Luceti Valley - The Second Log

Luceti Valley continued in its own merry little way. The rich got richer, the poor got poorer. A new tax hike had ensured increasing animosity between both groups, despite the protests of the every charitable Lord Mayor. But on the sixth day, something happens and people begin to notice things are unusual. Idle thoughts that if thought about too much is bound to get you a visit to the police station for an hour or so. Or worse, it may just get you committed.

Meanwhile, the asylum continues to gain more and more patients. Those that are trapped there will find escaping difficult, but there may be more to this place than they first assumed...

On the tenth, battle breaks out across Luceti Valley. People begin to exhibit powers and abilities they didn't know they had. The police begin rounding up these people to lock up. If they resist, its bound to come to blows. Even though no one has regained their memories of their true self yet, it becomes apparent that some trickery is afoot, even if they might not know the source or why.

Note: This is the second log! There will be a third and final event log for the aftermath. There will also be two separate logs specifically for finding John and defeating Zompano. For those of you that signed up, we'll be randomizing the results and replying to the selected characters later tonight. In the meantime, keep enjoying the event! If you have questions, direct them here.

[After a rough battle with quite a few of the law enforcement officers, Yuuna's broken away to see if there's anything she can do to help out anyone else getting attacked or being dragged off relentlessly from their new assailants. She hadn't thought however, that she and Saori had been watched- and now that she was alone, she'd be a much easier target. Much, much easier. Sword still in hand, not hers of course but a simple one from home that she'd kept sharp, she feels now as if she's ready to take on a dozen more of these men.

Until she feels a strong hand grab her wrist and twist. And it twists far harder than she can take, the weapon dropping out of her hand as strong arms grab her from behind. The men manage to completely restrain her, wicked smiles across their faces as they begin to drag her to the asylum.

It was a bad move on Yuuna's part, and now she's gotten herself into a bit of trouble, kicking and screaming]

You wretched monsters! What are you pieces of shit doing to everyone here, we're not going to let you get away with this, not if any of us have anything to say about it!

Ahhhh-! [She cries out as one of the officers slaps her across the face, shouting at her to stay silent.]

[Everything's going to hell. As much as he was picking up on the wrongness in the last two days, he didn't expect things to turn out like this. Who could have? People are growing wings, for Christ's sake.

Just keep your head bowed and move on quick and quiet. He has to find Sakura - find his mom. If he looks out for himself, he can keep them safe. Maybe find his friends--

The slap on the woman's face seems to echo, and her cry shocks him still. He thinks of his mother, and his wife, and his cousins and something in him breaks, his spine ramrod straight.]

Hey! [Out of the shadows of the buildings he was walking along, Shikamaru stalks towards them.] Don't lay another finger on her. That's a lady you're hitting.

[The slap really shocks her, to say the least. She stares at the culprit, accusing eyes burning with a fire straight out of a burning furnace, threatening to scorch him if he came that close again. She hated being hit like that. She thought she'd endured that enough, now only to have some strange man hitting her instead now. But struggle as she might, they've still got too good of a hold on her no matter what she tries.]

[One of the men turns toward Shikamaru, baton twirling in his hand as he addresses the shinobi.] Why don't you keep to yourself and move along before you join her. Just doin' you a favor here, kid. Now scram. I'll give ya five seconds before I change my mind.

[Yuuna tries to yank her arm out of the grasp of the two other cops, but they end up twisting her arm, making her cry out to keep her from moving again. To that, the third cop simply smiles to himself as he glances back at the violence.] Don't think you want that for yourself. She's gettin' her just desserts.

[For a moment Shikamaru's rooted again, eyes wide and limbs faintly trembling. Does he want this? No. God no, what is he thinking? He has a family to look after.

They twist her arm and the lady cries. Something whispers at him, in his heart, that he's better than that.]

Let her go.

Ferget it, keep it up and I'll be makin' sure you find a nice home inside of a cold cell ya streetrat.

[Yuuna glances over, seeing Shikamaru confronting that cop...she doesn't want him to get in trouble for her. So she's going to try to do something about it, take their attention off of him- and her heel manages to come up and score a direct hit to one guy, landing right in his crotch and he lets go, cussing at her and going down on a knee in pain. It's enough time for her to try to wrench free of the other, but the officer in front of Shikamaru is quick, tripping her to bend down and hold a gun to her head.]

[A gun. This is worse than taking her in, he's about to watch a woman die.]

I said stop!

[He doesn't know how it happens, but his shadow jumps at his feet. It stretches along the ground at a lightning pace until it connects to the shadows of all three officers. The one with the gun will find his finger freezing on the trigger. All three of them will notice that other than their eyes and mouths, they can no longer move of their own free will.]

[Shock sets in not only in the cops, but in Yuuna too- she's almost certain she's going to die, the barrel point-blank to her forehead. She freezes, not knowing what to do, or if there was anything she could do. The panic has set enough in now that she doesn't realize that the cops aren't moving at all, with no clue as to what he had just done to save her life.

The one holding her down lets out a 'the fuck...', but Yuuna feels like her life should be flashing before her eyes right about now.]

[What just happened?

Feeling his hearbeat jackhammer in his chest, when the cops don't move Shikamaru risks looking down at his feet, where his shadows ties him and the officers together like a web. They'll copy his movement, each of their heads jerking down as well, then back up when he looks back to them.

He moves an arm, they do the same. Expression dawning with comprehension, Shikamaru pantomimes holding a gun in the same hand the officer above Yuuna has his. He swings it up and away, and the gun moves from her forehead.

Through the cop, Shikamaru points it at one of the other two, aiming, but not fired.]

[When the weapon doesn't go off, when it doesn't fire and go through her skull, and when it's removed from her own head and pointed away, she brings her foot up into his stomach. Rolls out of the way like nothing else mattered than getting as far away from that deathtrap until she's back on her feet, behind him now and looking back to the one who'd just made that all possible.

She can't believe what she's seeing. That boy, standing there, in the same pose as the other officers. They haven't moved save for the one she'd just struck, who is trying to regain his breath after she'd just kicked it out of him. After retrieving her sword, she makes her way over to Shikamaru, still in amazement.]

I... [Her voice only trails off for a second, thinking of what to say. There was so much.] Thank you. I was more than done for without you just now. [A beat.]

Are you going to kill them?

[Ow? He actually felt the kick himself, but not... quite? Part way through, he did something, even if he doesn't know what. Instinct. He'd felt the ghost of a foot harsh against his own stomach, but then the shadow had quivered and he'd felt nothing of the impact. Weird.

He keeps the gun trained, loosening the 'trigger' finger, his hand's so shaky. His mouth feels suddenly dry.]

I... I've never killed anyone before.

[I don't want to, I just wanted to stop them...]

[Her eyes wander back over to her assailants. Who knew what they would do if he let them go.] I hadn't either until today. I don't want anyone to die. But...we had to defend ourselves. And that meant...

[She hates thinking about it. All the men she and Saori had killed earlier. The blood on her hands, it was enough to make her sick.]

I don't know what they'll do, is all. And I fear the worst, after what we saw earlier today. Maybe your power can take care of them in something a little less lethal. [Because lord knows Saori's power couldn't do that. It was nothing but lethal.]

[Less lethal?]

Uh... [He looks at a loss for a moment, before carefully maneuvering his empty hand. In the officer's, the gun flips around until the butt is facing outward.] Right.

[And then he smashes the butt of the gun into the heads of the other two cops, knocking them unconscious. He looks hopeful but kind of clueless about the whole thing. Does that work??]

[She cringes when the guns smash into the heads of her assailants, but hey, they weren't dead, just knocked out. Better than what happened earlier.]

Ha, hey, it's fine. That's a lot better than what I would be able to manage. I guess it's your turn to find out what neat things you can do. I learned about mine an hour or so ago. But I'm going to say yours are a lot cooler than mine.

Would any of it be useful for taking out the last guy here?

[Shikamaru doesn't want to smack himself in his own head to take him down.]

Uh. That's a good question. [She won't lie, that shadow manipulation he was doing was pretty awesome. But she sees the flaw now that he's pointed it out.]

[So she takes her blade, and hits the officer in the back of the head with the flat of it as hard as she can, knocking him out. She didn't know that when she'd kicked him before, Shikamaru felt it, so she's not really holding back with how hard she cracks the guy with the blade.]

[Turning, she smiles back at him.] How about that?

[You know, he thought he'd severed that connection earlier the first time around. He sure as hell didn't feel anything when he was taking out the other two cops.

Apparently, it takes active concentration to keep it that way, and only applies to external influences. Like a lady with a sword.]

Gah-! [His hands come up to grip the back of his head, even as he's knocked off balance and drops forwards on to his knees. His shadow also snaps like a rubber band back to himself, though unlike the officer he's not unconscious.]

[Ha...haaa....oops

That smile drops and she stands there a little dumbfounded, before she runs back to Shikamaru, apologizing her head off, and talking faster than what might be comprehensible.]

Oh Earth and Stars I'm so sorry, are you ok? I didn't mean to do that! Is it bleeding? Let me see your head! How did that happen? Oh gosh, you don't have a concussion do you? How many fingers am I holding up? Can you see straight? You don't feel nauseous do you?

[SHE CAN KEEP GOING, SHE REALLY CAN]

[Her questions are giving him as much of a headache as the blow did, and he opens one eye to look up at her.]

I'm... fine, I'm fine. [He manages to get that out from ground teeth, his expression turning from baleful to bafflement as he gets a better look.] Are you even holding up any fingers??

[There's no blood to be seen on his head, and there won't even be lasting damage. He's still trying to piece together what happened. Rather than the hilt of a sword, what it felt like to him was some external pressure snapping his head forward with great force. The jolt hurt more than anything else.]

[She looks at her hand. No, she's not holding up any fingers at all. Guess that means he's sort of ok! How silly of her to forget to even do so after asking him though...]

Um. No, I'm not. [She nervously puts her hand behind her back. Embarrassing.]

Well, you're not bleeding, that's good. Hey- so what is it that you just did? Your shadow was controlling those men. [Not gunna lie. It was pretty cool.]

I don't know... [He rubs the back of his head, still feeling unsteady.] I've never done that before.

Yeah, uh...about that. You're not the only one around here who's been suddenly discovering they can do amazing things. My wife was throwing lightning bolts through people and she told me about a friend of hers who was throwing men through several buildings. [Who even does that?]

I guess everyone's is different. Even I've got skills that I shouldn't have. I guess it'll help with cutting up vegetables for dinner though... [She waves her sword around, feeling natural in her hand. Though, somehow she knows this isn't her sword.]

It's happening to everyone?

[He promptly rocks back and up off his knees into a crouch, balancing on his feet once more.]

I guess. I wouldn't of known about it if I hadn't heard that it was. [She taps her chin for a moment.]

I know this might sound a little awful? But I think it's a good idea if you practice with that a little more and see if there's anything else you can do. That's not the first run in I've had with the authorities, and they mean business today.

I could guess that. If people are being thrown through buildings, nothing's gonna be peaceful about today.

[...he doesn't know if he likes the sound of that. Instinct is to find his wife and mother, and hide them. What the hell is ever going on around here?]

[She nervously rubs her arm. He's more correct than he even realizes.]

No, it really isn't. I... [She pauses, because really she can't thank him enough-] thanks again. Listen, you should keep your head down just in case. They'll be looking for me again but next time I'll be ready for them. Do what you need to do now, alright?
