In Progress
Who: Lulu && Angeal
What: Are sick. Getting better, though. They just decided to convene to one house so as not to get the mess all over both.
When: Uhm, probably yesterday? Since the sick is supposed to be clearing up today. When they're still sick but a little bit better.
Where: Lulu's house, house 26.
Summary: Well, basically, a while back Lulu offered to keep him company and help him out if he'd like, so hewaddles over to Lulu's house/hut/shack and they chill there?
Rating: No idea how it would get this high, but nothing above PG-13, I can promise that.
This was... new. She fully understood how overused that sentiment was, especially here in Luceti, but... that was the only way she could think to describe it.
And it wasn't the sickness she was referring to. The sickness, however horrible, wasn't exactly new. The new part was the guy sprawled across her couch. Of course, it all made total sense. There was a perfectly logical explanation, but still... She wasn't used to being around people, anymore. It felt strange to realize this, as as long as she'd known, she was around others. Traveling with her various summoners, she was always in some sort of warrior party, as was fitting for a Guardian such as herself. But now... Now it was strange.
Maybe it was because she was sick. That had to be it. She had always hated to be around others while in sickness, because she hated to seem weak. But then again, she had offered to help him, or be company if he desired that. Apparently, and to her surprise, he had. So after a week of laying, hurting, coughing up vital fluids, and trying not to dehydrate and starve, she had to get up and be useful. Oddly enough, Lulu was positive she could manage that.
He'd been there for a few minutes now, just resting. They'd not said a word, yet at least... Lulu didn't blame him, though. She'd nodded to the other couch (having set up camp on one herself, so as to be closer to the kitchen and not to endanger her own bedroom's cleanliness), and he'd laid down. She could tell his pride kept him from fully relaxing, but also that the walk here had taken a toll, and he needed the rest even more than she did. Of course, her own pride prevented relaxation, as well... Though her eyes were closed, she silently regulated her breathing, as one does when trying unusually hard not to cough. For the moment, no real pain to speak of... It always ached some, but by now, Lulu was numb to that.
After those few minutes of silence, however, which were allowed due to his need to recuperate, she knew she had to do something. Were she not under the effects of this horrible virus, she'd have done something from the start. And had she not told him to come if he needed anything?
Biting her lip slightly, Lulu slid her legs over the edge of the couch and sat up, as fluidly as was possible. She was slightly proud of how well it worked, though that was cut short by the stab of pain and dizziness in her head. This was to be expected, though. After all, how long had it been since she'd been upright? If her thirst were any judge, she'd say around 24 hours. But if she was gonna be nearly as useful as she'd offered to be, this was just gonna be the beginning.
Closing her eyes against the pain, she quietly offered, "I'll get some tea," and rose to her feet. Though still dizzy, she forced herself to walk steadily into the kitchen and out of sight. Without her pride, she probably wouldn't have managed it, but she did. A good few minutes later, she was back with a teapot and two cups, which she set on the endtable nearest him so he could reach. Oh boy, as if that wasn't hard enough. Now, to aim the teapot at the teacup. By some miracle, she managed to fill the cups both without spilling, and handed him one, taking the other back to her own couch.

It was now that Lulu realized she was silent again. Perhaps this was why Rikku had once questioned her people skills; what was this, the third time she'd gotten distracted by her thoughts? She brought her attention back to the matter at hand, to what Angeal had said. Yes, apparently they could relate. But there was something about that, about this whole situation, that rubbed on Lulu wrong...
They had quite clearly come to a form of unspoken understanding. Well, now it was spoken, but that was beside the point. She knew... his name. Angeal Hewley. But what else? That must be what was bothering her, how little she really knew about the man occupying her spare couch and drinking her tea. But what could she do? The mage supposed a few well-placed questions wouldn't do any harm...
"Your world... What was it like?" Okay, this was was sheer curiosity. See, Lulu was the way she was, for the most part, because her world was how it was. The fighting, the traveling, and all the other aspects of being a Guardian... Not forgetting, of course, the sheer number of 'facts' that she and her party were living proof were invalid, and the toll that took on her confidence in common knowledge.

Of course, Angeal was always willing to talk about that with anyone who was willing to listen. He'd always been proud of where he came from, and he probably felt that way even more now that he was here. It was interesting, and it made him curious about Lulu's own world as well. To come from two entirely different places and yet have that feeling of understanding, it was almost unreal.
Well, now the only problem here was where to start.
Angeal shifted on the couch again, laying down as he closed his eyes and pictured it.. his world. It had been a while since even he had been able to walk the Planet. He was just getting used to the idea that he could only watch what was happening before he'd been pulled in here. Such timing!
Still, Angeal smiled a bit, thinking back on it. "The Planet was.. huge. Although, for the record, that's coming from a man who was born in a small village where the main attraction were little things called 'Dumbapples'." It made Angeal laugh quietly then, remembering the time he'd told Zack he could never be a first class SOLDIER if he didn't even know what Dumbapples were. And yet, here he was in a place where hardly anyone knew about them. Strange how that would work out. "Banora was just a tiny little village when you compared it to the rest of the Planet, though. Towns and cities, big and small.. there was always something new out there to be found. I had an advantage, being a part of SOLDIER--it was part of my job to travel."
Angeal paused. The more he thought about it, though, the more he wished he'd had just a little more time. He accepted the consequences of the decision he'd made, but that didn't make him miss his life any less.

As he spoke of SOLDIER, though, something about the phrasing confused her. "Being... a part of SOLDIER," she repeated, slowly, to make sure she repeated it as he'd said it. "Perhaps I'm mistaken, but are soldiers not men in combat?"

"ShinRa are the ones in charge of making everything work," Angeal went on, realizing that he'd have to explain who they were, too, for things to make some kind of sense. "They provide the Planet with power and stability. For being as big a world as it was, ShinRa was the one thing everyone had in common." Of course, after everything that had happened, he knew better than that. It was more than just their methods that had become questionable to him. "Everyone has a different opinion of them, however. Some support them, and some are against them. Some don't even care at all. But that's just the way things are, I imagine."
He stopped again, thinking about his home. The last time he'd been there, that was when this whole mess started. "I think.. my home is no more. There are still a lot of things I don't know about what happened to it, actually. But it was a nice little village. I learned a lot growing up there."
Something Angeal lacked were details, but he didn't want to ask Zack. He didn't seem like he wanted to talk about it the last time it was mentioned, and that should have been enough of a sign for him. Part of him felt bad that he couldn't quite explain it to her, though.

As he spoke of his home, Lulu couldn't help but feel sympathetic, despite that the odds were slim to none that either of them would ever return home. To have one's home destroyed... It had been like that for far too many of the people of Spira, what with Sin attacking so frequently. Until Lady Yuna got involved, nothing could be done about the beast... People were forced to watch as their homes and towns were decimated. That was all over now... Spira was at peace, since they had destroyed Sin. At least, Lulu hoped it was.
This thought alarmed her slightly, though she didn't show it on her face. Could there possibly be trouble again so soon? And with her not around to protect Yuna... Heh, funny how that troubled her more than the 'actually being stuck here' part. If Yuna were stuck in Luceti as well, that would suffice. In fact, such was why she had made the trek to the barrier...
She was thinking again. Lulu was careful not to chuckle at herself, for it would be wrong, considering the lastest topic of conversation. But really, what had gotten into her today? Being so absent... Perhaps she had been alone for too long.
"I'm sorry..." She eventually offered, genuinely sympathetic. Then, not quite sure how long it had been since he'd spoken, she tacked on for good measure: "About your home."

"It's.. fine. There wasn't anything I could do," he said, although he strongly doubted that, and it was probably obvious in his voice. If only he hadn't been so confused then, if only he had reacted differently.. He realized, then, that he was actually having a really hard time forgiving himself.
How typical.
"It's.. difficult. I don't know what to think," he said, honestly, closing his eyes again. "I don't want to be here. I'm sure no one does.. but if I wasn't here, I wouldn't be able to talk to him again." Admitting that to someone else, though, was the first time he'd done that since he arrived. Slowly but surely, he was learning to appreciate this place, as odd as that was. "I wouldn't have met you, either. Having been through the whole experiment deal before, it's a little tiring, but I wonder.. maybe being brought here isn't such a bad thing after all..?"
Of course, he hadn't been prepared to let those particular thoughts escape him, and so they probably hadn't made much sense, but he didn't mind too much. He felt that this was someone he could trust, and knowing that, he smiled a little. He let out a laugh, and said, jokingly, "Maybe it's the Malnosso making me think this way?"
no subject
Especially because he called himself. At least, by the sound of it. She heard the difference in his voice, now that he was laying it down straight instead of trying to gloss over it, and made note of said difference. From that, it'd be all that much easier to tell next time he's not quite honest. Not that it was exactly her business, but even Lulu sometimes took measures to satiate curiosities.
She found herself nodding more agreeably this time as he spoke, understanding fully what he meant. She didn't feel it quite so much as he did, as she was certain that he'd been here at least slightly longer than herself, long enough to forge connections with others, but she understood nonetheless. And an amused smile lifted the corners of her mouth at the Malnosso comment, though she didn't laugh. She wasn't quite sure what the Malnosso could or couldn't do, but after the threats they made over the journal system... It was mildly less of a joke to her, now.
She was left wondering a number of things, but the first and foremost of them was, "Who is this 'him' you speak of?" Wouldn't be able to talk to him again, that was what Angeal had said. Thinking back, she was positive she'd not heard a name mentioned...
no subject
Angeal was intent on making some sort of sense, though, even if he was still just as confused as ever. He'd have to start from the top again, wouldn't he? Although, to be fair, these were some of the important details he had left out the first time. He didn't mind talking about it, of course, it was just that nothing made any sense. "Ahh. Back in my world, I was his mentor.. Zack Fair, that is. A good kid, always full of energy. Kind of like a puppy," Angeal said, a bit amused. He had always thought that even if Zack did grow up, he'd still always be a puppy to him. Always. "He wasn't just someone I mentored, though. He was very important to me. But then.."
There it went again. It was that horrible little detail that was making this whole thing into such a mess, he was sure of it. It was that reason that he didn't mind so much being here. At least here he was alive, although considering the situation, he wasn't really sure what he was anymore. Did that.. make him a real monster now?
He was quiet for a minute, and then went on. "There was.. a bit of trouble with some of us SOLDIERs. Experiments-gone-wrong, to sum it up. I was.." A sigh. "I told him that our enemy was that which created suffering. That which creates suffering shouldn't be allowed to exist. It only causes more trouble and problems, especially for the weak and the innocent. So I made him.. destroy me."
That's where it was tough. He had accepted the fact that he died, it was just everything else that he was having problems with.

Without warning, she found herself coughing, and not gently either. Lulu did her best to suppress it, turning her head in the other direction and covering her closed mouth with her sleeve, but she was still sore and winded by the time it was over. Her head throbbed in way that even breathing agitated, and she tasted blood in her mouth, vile as it was.
"So Zack is here?" She asked, though her voice was rough and weak, and she wasn't sure how well she'd be able to focus on the answer, with her head in this shape. Really, she shouldn't have said anything at all, but had she not continued the conversation, that would have been an open invitation to worry.
no subject
"Yes, Zack's here. He's been here a lot longer than I have, apparently," Angeal said. Now this was one he did try to venture into, but unfortunately, didn't get very far. There were a lot of things Zack didn't seem to want to talk about, and though Angeal was curious, he knew he had no choice but to find out these things for himself. (Or, at least, get to Zack when he was feeling more vulnerable.) "That's.. why, in a way, being here isn't the worst thing that's ever happened to me. It's a bit difficult to talk to people through the Lifestream, you know," he said, another feeble attempt at humor. Then, remembering that he had to explain that one previously to someone else--"The Lifestream is the essence of the Planet. When a person dies, their energy is sent back to the Planet. All of their memories, emotions, and knowledge return to the Planet, and it's said that this is what keeps it going. That's.. where I was, before I came here. There was nothing I could do but watch."
And those last few thoughts were the only things he could be sure of. Things had made very little sense before he arrived in Luceti, but from the Lifestream, there was at least a possibility that he could find out. Now, he wasn't too sure how that would work out.
Angeal sat up a bit on the couch again. "My story is.. something of a mess, to put it nicely. I don't regret my decision, but there are some things that just don't sit well with me," he admitted to her, and went quiet again. To be able to talk to her did help in some ways, but only made him more confused in others. Though, it wasn't fair, was it? To tell her these sorts of things, considering the state they were in. Perhaps she had a different kind of story to tell?
"And.. what about you? If you're well enough to talk about it, I'm well enough to listen."
no subject
He seemed all too ready to change the subject, so she didn't object. He'd already told her far more than he'd been obligated to tell her, if he were even obligated at all... And under the surface, she got the feeling that their words were far more similar than she'd initially thought.
But how to answer him? Spira was a vast and varied place... "I am well enough, of course. There is so much I could tell... What is it you wish to know?"
no subject
Of course, he wasn't quite sure where to start, either. There were just so many things you could ask about a world unknown to you. How were they different, or how were they the same? But to ask something like that would be silly--how would she know if something from her own world was anything like his? His explanation probably hadn't been the best to begin with.
Well, the thing Angeal had known best outside of his life in SOLDIER had been his home in Banora. As a first class, he'd been sent everywhere, and had the chance to see many things, though Banora had always been home. Maybe that would be a good place to start? "Is there a place that you could call home? What was it like?" he asked, curiously. Perhaps that, too, had been vague, but he didn't know where to start. It was still strange to think just how a world could function without mako, or any of the other things he already had to explain to people. He had so many questions, because this whole thing really was rather fascinating, but he stayed quiet after he'd ask anyway. Despite the fact that she seemed content to listen, it was about time he'd given her a chance to speak, right?
no subject
The question that he decided on was basic, but required a lengthy enough answer to keep her talking for at least a little while.
"I grew up in a village called Besaid. It was small, compared to the rest of Spira. It was also quite basic, whereas some of the more central cities were rather thoroughly developed, in both technology and architecture. Besaid was... cozy, I suppose you could say. It was rather tight-knit, as there were few enough residents that one could easily know all of the other villagers. I was born there, but only lived there until I was fifteen." She paused, thoughtful. "I am uncertain, though, of whether or not I call it 'home'. One accustomed to travel learns better than to grow too attached."
no subject
So, she was something of a traveler, too? He knew what it was like to leave home at such a young age--it almost seemed like forever ago when he and Genesis had decided on joining SOLDIER together. Angeal had never become so attached to his home that he didn't want to leave it. In fact, he was eager to be able to adventure and try out something new--there was always something new to see and learn about, right? But the fact was that home would always be home. That's what made it so hard.
"Hm.." Angeal paused, although he hardly had to think about what his next question would be. He wanted to say more, but it was probably for the best that he took it easy now. "Fascinated by travel as well? Or was it something else?"
no subject
"I've nothing against travel, but such was not why I did so. It was required of me, of any in my occupation."
no subject
He had suspected it had something to do with her job, considering she said she left her village at such a young age. For Angeal, though, it had become something of a hobby, even if it was work that made him travel. It reminded him, then, what he'd give to have his camera again--that was a favorite thing of his to do on missions when he had free time. The scenery here, he had to admit, was quite nice, but was there really any point to it? If he did manage to leave this place, it wasn't like he could take it with him. Material objects hardly mattered much anymore.
At the same time, though, he couldn't help wondering just what it was that she did. This wasn't one he could guess just from listening to her speak, for some reason. "Then.. what exactly was your occupation?" he asked, putting a hand to his head and remembering that awful fever he had. That troublesome thing just wouldn't go away, would it?
no subject
"I am a Guardian." She'd slipped into present tense, but only partially realized it, already readying herself to explain what exactly that was. "When the world was plagued by the the massive beast of pain and destruction called Sin, it was a Summoner's job to travel from temple to temple and gain more and more power and knowledge until they were strong enough to defeat Sin. Guardians traveled alongside them, protected them."
no subject
Angeal was especially curious now. It sounded to him like there was much more going on here than he knew about. This 'Sin' she spoke of.. it sounded monstrous. Had their been anything like that in his world? Not that he knew of, but if Genesis were allowed to have his way..
He shook off that thought quickly, though. He shouldn't think about what would be going on in his world right now. It was simply something that couldn't be helped, so thinking about it would be pointless. And yet..
"That doesn't sound like a very easy job," Angeal said, although somehow, he wasn't surprised to learn that this was what she did. Somehow, it almost seemed like it suited her perfectly. But what did he really know about that? His world didn't have things like this, as far as he knew.
There were still things about this that he didn't understand.
"Guardians.." he repeated. "So, there were more people like you? I'm going to assume, then, that this monster you were fighting was not one to give up so easily?"
no subject
...No. That was one thing Lulu refused to do, was to be put on the defensive front by mere memories. Bringing her gaze back up to meet his, she nodded at his assumption.
"That is correct," the mage confirmed, forming some semblance of a suitable answer. "There were many of us. Lady Yuna had six, counting myself, though two were more for moral support than for genuine protection. And Sin... It was defeated exactly six times in history. But each time, after a time of peace, it would return. It was... quite massive, to say the least."
no subject
"It does sound that way," Angeal said, nodding slightly. It was still a troubling thought, though, that something like that could exist. "Does Sin have.. some sort or purpose? For it to return so often, there must have been something it was after, I imagine."
And he stopped before he could say anything else, the dryness in his throat getting a bit worse as he went on. "If I may," he said, a bit suddenly. "Something to drink..?"
no subject
"It was... retribution. For the evils of Spira." That was the simplest way she could think to describe it. A painful cough. Then, quieter: "If a Summoner made it that far, they would banish Sin from the world, but they themself would be the payment, so to speak. In exchange for an era of peace, the Summoner would sacrifice their own life to become Sin, the next time the beast would return."
That was more than she'd intended to say, but what harm would it do? He wasn't the sort to take it an use it against her, or anything of that variety. At his second words, she nodded at once, glancing around to catch sight of the teapot on a nearby table. Drawing a breath and bracing herself, she pushed herself into an upright position. As she was rising to her feet, however, her body decided this was the perfect time to cough. A lot. And the forward motion of the cough, coupled with the fact that she was now trying to stand, brought on a whole new wave of dizziness and migraine, which stuck around even when the coughing was gone.
Lulu closed her eyes, but she could almost still feel the room spinning. At least her head hurt moderately less this way. "I'll get you some more tea," she offered, almost more to herself than to Angeal. Mentally, she was commanding her body to cooperate, if only for the sake of her pride. Fortunately, though she still felt slightly tipsy, most of the dizziness cleared up and she could remove her hand from its anchor on the arm of the couch.
Stepping over (carefully, but not noticeably so), she reclaimed the teapot, then stepped over to fill his cup. Bu some stroke of luck, the tea actually went into the cup, and she set the pot on the end table within his reach and went to lay back down without much further issue.
no subject
That was all Angeal could really muster up, because such a thing was just so strange to him. It wasn't really that it didn't make sense, because it did, it was just.. incredible. Things seemed to be much more difficult where she came from, and yet, the way she handled it all just seemed so calm. Perhaps, though, that was the only real way one could deal with things like that. Anything else wouldn't be acceptable--that was something he understood well, at least.
Angeal closed his eyes when Lulu got up to get him more to drink. He felt bad. No, horrible for making her have to do these things for him. It wasn't right, considering she was suffering just as much as he was. He'd make sure to pay her back, though. Even if it wasn't now, he couldn't just ignore the deeds she was doing for him.
He immediately reached for the cup now that it was filled again and took a sip. He felt a lot better after drinking again, that was for sure. "Sorry for the trouble," he said, and added afterward, with a bit of a smile--"Thank you."
After she was settled in again, he returned back to the topic at hand. "And, so.. What of your Summoner?" he asked. Of course, that was probably more of a 'What happened before you arrived here?' kind of question, since dedication to the Summoner seemed to be the most important thing for Lulu, from the sounds of it.
no subject
Now, he returned their attention to the conversation. "My most recent Summoner was Lady Yuna. She was quite young as well, but did her duty more bravely and maturely than most grown women or even grown men." Now Lulu realized the contradiction. "She survived the defeat of Sin, Rikku and Tidus made certain of it. It was... different, this time. We did not follow the preset path of a Summoner, but rather, forged her own. I doubt Sin will return, this time, as there was no further life sacrificed in its name."
