But the relief from the persistent bouts of vertigo that had plagued him during the thunderstorm was such that he allowed his innate curiosity to win. During the first two days he had kept himself mostly in the Battle Dome or by Ariadelle's side, mostly as a safety measure. He didn't want to fall too hard and not have someone there. The abating weather allowed him to focus, and he realized that he had no problems stumbling if he paid attention and didn't get distracted.

Though watchful, he wanted to explore.

He found the tall, thin man in the plaza by the fountain conducting what he assumed was a performance--and failing. After the third try Lupin wrote a note in his portable pad, tore it off, wadded it into a ball, and threw it at the man.]
