TERRACE Draft - Remaining Days

This post covers the second to sixth day! Be sure to check the info post on the timeline to know what's up. At 2AM on the 27th, the attack will break out while most people are sleeping. Be sure to use the above info post for any plotting needs you might have. Enjoy!

[The armored car was a something that Cliff had already taken note of as he punched out one enemy after another, but he barely paid any attention to it. His concentration was entirely on his surroundings, taking note of where the enemies and potential obstacles were at all times so he could avoid hits and deliver maximum damage. However, the sheer numbers were liable to overwhelm him at some point if he wasn't careful.

It was why he immediately grabbed hold of the side of the Jeep and leapt in at the offer, grinning all the while.]

Whadya need, kid? [He laughed, clearly in his element out here in this mess.] This is one sweet ride!

[He slammed on the gas pedal once Cliff got in. Looking back over at the man he started driving in the other direction.]

Got some cultists trying to round people up. Gonna need some help if we want to stop 'em. Think you're up for it?

[While he sounds focused on the task at hand, he's noticeably shaking. Unlike Cliff, a warzone wasn't something the boy was familiar with.]

Am I up for it? [He grinned. Take a wild guess, kid.

Cliff was riding high on adrenaline and his own confidence, and he planned to keep the mood going throughout. Cross' distress was far more notable than he realized...and Cliff had seen this coming from the outset.

He reached over and patted the kid on the shoulder.]

Just keep your hands steady and your eyes on the road. I can take the worst of it.

[The response is enough to make Cross keep driving forward. He's focused on the road. It's enough to keep his mind off it. When Cliff pats him on the shoulder he glances back.

The reassurance is enough to keep him going. When Cross recognizes the location that he saw the cultists rounding people he slows their advancement and stops behind an alley.]

They're out behind this corner, can you hear them?

[The sounds of rabble and yelling can be heard as the cultists make their demands for people to get in a line.]

Think we should charge out there in this?

Can I hear 'em? [Cliff snorted in wry amusement.] How can't I?

[He grinned wildly-- this was a brilliant plan.]

Ram it. We'll jump, take 'em out, and get the people outta there!

Alright, on it.

[He throws the stick back into drive and slams onto the gas. Soon they pelt right out from behind the corner. The cultists don't have much time to react when Cross drives into one of the bigger one's sending them flying over the car.

It's a mad scatter as the cultists try and collect themselves and their hostages soon run loose. ]

Niiiice work, kid!

[With that Cliff used the momentum of the careening vehicle to launch himself into the mob, taking on the cultists without a shred of remorse. He didn't bother with the scanners that were provided by the MSF, preferring instead to knock heads and break wings. The livelihood of their enemies wasn't a concern to him. Let the Malnosso clean up the mess later; the hostages were his priority, and aggressive negotiations were on the table for that day.]

[Halting the car to a stop. Cross leaps out to go join in the fighting. Drawing out his sword the moment a cultist comes at him with a blade, he blows the blow and delivers a kick to the cultist's stomach. When he's knocked over, Cross stabs the sword into the cultist's knee. That guy wouldn't be moving but he wouldn't die either.

Cross pulls his sword out and soon rushes to join Cliff.]

[Cliff threw a swooping roundhouse at a nearby cultist and, taking advantage of the lapse in guard, plowed in with an uppercut that knocked them down for the moment. He threw Cross a grin when he joined up, and took a beat to take note of the kid's handiwork.]

Well, well. Don't you like to play nice.

[Because, clearly, a sword through the knee was nice.]

They're stronger than normal humans, right? A stab through the knee isn't gonna kill him. It'll just keep him out of the fight.

[Obvious enough, Cross is just going for non lethal combat. When a cultist comes at him again with a sword he knocks it away with his own and just punches them in the face with his metal fist.]

Right. Play nice.

[Cliff laughed at the joke that was obviously all his own as he punted the cultist that he had previously knocked down. They was thrown backward into their companions, slowing them down, and Cliff used it as an opportunity to lash out at another with a heavy blow.]

Is that supposed to be a joke? Really?!

[Now of all times was not a time to joke. He pulls out his taser, soon shocking one of the cultist's in the wing and then sweeping the cultist's legs out from under him.]

Yep.

[Now was the perfect time to joke around in Cliff's mind. It kept people from getting too tense-- and being relaxed was the best way to roll with the punches. Cliff planted a sidekick at the same Cultist that Cross unbalanced, catching them mid fall and throwing them out of the immediate melee.]

Watch your back. There's more incoming.

[To Cross it was the exact opposite. Any distraction could get them killed. He needed to stay on his toes.

When Cliff sends the Cultist flying, Cross turns to the cultists coming from behind. There a lot. But, he's got something to give them the edge.]

Shut your eyes, Cliff.

[Pulling out a flash grenade from his belt, he hits the trigger and throws it towards the cultists. The grenade explodes out with a blinding light leaving the cultists yelling incoherently as they are blinded by the flash.]

Right!

[He only had a second to turn and shut his eyes, but that was all the time he needed. The flashbang was a brilliant idea, and Cliff had already been kicking himself for not making a few bombs himself. He didn't even have a true workshop yet, but that was a project for another time.

Cliff glanced back at the mob as soon as the light faded.]

Hey, Cross. [He jerked a thumb over his shoulder.] Let's get outta here.

[It looked like the hostages were cleared out, but looking back to the enemy. Could they really let these guys just wander?]

What about them? They'll round up more people if we leave!

[A look.]

You wanna take on that many? Be my guest. I dunno 'bout you, but I've learned to pick my battles.

[He looks back between Cliff and then the cultists. What should he do? About now it looked like their hostages were gone, but it wouldn't stop them from getting more later.

But, Cliff had a point. There were too many and he's not sure he could do this even with a partner. For once he's given a scenario he's not sure there's any compromise to. And the indecision just makes him freeze.]

[Cliff groaned at Cross's indecision. He had a hunch that something like this would happen. The kid was simply too inexperienced, too optimistic, and too naive to be an effective soldier. Cross had good spirit, but spirit wouldn't take you far in war.

He gave no time to debate-- he grabbed Cross's wrist.]

C'mon, keep with it. Let's go!

[Cross is broken from his indecision when his wrist is grabbed by Cliff.]

H-huh, wait what!?

[He didn't realize his decision was being made for him now.]

We're gettin' you outta here!

[He had the chance to. It wasn't one that he was going to miss.]

[Cross would try to pull away, but the man's got more strength than this kid so he is being pulled like a rag doll here.]

[You bet he did. Cliff didn't let go of Cross as he guided them into an alley.]

Keep your head together. This ain't the time.
