an intrigued noise as he takes a tiny bite of the sukiyaki off his plate. Now to sell it.

Fingers twitch again and some spice lands on his own tongue. That might have been a little too much spice and the start Law makes is real.

Starting to sweat a little.] Hooooh... It's got heat.

I tried to warn you! [Whatever Law gets at this point is his own fault. He tried to warn him!] I think I had an exceptionally hot piece. It tasted like a whole bottle of hot sauce suddenly landed on my tongue! It was really tasty until that part!

[But this ice cream is making it all better now! And once it's finished he'll try something else to eat!]

Curious. It doesn't smell spicy at all. Perhaps I would have to get closer.

[Oh the whims of a pirate.]

[Aaa... and now you want your fun, eh, partner?

There's a wry little smile before he devours another item. Well, fair enough.]

Yeah, that's why it was so surprising! It didn't look or smell spicy! I don't know if I'd get too close to it if I were you! That stuff could probably burn through your skin!

[Vash sure isn't going to be going anywhere near that dish anymore. Not when there were so many other good looking dishes here. Oh! Like those cute little hotdogs on sticks with dipping sauces. He'll go for those instead.]

[If he has to deal with you both, partner, he might as well get in a jab or two.]

Aa. Consider me duly warned.

[Though there's no need, of course. Meat and all.]

[What are you holding up there Law? Tell me of that delicious looking thing that you're holding? Vash is guessing it's vegetarian in nature after what Itachi said before, but that also looks a bit like breading around whatever it is.

Darn, what is it? He needs to know if he can eat it.] What is that? Some sort of breaded, fried food?

[Fried food is fine, so long as it wasn't covered in bread or flour before frying.]
