EVENT LOG - Amnesia

Who: Us!
What: We're, um. I forgot.
When: Now-ish? It ends October 1st, I'm sure of it.
Where: Well, everywhere seems nice.
Summary: Well, I woke up and I don't remember a thing. Oh, wait, this flashcard says, "Post a log".
Rating: I can't remember

Greetings, your name is LUCETI MOD. It seems you've lost your memory. Here's some facts about yourself:

1. You need to post a log about an Amnesia Event.
2. You should link to all the flash cards.
3. Remind people to tag the log like so: [canon] character name
4. Remember to tell them to have fun. Apparently that's a thing?

Hopefully this is all just temporary. Be careful who you trust out there. People may claim to know everything, but you know what they say: Trust half of what you read and none of what you hear. Good luck!

[It was a Shift.

It was a Shift and he was starting to remember the truth, but it was still spotty for the Thief. While his belongings in the workshop in the woods behind Community House 5 triggered a flood of emotions, impressions, and memories...it didn't awaken everything. He only knew the details that were important, and only if they were important to him.

Lupin didn't recognize the man reading at the Fountain when he took a seat on the edge of its basin. His focus was on his job, his Shift-induced muteness, and the fatigue that was starting to catch up to him after a week of running around. Regardless of the consequences, he would do as Law ordered: 'pace himself.'

He lit up a cigarette--the first in two weeks--

And blew a smoke ring. He kept his concentration on the half remembered teachings from Kipinn to keep the delicate circle away from his companion, but couldn't resist a smirk.

Smoke really did make it easier.]

[Loki glanced up, looking at the smoke curiously. The smell didn't bother him as such, and he had no plans to protest.]

Is there something with which you require help?

[Lupin glanced at the stranger through another plume of smoke and shook his head in reply. He was just at the fountain to relax, like his neighbor was doing.

He pulled out his steadily dwindling notepad to write a note for the stranger.]

A bit of that myself. It's making this research a bit more comfortable.

[He holds up his book to reveal it's about... neurology?

He sighs.]

I definitely do not care for this topic as much as I do maths. But 'tis a lovely day.

[Shifted.

Lupin furrowed his brows when he understood why this man chose neurology over maths. In light of the recent Shift, anyone who was the thinking type would start to gather information. That was always Lupin's tactic, and it remained even while amnesiac.

His realm was less of the biological and more of the historical. Medical details were secondary when compared to assessing the current situation. He shifted closer and dashed off another note:]

any luck?

'tis a slow process, I'm afraid. I... think that there is little I can do until I understand the basic nature of a thing. Thus, if I wish to have any chance at affecting memory, I must thoroughly understand the way the brain and mind works.

[He thumps the book with his fingers, frustrated.]

Only there's so much... if and it's all very messy and biological.

[Lupin nodded sympathetically--it was that feeling of uselessness that drove him to reckless actions and decisions, that led him to take on a suicide mission back in June and fail to return with the others. He sighed deeply and wavered on revealing what he knew. It might be disastrous for this man, like it was for Spock.

As far as he was aware, this man was not a contact telepath.

He took more time on his next note, so that his writing would be clear and his style concise.]

This is a Shift. It's an experiment conducted by the Malnosso, and nothing we do on the inside can affect it. They are a corporation that functions equally as our caretakers and prison guards. We're kept safe because of them, but our lives are chaotic for the same reason.

[Loki reads over the note, looking thoughtful.]

I'd heard of the Malnosso now. However - and it may well be my current lack of experience that speaks, but so be it - no trap nor prison nor attack is perfect, not when it's been created by something so fallible as people. [There is an odd sort of conviction in his tone as he says this; it's something he knows in his bones.]

The issue is not that there is no solution. It's that the solution has yet to be found.

[He had a point, but even so...]

People have been here for years and have found no way to stop it. I've been here for almost a year, with the same goal, and have not found an answer.

I found my belongings. Souvenirs. They helped me remember important details.

This will only last a few more days. Shifts last a week on average. You will have your memories back soon.

It took over 350 years for a proof to be created for Fermat's last theorem. [That's a thing he read yesterday, so he feels good about using that as an example.]

No solution yet, my friend.

[He nods.] I... hope that is the case. This has left many people greatly disturbed. But I do not think it is in my nature to sit idly by. [He smiles wryly.

The problem is, if this will truly be over in less than a week... he's not looking forward to it. Not knowing what it seems he might be heading toward. But this man doesn't need to be burdened with that.]

[350 years...]

we don't have that time. only a life, even if that life can be revived while in this world--for a price.

minds and memories are funny. they are easily rewritten in general, and it is easy to become a person that you are not. don't worry over the details for now. just learn who you are.

sometimes its better to have some memories removed if it improves quality of life.

I only used it as an example. A reason to not give up on searching for a solution.

[He tilts his head, frowning at the other part of the message.]

Is there something you know of me?

... you're not the first person to say such things.
redjacketthief: (thoughtful)

[Lupin watched him thoughtfully for a moment before he quickly shook his head. There was nothing among his souvenirs that gave him any clue about who this man was--or anything recent. He just had information, and memories from his world.

There was no way for him to simply explain those strange days when his girlfriend, Fujiko, had willfully suppressed all of her memories to protect a government secret, nor those terrifying occasions where Goemon had lost his ability to differentiate between friend and foe. Drew, the lovely scientist who tricked him a few years back, was a similar case; Lupin's own short term memory was made a jumbled mess, and Drew had forgotten the entirety of the recent years of her life upon the job's resolution.

Another note was dashed out with a heavy sigh:]

no. experience.

[He held up a finger-wait--while he pulled out the well-worn note card that he had been using since the beginning of this Shift as an easier means of communication. It contained sensitive information, but he didn't care at this point.

Too many people had seen the card without context. There was enough evidence to support the truth. Beside that, it was data for the stranger to use for further benefit.]

Greetings, your name is Arsene Lupin III. It seems you've lost your memory. Here's some facts about yourself:

1. You're the World's Greatest Thief.
2. You recently died in an effort to protect someone you don't know or even like, and you would do it again.
3. You're a regular volunteer in the Battle Dome. Pay attention to your coworkers.
4. There is nothing in or around Community House 5 for you. Don't bother going.

Hopefully this is all just temporary. Be careful who you trust out there. People may claim to know everything, but you know what they say: Trust half of what you read and none of what you hear. Good luck!

1.true
2.true <-- In June. I was helping protect one of the Malnosso.

^ There is a price for being revived here. A loss. Part of my balance is crippled. Muteness is an unrelated Shift.
[There is a series of scribbles here--jagged, heavy marks that have been repeatedly gone over in graphite. The information was unnecessary for most people to read.]

-these are similar shift influences. The price paid is idiopathic and cannot be ‘cured’ until November. The muteness will remain until they see fit.

I understand not sitting still, but here are facts.

he was valuable to us as a pawn, and we were given an ultimatum. captives seize whatever power that they are given, and we weren't going to give him up.

[But the price, while interesting, was something that he had to deal with daily. He didn't mind sharing information, but he didn't want to become an example for the man's maths.]
