Summary: When Gai discovers that Specialist Davis himself is paying a visit to the village, he decides it's time to discuss a few things with several people.
Rating: Shouldn't be more than PG-13 at most.

[It didn't take long for word of Specialist Davis and Carol being in Luceti to reach Gai, given how nosy he is about the goings-on in the village. He's not entirely surprised; Davis does seem to have almost a personal stake in this enclosure given some of the things he's said and done before, but at the same time the fact that he's here (and injured, to boot) sets off a few alarm bells in Gai's mind given what he's learned about the man from Law.

He isn't going to approach them, not yet. Instead, he just tails them quietly for a while, observing what they're up to, noting the distance that they keep between them. They seem calm rather than in a hurry, almost as if they're just killing time. Perhaps they are. When a half-hour or so of following them around doesn't net any results, Gai decides that it's time to go drop in on someone who might have more of an idea as to what is currently going on.

It's only a matter of fifteen minutes or so after that before he's knocking on the door to House 22, hoping that Law isn't off on a shift at the clinic right now.]

[It is after this, Law opens the door. He's been home for a little while now and not working at all like he intended.

Instead he's been stewing. And cooking - Itachi and him were going to have lunch. But mostly stewing, thinking over things.]

Oi, Gai.

[He opens the door wider.]

Caught the grapevine yet?

[Well, that makes things easier. Not that he's surprised that Law already knows; he's known the man long enough to know just how sharp and tuned into things Law is.

The fact that he's looking to be in pretty good shape today should make it clear this is no house call on Gai's end.]

So you already know why I'm here.

[deathsdoctor]

Mmmhmm. Specialist Davis and Miss Carol. They've got everyone wondering.

I didn't expect them showing up so soon after TERRACE. ... not like this, anyway.

[Or in Davis' case, really at all, after that conversation with Bil.]

[Itachi steps in as they're speaking, hovering just in the doorway. He'd had a gray bandanna tied around his eyes, but since there's company he's tugged it down to where it hangs at his neck.

This is a friend of Law's, but not someone the ninja knows well.]

[voidseeing]

[Gai notes Itachi's presence, but says nothing just yet. It's up to him to speak or to Law to introduce him; he's not here to socialize, after all.]

Not after what you told me you found out from Bil. He isn't just here to be friendly, that much is for certain. He's after something.

There's more going on than official business, I agree. It's... probably too soon for them to be here. The lady with him is named Carol. Her job is to manage relations between the enclosures and the Malnosso. Evaluate them. Mister Bil said she wasn't due for some years, even though he was going to try and speed the process along.

[Have you two talked yet? No? OKAY, introductions time.]

Itachi, this is Gai. Gai, Itachi, my partner.

[The ninja leans against the wall casually and gives Gai a nod of his head in greeting.]

Hello.

[voidseeing]

[Gai nods in return, smiling a bit. Yes, he can play nice with others sometimes.]

I've heard about you from Law. I was wondering when he'd finally bother to introduce me after all of that.

[deathsdoctor]

Waiting for all of us to end up in one place. [Yup.] Without some sort of trouble potentially threatening to rain down on our heads, preferably, but eh...

That seems to be the case less and less of late.

[He steps further into the room.]

You don't mind me joining, I hope? I'm not as familiar as I should be with the two who've come into town recently.

[voidseeing]

I don't mind. Law obviously doesn't either.

[Introductions over, it's time to get back down to business.]

Specialist Davis is a member of the MSF-- or rather, he was until just recently, if what Bil said is to be believed. He's been a key presence on multiple missions and drafts, including the mission to free the hospital that I commanded.

[And that is part of what makes Gai just so suspicious of him.]

[Mind? Of course not.

Law nods.]

He was relieved of active duty. Mister Bil didn't know much. I got the impression that the MSF guards knew much more than he did about the matter, but I was unable to ask the Commandant about it when I was part of her unit. The situation didn't allow for it.

He was involved in the assassination plot at Rataneran Keep to deliver Count Zompano to the Cultists for sacrifice. I showed both of you the locked entries by Mister Leonhart.

[No need to say how that turned out.]

Even though I worked with him on the Tyr's Revenge as his second officer [There was a mission that didn't go too well even if it was successful, can't you tell?] I admit I don't have the best bead on Mister Davis. Shikamaru's worked with him the most.

As for Miss Carol... people like Miss Raine, Miss Sheena, and Mister Albert would probably know more. They've been here the longest.

[Itachi nods again, processing all of this. He doesn't know when he allowed himself to fall behind on current events, and it's lucky for him that Law is making up for it.

That doesn't mean it isn't still disgraceful, of course.

He looks to Gai now, as he's the one who felt the need to stop by and discuss the matter.]

[voidseeing]

[Gai looks thoughtful, just taking this all in for a moment. He remembers Law showing him the information about that assassination mission, but as he wasn't present himself, all he can do is rely on what others have said about it.]

We should call all of them. I know what my experiences have been, but in a situation like this, a different perspective would be useful before we leap to any conclusions.

Sounds like a plan to me.

[... where's that journal?]

[Itachi gives Law a curious look. 'All of them' being who, exactly?

[Of course. He didn't know why he'd believed there might be more considered among "them".

The fact that he felt a bit separated from this was likely hitting upon usual paranoid tendencies.]

[He knows, partner. He's trying to get you into it.]

Why don't we each call one or two people over? Probably faster that way.

[Itachi reaches into his shirt and pulls out his own journal, laying it in his lap to let them know that he can help with this too if need be.]

[voidseeing]

I'll contact Albert.

[He knows the man and has shared information with him before, so it won't be out of the blue.]

[deathsdoctor]

I'll call Miss Raine. Why don't you call Miss Sheena, Itachi, and whoever's finished first can call Shikamaru.

[He and Raine talk, so there's that, and Sheena likes Itachi. All of them know Shikamaru so it doesn't matter who makes that call.]

[endgames]

[NO NEED AND NEVER FEAR. Mostly because he's already at the door. Knock-knock.]

[Setting the journal aside momentarily, Itachi stands to answer the door.

Opening it to find Shikamaru's familiar blur leaves the ninja blinking in surprise, and he nods a simple greeting before opening the door further to let him in.]

Contacting Shikamaru will not be an issue, it seems.
