Even now, there are only embers...

Summary: Saori and Vegeta are stuck living out a Fairy Tale RPG adventure with Cliff as an overlord. Shenanigans ensue?
Rating: PG-13? Possible violence and language. Maybe.

Lazeria, a once peaceful barony, is a land under siege by dark forces and hellish magic. The baron, a noble and kind (if somewhat oafish) man named Cliff has been cursed by black magic during a feast. A sorceress appeared and transformed him into a beast-man and the once bright land fell into shadow. The streets darken, strange creatures randomly attack passersby, and the baron himself hasn’t been himself for some time.

Enter two strangers from another land, intent on completing a mysterious quest. A fortuneteller had directed the pair to Lazeria, telling them that if they could defeat the accursed lord of the land that not only would light return, but that wealth and power beyond imagining would be their reward. That draws them in like moths to a flame, and the duo arrives in the dead of night, eager to figure out how best to overthrow Cliff and claim their prize.

His head turns off to the side. He thought he could take care of himself perfectly fine, and who needs money when you just zap someone into a mouse.

"I doubt anything here will suit my needs. I don't want to look like common trash from the street, you know." The waiter comes back with Saori's order and only a partial bit of Vegeta's, setting it down in front of them nervously. Vegeta doesn't so much as blink at the server before he starts digging into his food, ripping through it while still managing to eat it somewhat gracefully.

"Anyway, I've gotten a hold of some of what I need already- we will just have to retrieve only a few items, and then he can kiss his beloved barony goodbye, heheheh."

And that's exactly why she's been traveling with him. A horde of angry magistrates or a pair of cleric knights could deal with him, even if he wouldn't admit it. Shaking her head, she picks up a fork and starts to eat.

"There are a few decent looking tailor shops," she muses between bites as she tries to ignore his somewhat barbaric display. Graceful for him was nothing like the Courts of the Shadowed Jade, and it offended her sensibilities in more ways than she cared to count.

"What items do we need, then? You're going to have to tell me so we can find them."

"There's a special kind of creature rumored to live in this area of the world. The problem is no one has ever produced documentation that the blasted thing exists. It's a vicious creature, and lore says that it mercilessly slaughters its victims, no matter their size. All it craves is the lives of anything that crosses its path. We've got to find one." He shoves some more food in his mouth, swallowing it before continuing on.

"The other is a certain type of...flower." He says hesitantly. "To keep you from stinking up the place."

"Me?" She sniffs disdainfully. "You're the one who doesn't bathe. I've used every stream we've come across since leaving the Courts. But I don't hold it against you, I'm used to the smell by now."

Her eyes dance with delight as she continues to eat, pleased by the fish.

"What kind of creature are we looking for?"

"Enough of your lies. I bathe." He angrily rips a piece of meat off the drumstick he'd been working on, chewing whilst sneering at her. "Perhaps I'll just let that be a surprise when it's chewing on your head."

She smirks and takes another bite, delicately cutting the fish despite the gauntlets. "Chewing on my head, hmm?" She sounds almost bored, completely confident in her monster-slaying skills. "So it has teeth. An improvement over the last thing you needed killed. I hate oozes."

"Neither do I. They're also not worthy of my time or effort to finish off." He finishes off the plate, and moves to the next. Once that's gone, he'll have no more food, and he still hasn't gotten the rest of what he ordered.

Lucky for him the waiter is already bringing the next plates. Clearly, they're used to hungry ~~saiyans~~ mages. She, on the other hand, isn't even halfway through her own.

"Well, lucky for you I'm around then, mmm?"

He sends a one-eyed look over to her during bites. He doesn't think he needs anyone or anything. And she's trying to be cute, but they're in public so he disregards it.

"Lucky? Convenient, perhaps. Now I'd like to retrieve the rest of what we need soon. I want to be ready for when we decide to take care of business."

Amusingly enough, she's not. But if he'd taken the bait she'd have gone along with it.

"Well, hurry up then. You're the slow one here."

"I can't exactly finish my dinner when it hasn't all been served to me, now can I? When you figure out a way to get the food faster, then you can go in the back and make it happen. Until then, you can just sit tight."

As long as he's got a flowing line of food, he's alright- though it is annoying when he has to wait so long. He sort of wishes she'd go back there and give them hell just so he can get the rest of his food.

More plates arrive as he grumps, the rest of what he'd ordered. The menu isn't huge, really. She shakes her head and keeps on eating her fish in silence, smirking around a mouthful as she eats.

He digs into what's left, munching away at his meal. They did get it out to him exceptionally fast, faster than what he's used to. Almost like they're used to someone having an appetite like him! Finishing, he stands up, glancing down at her to see if she was following suit, not caring if she'd finished her own meal or not.

"I'm going. I suggest you keep up."

By the time he's finished, she'd already managed to completely devour her fish, eat a dish of rice, and polish off the drink she'd been given. Some sweet, fizzy liquid that wasn't awful.

"Right," she says standing and dabbing her mouth clean. "Let's go then."

Leading her out of Seventh Heaven, he heads out of town, just on the outskirts before he stops. His hands start to glow blue with magic, waving them until a little ball of light appears- which he stares at for a moment before setting it loose.

"Go."

And it tears off, zipping through the woods and into the night, on its own. Turning, he grins at Saori, like he'd just done something fascinating that she should be in awe of or something similar, whether it was truly breathtaking or not.

"Look, I've gone and done all the hard work for us. You're welcome."

She follows, folding her arms as he casts his spell, expression placid and unimpressed. She'd seen the magical energy, and with a snap of her fingers she calls up a little ring of blue-white light to illuminate the area around them. She knows magic as well, as one of the Storm's Blades, though it's of a more divine origin.

"Good," she nods. "Less work tracking down whatever it is you need. Which was what, again?"

Stiffening at the question, he pauses as he chooses his words carefully.

"The lore itself isn't clear exactly on what this creature is. But..." He clears his throat. He can hardly believe what he's come to theorize what it was.

"I do believe it's some sort of a...

...a monkey."

"A monkey?" She holds back the urge to laugh, and nods seriously (if still almost laughing.

"This great beast is some sort of monkey? Do you have a banana to lure it?"

"Shut up, that's the closest conclusion I could draw from it." He can't imagine a monkey being a problem, a ravenous beast, anything like that at all. It's embarrassing to even think all these stories would point to some primate being able to take out entire villages.

"Whoever passed down the lore just might of been off their rocker. But then- I would enjoy it very much to see a rabid chimp drop out of a tree and give you what for."

"You know that won't happen, Vegeta." She waves him off and takes a step closer to the forest. "A stupid ape isn't going to get the drop on me and you know it. I'd be a terrible watcher if it did."

And just to make sure, she cast out her awareness, feeling for any animal that might come after her or any magic. She knew him, he'd try something.

"Yeah, yeah." He checks in again on his own little scout, hands glowing again as he does so. He's surprised at how far out its gone, a good mile's walk away. But it seems to of found something...

"Hold on, I think we've got our mark. Sooner than I expected. Come on, the sooner we get this over with the better." Taking off, he starts hiking forward, moving quickly. He doesn't want to be out here any longer than he needed to, especially just to kill some animal.

"Well that's good. Your little light trick better work," she grumbles, starting off into the forest. Her hands don't stray too far from her sword, and her eyes move all around.

"Do you know how big it is?"

Ignoring her remark, he keeps his momentum, pushing forward.

"No. I don't know much else other than it's ravenous and supposedly dangerous. I'm sure we're more than enough to handle it." Moving through the woods quickly, he stops up against a tree, checking his tracking magic.

"It's not too far up ahead. Make sure you're ready, Saori."

"I am," she states, hand gripping the hilt of her longsword. The leather strappings inside her gauntlet creak as her fingers click along the cloth-wrapped handle.

"This had better be one powerful ape, to drag me this far out into the forest. If I didn't know better, I'd say you just wanted me alone," she muses darkly.

"Ah-" His face contorts into a look of disgust and embarrassment, silently thankful that it was so dark out so she didn't see his face flush. "Stay focused on what we came out here for, will you?"

Looking back in the direction of where his magic was leading, he moves forward again, only much slower, trying to keep the padding of his feet as silent as possible. They finally reach a small clearing, though he doesn't step into it- instead, he's making sure to hide in the treeline.

"I don't see it, do you? It's supposed to be here..."
