[Vastra also heard and heeded the warnings that something peculiar could happen on Valentine's Day, and in general she isn't pleased at all. Even in her time, Valentine's Day is a day for expressing love, and clearly the one she loves... isn't there. So on the day proper, she waited and peered out her window curiously. Nothing seemed to be happening, and so she stayed in and wrote. What an awful lot of fuss for nothing at all. She certainly didn't feel any different...]

[Later on, she decides that staying in all day Valentine's Day hadn't done her any good, and that a night away from cooking her own meals and being social could help. So she walks over to Good Spirits for dinner and spots Natasha looking much the same. Perhaps there were, admittedly, a few more couples seated around the establishment--however Vastra attributes this to the season. She makes her way over to Natasha, smiling.]

If I were to ask to join you, would I be imposing on an impending meeting?

[Natasha glances up at the voice and immediately breaks into a bright smile, motioning to the empty seat across from her in invitation.]

You wouldn't be imposing at all, Vastra. Please, have a seat. Honestly, I'd be grateful for the company. I haven't seen you around much this week.

Yes, well... [She tilts her head slightly in acknowledgment as she slides into the chair.] I suppose I wasn't exactly certain what might happen on Valentine's Day. Though perhaps it was simply a false alarm.

I wasn't completely certain myself. Although things have been a little.... strange this week. [Natasha chooses her words carefully, because it hasn't been overt enough that its made her suspicious - which, if she'd been in her right mind, should have been suspicious in itself. Still, the tumult her emotions have been in all week have certainly been different at the very least.]

Have they? [Vastra raises her eyebrows slightly.] I haven't noticed anything entirely out of the ordinary. Perhaps a few more couples...

That's partly it in itself. People are certainly seeming more... interested. [For lack of a better word.] If I didn't know any better I'd say love was in the air. Or at the very least attractions.

[She'd felt the pull several times herself. Sometimes more than others. Even now, sitting here, she could feel tiny flutters in her stomach at sharing a table with Vastra, excitement and anticipation at being in the woman's company.]

It is the season for it. Young people seem more inclined to let their feelings out on a designated day. As a sort of deadline or good shove into the admission of affection. But I doubt many of them have considered the long term. People do tend to look very attractive from far away, and less so when secrets begin to leak.

[Vastra smiles briefly as her usual tea arrives at the table.] I would agree with you. Attraction is in the air, not necessarily love. [Love is a very sacred thing.]

You don't think it could be both floating around?

[Natasha's not so sure that's the explanation for it, but she's got nothing better to go on at the moment, either.

...Although she keeps telling herself that attraction is the much safer of the two options, so she hopes that's all it is. Maybe by Valentine's she'll have convinced herself.]

[Vastra raises her eyebrows in consideration and looks around the restaurant at the doting couples.] Well, anything is possible, I suppose. True love could result from the day. As impetus to finally recognize feelings that have been building for some time.

[widows_kiss]

[Natasha gives a wry laugh at that, glancing down at her drink again, and there's something distracted momentarily in her gaze, a distant wistfulness that she quickly pushes away..]

Maybe. The rest, though... [She trails off for a moment, letting her gaze drift over the couples around them.] I'm too cynical to appreciate this holiday, I think.

[Vastra takes a look at the couples around them as well, then manages to focus on pouring her tea.]

You have never been in love then. Or someone hurt you.

[Vastra gets a vague smile for that deduction and one shoulder lifting in a shrug.] Am I not allowed to just be cynical?
