The Monster Within

Who: Wan Shi Tong and YOU!
What: Wan Shi Tong returns from his mallynap as a Dark Spirit.
When: Late evening of Sept. 27th
Where: Near the Wind Community Building and the surrounding houses.
Summary: Due to a combination of Vaatu's dark spirit energy and his own anger, Wan Shi Tong dark side has become unbalanced and turned him into a violent Dark Spirit that's attacking the village! 
Rating: V for Vendetta Violence. PG-13ish
(( Threadjacking is encouraged! Also might contain Korra Book 2 Spoilers ))

[Late on the evening of the 27th many of the villagers, who aren't still awake, might find their sleep disturbed by a loud shriek that emanates from one corner of the village. Those living in the Wind Building will hear it most. And if they happen to look out their windows, will see a gigantic spirit owl passing by. 

Wan Shi Tong has returned, but he's clearly not himself. His appearance is very distorted. He's huge, at least twice his normal size, and resembles something more of a feathered dragon than an actual owl. His large wings spread and his neck craned as he lets out another horrific cry of anger. A long tail lashing in irritation. His entire body is a glowing purple color, with the exception of his white face. Large yellow glowing eyes stare at the village with malicious intent. The feathered "horns" on his head are elongated and only add to his terrifying appearance, along with the serrated beak and nightmarishly long talons on his feet. 

He proceeds to stomp through the village, stopping at one house that happens to be unoccupied. One wing plows into the side of it before he then decides to jump on its roof. Beak ripping at the shingles as if ripping flesh. Wan Shi Tong has clearly lost his mind, going on a rampage of sheer anger driven by the darkness he has been tainted with.]

(( OOC NOTE: A resolution has been planned! The Avatars, Aang and Korra, will be the ones to ultimately stop Wan Shi Tong. But feel free to try and fight him or whatever. The only stipulation is that he NOT be killed! ))

[ Really, she should have expected this reaction. As she tries to jump out of the way of the feathers all she can think is that maybe her conflict resolution skills haven't improved as much as she thought after all. She leaps to the side, one of the feathers knocking into her shoulder as she does so. ]

Hey- [ Trying to regain her balance, Korra thinks fast... But the only think she can think is that she needs to get some water, asap. ]

Fine! Fine. You wanna fight the Avatar? Let's go, birdbrain. [ Okay, so it wasn't the smartest plan. She runs backwards a little bit before turning back towards Wan Shi Tong, shooting a few small fireballs at him. ]

THREADSOKKA, because his name isn't Jack.

[Well, thankfully at some point, Sokka did manage to lose this DarkFeathered beast, but he's definitely in rare form tonight. Granted, he's only been attacked once by the pompous bird before, but this... is very much unlike that.

[He hears Korra nearby, and he decides that this isn't going to be a fight they can simply win mano a mano. They're going to need Team Avatar!

[Even if it isn't Sokka's Avatar, there's still an Avatar. And they're a team. WATER TRIBE.

He runs over, boomerang already in the air, going for Wan Shi Tong's head as he runs over to Korra, calling over to her as he does so.]

Korra, I'm with you on this one. I don't know if we'll be able take Wan So Long down alone!

[The fireballs do absolutely no good other than increase his rage. But before he reacts, he notices yet another human arriving.

To Sokka's likely dismay, Wan Shi Tong catches the boomerang in his beak and with one chomp... bends it and spits it back out. How's that for boomerangbending?

Then with a terrible shriek, he rushes at the both of them. And with a sweeping lash of his tail aims to take them both out at once.]

[ For a moment Korra looks relieved to see Sokka. Asami's not around and she's the only member of her "Team Avatar" here, so it was nice to have backup. You know, mix and match, Team Avatar style. She gives him a grin before turning her head sharply towards Wan Shi Tong as he... chomps Sokka's boomerang.

This day just got better and better. ]

Look out! [ She tries to warn, spinning and bending the air around them both to try and rocket them out of the way of the tail. It works (mostly), but Korra finds herself scrambling up from the ground a second later. ]

Sokka! Don't worry. I've got a plan. [ And she tries to sound as confident as she can about it, too. As if to hit that statement home she gestures at Wan Shi Tong again. ]

What, is that all you've got? I thought you knew ten thousand things- is fighting not one of them? [ Sorry Wan Shi Tong- she's got to make sure you keep focused on her. Kicking the ground, she bends up earth in spires around him, more to annoy him than actually hit him. Then, she turns and runs down the street a little, turning a corner. The fountain wasn't that far away... ]

[And then in one tragic moment, everything in Sokka's world felt like it turned to slo-mo. He watched in horror. He couldn't look away. It was the end of the world.]

BOOOOOOOOOOOOMEEEEEERAAAAAAAAANNNNG, NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

[There is so much grief that Sokka barely recognizes that Wan Shi Tong is even attacking them with the shake of his tail feathers. Thankfully for Sokka, Korra has got him covered for the moment, and suddenly he's boosted away, flying through the air, and landing rather unelegantly on his rear.

[Thank the spirits Korra had a plan. Sokka was flat out of them.]

Okay, you do that. I'll try to evacuate the people from here to make sure they don't get hurt.

[And then he'll mourn for Boomerang later.]

[Sorry Sokka... your boomerang will forever be remembered and loved in our hearts and memories.

But right now Wan Shi Tong doesn't give a flip. He probably wouldn't anyway, even if he was in his right mind. That's revenge for knocking him out that one time.

Instead his focus is on Korra, the spirit hissing and growling in rage at her words. Thus he's easily persuaded to follow her. Which he does, the dark spirit flying down the stretch in pursuit of the Avatar.]

[raavatars]

[ She winces at Sokka's mournful cry for his boomerang, but there isn't really time right now for her to dwell on it. There is time for her to yell back ] Alright! Good luck! [ before she continues on her way.

Thankfully she's in luck- Wan Shi Tong has followed her instead of Sokka after all. It doesn't take her long to get to the fountain but she does make sure to turn around and aim a few fireballs at him every now and then to try and keep his interest, because the last thing they needed was for him to decide to go after Sokka instead.

Finally, she reaches it. There's only a split second before Wan Shi Tong will catch up so she tries to take a deep breathe and refocus... Pushing thoughts of fighting out of her mind, she tries to think instead of purifying. Then, she starts the pushing and pulling motions of waterbending, pulling the water from the fountain.

When Wan Shi Tong catches up, she'll send a blast of water right towards him. It's not big and not meant to hurt him (even if it could); she just needs him to be still for a split second so she can start trying to heal him. ]

[The fireballs strike, but merely wash over him and dissipate into nothingness, doing absolutely nothing to the angered spirit. Though it does keep his rage and attention focused on Korra as he charges after her. The bait doing its work as his focus has completely left Sokka as instead pinpointed on the Avatar.

Once he reaches the fountain, he doesn't stop. The only thing that brings him pause is the blast of water that strikes his chest. It pushes him back a little bit, but he only screams his anger at her. However, it does bring a split moment of pause.

An opportunity for Korra if she chooses to take it.]

[ And take it she does.

For a moment her eyes flash with a bright glow, and thens he moves into action. The waterbending motions continue as she pulls the water up into two streams, willing them to spiral around Wan Shi Tong, encircling him. Finally, when the streams meet she makes an upward pulling motion and a golden glow slowly creeps up the vines, seeking to purify him and set him back to his true self. ]

[Finding himself surrounded by water, the spirits watches as the tendrils circle him. The glow starting to creep around him, trying to soothe him. But he will have none of it. With a terrible shriek, Wan Shi Tong's wings flare out, breaking the ropes of water and thwarting Korra's efforts.

He then brings his wings forward, the feathers shooting out at the Avatar like pitch black tentacles. Aiming to impale her, though also spearing the street and the fountain itself.]

YOU WILL NOT DEFEAT ME, HUMAN!

[ Just as Korra's finally thinking she's got this taken care of (thanks, well-placed fountain) Wan Shi Tong tears through the water and goes immediately back on the offensive.

Surprised and still mid-waterbending form Korra's caught surprised and not fast enough to fully avoid the feathers shooting right towards her. Although she manages to avoid being impaled the feather does slash her left arm pretty badly as it goes past, leaving her letting out a cry and staggering back.

No, no, this was supposed to work. Grabbing her left arm with her right for only a moment, she wildly searches for some sort of idea or plan... but that was her plan. Regular attacks weren't working on him, talking wasn't going to work- what choice did she have?

But at Wan Shi Tong's words another's words play through her mind:

"I'm not a regular human anymore." ]

I'm not trying to defeat you! I'm trying to help you!

[knowitowl]

[Wan Shi Tong doesn't seem inclined to listen to reason. With all that has happened, with the darkness twisting his anger and bitterness and making it grow, he doesn't believe her.]

No one helped me then! Your only goal is to control me!

[The dark spirit then screamed his rage and charged at Korra once more. The owl's wings spread wide and sharp talons seeking to grab at her.]

[Aang had been doing his best at playing damage control while following the path of destruction, and now he's finally found the source. It's actually the glowing of the water that first catches his eye. He speeds his approach when he sees Korra being attacked, and then as he nears he uses earthbending to raise a slab of earth in the path of Wan Shi Tong's assault, then he lands by Korra's side.]

Korra! Are you alright? What's going on?!

Aang!

[ Surprised for a moment, Korra turns gratefully towards him, still trying to keep an eye on the angry spirit. ] I'm fine, it's Wan Shi Tong- he's gotten messed up with dark energy. A Dark Spirit. He needs to be purified but it- it didn't work.

[ Not a lot of time right now to be as embarrassed about that as she might have been. ]

[Wan Shi Tong shrieked as the earth suddenly shot up in front of him, only barely managing to come to a hault before he slammed into it. He then turned his glowing gaze on Aang with malice.]

Avatars. Thieves. No friend of the spirits.

[The dark owl spirit shook his head back and forth in agitation and swayed.]

Wan Shi Tong... [He gapes in a mix of shock and fear, seeing the bird changed so much. Then he turns to korra quickly.]

What do you mean... purified?

[raavatars]

[ Korra looks at Wan Shi Tong's swaying with concern, arms still raised in preparation for any attack. But suddenly, realization lights up Korra's face. Sure, maybe she couldn't do this alone... but maybe she didn't have to. She turns back to Aang, speaking fast. ]

It's a type of waterbending; kind of like healing, but spiritual. You surround them with water and focus on healing and purifying and it glows and returns them to their normal form. It's worked before, but... he's too strong.

[ She gives Aang a hopeful look. ]

Will... will you try it with me?

[knowitowl]

[As they continue to talk, Wan Shi Tong only grows more agitated. His sights set on both of the Avatars, he starts to advance, preparing to attack again.]

[He's never heard of such a thing - well he might have heard of airbending spiritual arts but this is so different...

But he sees that owl coming. There's no doubt in his mind. So he delivers a firm nod to Korra.]

Of course. Just walk me through it!

[raavatars]

Thank you, Aang. [ Korra smiles at him gratefully before remembering herself and the situation and looking serious once again. Thankfully Wan Shi Tong hadn't yet come at them again, so she takes this opportunity to turn on the spot towards the spirit and make her move.

Thankfully there's still some water pouring from the fountain, so she first tries to quickly bend some water towards Wan Shi Tong's feet and wings, willing it to harden into ice to try and keep him still in one swift motion. Then she once again starts bending spirals of water around the spirit, hoping that this time it will be enough. ]

Bend the water around him!

[Wan Shi Tong made to lunge at them, but was stopped in his tracks when the water hit his feet and wings, which then turned to ice. He shrieked his rage. The ice broken easily from his wings, but it was a distraction that bought Korra time. For the water started to surround him again. The spirit stiffening as he felt the influence of light tugging at him, but still resisting.]
