Who: Everyone!
What: First Annual Luceti Tournament
When: May 2nd
Where: Battle Dome
Summary: Peony has made good on his promise to set up a tournament and today is the day for all the action.
Rating: PG-13 for the violence/fighting/possible language.

Finally the promised day has arrived! As competitors and audiences alike gather for the start, the whole outside area draws the eye to the grand carpet and banners with symbols for every event. There is also a table being restocked with free snacks and water bottles for those waiting around or still finding their way. Most notably, though, is a signboard with the times for all the events and competitors.

Whether you're competing or here for the entertainment, however, it's hoped you'll enjoy the events and fight or cheer hard! Now without further ado, make your own threads or comment around and let the games begin...

History... huh? [ He shrugs a bit and folds his arms behind his head ] That's actually always been my worst subject, like if stuff happened in the past I'm not sure I can keep focused on it.
wise_maiden: (there is something curious about this)

[personal profile] wise_maiden 2014-07-25 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I know being a historian isn't meant for everyone. [Alas.] But what do you mean that you can't keep focused on it? You can keep other things clear in your mind, can't you?

I don't mean to diss your passion, Raine-san, but when it comes to something that happened way before I was ever born, there's a part of me which thinks "when did this thing ever matter to me."
wise_maiden: (you've got hungry eyes)

[personal profile] wise_maiden 2014-07-25 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
Well, if you look at it from the perspective that a good majority of any people may take the stance that history can be ignored... the results will follow as well.
generalflirt: (Haa~ah)

[personal profile] generalflirt 2014-07-25 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
That whole "doomed to repeat it" logic?
wise_maiden: (by the lives that i have loved)

[personal profile] wise_maiden 2014-07-25 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
There are certain patterns that resurface time and again no matter what sort of civilization you're looking at. And it's only after, in hindsight, when those connections are made.
generalflirt: (Spinal Tap)

[personal profile] generalflirt 2014-07-25 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
But if the connections only get made in hindsight, doesn't that mean that the past can't predict the future? Because that would mean it provided foresight.
wise_maiden: (somewhere inside my head)

[personal profile] wise_maiden 2014-07-25 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
You're not meant to use it as a prediction. Only... if you see that a situation is circling a certain way, you would be able to look back on the past and try to learn from mistakes made there. The reality is that it's about as idealistic as it sounds. We learn, we adapt, we make mistakes, and then we fall into the same patterns... and yet it doesn't make it less interesting for historians to study.
generalflirt: (Resting in Freedom)

[personal profile] generalflirt 2014-07-25 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[ That still sounds dull to him, to see patterns in something so far outside of your own experience. Or at least, patterns in things which aren't meant to make you emotional evoke to them. A story is meant to create a reaction, the reality of history doesn't have that sort of "taste" to steal Cilan's term to it.

Still. ]

Hmmm. Yeah, I could see it from that angle, Raine-san. Society probably doesn't advance without some attempts at it.
wise_maiden: (lets begin the research)

[personal profile] wise_maiden 2014-07-25 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
It doesn't. And then you also have to consider how much of the larger picture you're able to perceive, from any point of view. If you're striving for a change. Some individuals may just be concerned with living their lives in the moment... unaware of what the wider world could have in store for them. [Her expression changes, as she continues, eyes starting to light up...] And then, to come across the remains of those societies, their lost ways and knowledge ...
generalflirt: (Loyalty's Hand)

[personal profile] generalflirt 2014-07-28 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
Lost ways and knowledge, huh? Like that old Indiana Jones stuff, where they actually knew more than we thought?
wise_maiden: (there is something curious about this)

[personal profile] wise_maiden 2014-07-29 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
[Well, at least she's somewhat heard of Indiana Jones by now to piece together the reference...]

Exactly! Some civilizations could get very advanced before a fall, whether it's because of their advancements or do to an outside force they weren't prepared for.
generalflirt: Modified by <user name="saltprince"> (PM if you want me to take it down) (Okay then dude)

[personal profile] generalflirt 2014-07-30 07:51 am (UTC)(link)
If they were as advanced as say, today, though, how could they have even fallen?
wise_maiden: (i've got the pieces here)

[personal profile] wise_maiden 2014-07-31 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Advancements aren't infallible. There are other aspects that can threaten a society.
generalflirt: (It goes up...!)

[personal profile] generalflirt 2014-08-01 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
So by that logic, society doesn't advance linearly onward? There's pit stops in that "time?"
wise_maiden: (there is something curious about this)

[personal profile] wise_maiden 2014-08-01 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't call them pit stops, but if you take wars into account, or natural decline of resources in that time, there are factors there.
generalflirt: Modified by <user name="saltprince"> (PM if you want me to take it down) (This is my plot face)

[personal profile] generalflirt 2014-08-01 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmm. So you imagine that people are going to dig up computers when they're back in the stone age?
wise_maiden: (listen up and take notes)

[personal profile] wise_maiden 2014-08-01 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
You should never discount possibilities. Besides, we've seen the evidence with magitechnology. Once the mana is gone, the machinery becomes obsolete...
generalflirt: Modified by <user name="saltprince"> (PM if you want me to take it down) (Okay then dude)

[personal profile] generalflirt 2014-08-01 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Hold up, hold up.

[ He holds ups a hand here ]

Magitechnology?
wise_maiden: (a closer look at the situation)

[personal profile] wise_maiden 2014-08-01 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes? [She raises an eyebrow, as if to say did nothing stick with you from classes at all?]
generalflirt: (Amp to Eleven)

[personal profile] generalflirt 2014-08-01 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm... pretty sure that never existed in my world.

[ Yes, yes, he recalls it now, actually. Ancient technology powered by magic stuff ]
wise_maiden: (there is something curious about this)

[personal profile] wise_maiden 2014-08-02 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Other worlds have had some variation, but I don't believe Earth was one of them... [Though there had been Earths with magic and extremely advanced technology to her knowledge...]

In any case, there are ruins from Sylvarant that reflect the high point of society in those times. Although, granted, there were cycles that were dictated, of regeneration and decline.
generalflirt: (Haa~ah)

[personal profile] generalflirt 2014-08-02 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah... yeah, I think I recall that. Cycles based on the rise and fall of that one group of oppressive fellows, and overturned to make it blossom again, right?
wise_maiden: (waiting to change)

[personal profile] wise_maiden 2014-08-02 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
... Something like that, anyway. [ She hadn't made it a point to be too explicit about the details with more than just a few people, given Mithos's presence in the enclosure and her other hangups. ] Granted that world situation is a bit ... unique when compared to the others out there.
generalflirt: (No Trust At All)

[personal profile] generalflirt 2014-08-02 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I mean, they do say that history happens in cycles on Earth, but I can't say that I've ever seen the truth in that.
