Day 4

[ Day five spoilers are right, healing magic is awesome.

Despite chances being that Yun promised someone, somewhere, that she wouldn't go into the more combat heavy areas of TERRACE, she had added her usual caveat of 'unless something really bad happens'. Now anyone else might assume that meant something bad happening to the secured zones, but no, that really wasn't it. She tends to know when bad things happen elsewhere, which, in her mind, counts and so it is that Layton will soon find himself not alone once more. No droids this time, thankfully. Just a random girl running around alone. ]

Hold on, Professor.

[ She doesn't say that until she's already kneeling down by him and not loudly, not wanting to draw any attention back to them in case a droid or cultist is in hearing range. ]

This should only take a moment.

[reminded]

[His consciousness flutters. Someone is saying something. He cracks open an eye to see but sees very little he can understand, so he closes it again before long. There isn't enough strength left in him to respond beyond that.]

[ And it does only take a moment, the magic working fast. Yun holds her hand out over him, the water rune symbol where it had been attached glowing briefly when called upon. Blue light might fill his vision for a second or two, a lingering smell of rain may remain, but otherwise there's no obvious indication that magic is being used.

It won't fix everything right away, but it will target the worst of it and heal enough to keep him from death's door. Cracked, broken bones knit, bleeding creeps to a stop, the rune magic does its best to put what's left back in order.

Then the spell fades and Yun is left to give Layton a gentle shake from his shoulder, seeing if he's managed to stay awake. ]

Professor?

[reminded]

Oh...

[Sensation flows back into him, and with it a deep soreness of the body. He winces at a lingering ache in his head, and as his eyes open once again, they follow the hand on his shoulder up to the voice addressing him.]

Yun? [His voice comes out in a rasp. Memories of what happened flood back. He painfully raises himself on an elbow, his hat falling off as he holds a hand to his temple. The droids... where did they go? How long had he been unconscious?]

What are you doing here? It's too dangerous.

[ He is awake. Good. Yun breathes out, relaxing now that she knows the magic took hold. ]

Said the man who was dying to the healer. [ She sounds amused by that, which helps cover any nervousness she might have had. As certain as she is of some things, dealing with such injuries is still daunting. ] I know it is, but you should be more worried about yourself right now.

[reminded]

[He looks at her for a moment before chuckling under his breath.] I suppose I deserved that.

[He tenderly turns to sit up, automatically reaching for his hat once he gets there. It feels like he was hit by a car, but only by a gently cruising sedan instead of an overloaded truck with its brakes cut.] Thank you. I owe you my life.

Sorry, I don't collect lives.

[ A cheerful little joke in the middle of a war zone. It probably isn't so far out of place, since there always is one or two people who will keep on like that. That said, she rises back to her feet and offers him a hand up. ]

Can you get up? If not, I can try and heal the rest, but we should really get moving.

[reminded]

[Despite the ache in his bones, he smiles at the jest. At least she didn't ask for extra credit instead. He dons his hat and takes her hand, rising readily enough to his feet. The soreness is easier when he's in motion.]

I'll be all right. Let's be on our way. Towards camp, I presume?

[ She nods. ]

Though not directly. We can't go back the same way I got here, I'm afraid.

[ In that direction lies more danger, so she'll need to work out a whole new path. At least she already knows which way they can take from here and she turns to start walking that way, which looks to be leading even further away from the base camp. ]

[reminded]

[It takes a second for him to realize that she's walking and intends to keep walking that way, and he strides to catch up with her. She seems very certain of herself. Still, should he be worried about what's between them and camp right now...?

He'll try this again in a way that hopefully won't earn him more sick fires.] What brought you all the way out here? I don't want to blow you off course.

[ He might want to worry about what's between them and the camp, but she has no intention on leading him into yet another ambush. If she has the chance to warn someone else about the band of foot soldiers that had been that way, she will, but until then... ]

Hmm? Oh, don't worry about that, really. I already finished what I came out here to do. [ It might seem like she's being willfully obtuse here, which would actually be a very correct assumption. ] Besides, I'm a part of the medical team. I'm sure stopping to help you is part of the job.

[reminded]

I suppose you're right there. [Technically he was supposed to be acting as medical support as well. Good lot that did him. He scans the area warily as they move along.]

You must have a good eye. [Almost as good as her timing.] Even I might have given myself up for dead when you found me.

A good eye? [ She gives a light laugh. ] Something like that, yes.

[ And then she grows a little more serious. ]

You almost were. Thankfully rune magic is fairly good at pulling people back together quickly.

[reminded]

Thankfully. [He frowns as something occurs to him.] Yun, if I may ask for one more favor?

Hmm? [ One more favor? She slows down a bit and looks up at him, curious. ] What is it?

[reminded]

[He looks a bit regretful, as if breaking an unspoken rule.]

I would appreciate it if you kept mum about this, especially around Luke. Triton, I should say. It would only upset him.

[tolivefortoday]

That's all? [ She must have expected something much more dire, sine a grin breaks across Yun's face and she laughs a quiet little laugh. ] Of course. I won't say a thing, I promise.

[reminded]

... Thank you. [Though he can't help but look at her questioningly. What's so funny?]

[ Oh, she notices that look. It only makes her laugh again. ]

Hehe, sorry, it's just I always expect something worse than not telling someone something when asked that.

[At least someone's enjoying this.]

A common question for you, then? I know it sounds a bit silly, but he really would be quite angry with me.

Sometimes. Oh, no, it's not too silly. You just don't want him to be upset and that makes sense just fine.

Ha ha. I lecture him all too often, yet it seems I'll go through some pains to avoid a lecture from him in turn. I'm afraid I'm not being a very good role model at the moment.
