Summary: Well. So sometimes the Malnosso actually do legitimate experiments that aren't heaped in heavy plot. This is one of those times. Look, just go read the mod post, would you?

In the bar!

[Barnaby himself is also in the bar, drinking himself numb while he perused his scattered notes. After the initial shock of seeing one of his friends at the beginning of the week, he simply decided that it was safest to watch from the sidelines, poke at a few places, and make note of certain details for later harrassment.

That was a good hobby, right?

As much as he liked his wine, this project required less dignified drinks. Beer and liquor were on the menu for the night. He had opted for beer, because he could at least keep his head straight while he thought over everything with the clarity that a few drinks could provide.

Maybe. There was no guarantee. He just needed a drink.]

[How coincidental that he's two chairs away from Nami, head propped on one hand as she goes through a couple of the weird entries that have turned up. There's someone muttering kind of insanely about blood in here... making a mental note to avoid that person, thank you very much...]

This is ridiculous. I don't even get what the point is.

[This calls for more rum. And seeing as the bartenders all appear to be MIA, she just hops behind the bar and serves herself.]

There isn't any.

[He answered flatly, his irritation clear in both his body language and tone. He finished off his glass and set it down with an inelegant clack and rested his chin on a hand as he watched the young woman work.]

Maybe they're just screwing with us-- I don't know.

[He narrowed his eyes and searched his memory for a glimpse of her around town, but found nothing. The obvious irritation in her tone, however, made him wonder...]

You're new here. Tell me you aren't crazy.

No crazier than I ever was. [She blinks at him. There's nothing in what he just said to say he isn't just another confused person wondering what's going on, but the irritation certainly strikes a chord.]

I take it you remember this place? This is my first experiment.

[So she was new. At least he found a sane person to talk to.]

I've been here for several months now, and all of these incidents have been extremely annoying. You should be glad that you weren't around last month-- this is mild in comparison.

The invasion, right? [An adult she can poke about this.] A little girl told me it happened earlier, but she was a little confused on the details.

Yes. We were invaded. They decided to rewrite our memories so they could sneak in without us noticing.

[Dry. Flat. This was a very touchy subject for him.]

Obviously, they failed. Apparently we're too strong for them.

[And the sister he found during that incident was responsible for taking the ringleader down.]

...what's the point of an invasion if they don't want you to know you're being invaded? That sounds kinda more like hiding.

And I think us not knowing was the point. It's easier to do that if the person doesn't know to put up a fight.

[One Tradewind for you then, sir. It's mostly rum.] What was the point of the invasion, then? Just sort of insert themselves as our great and powerful overlord and pretend it's always been that way?

[That was good. Rum was exactly what he needed that evening.]

Yes. That was their point. There was no way we could've put up a resistance.

I'm glad it failed, then. You guys got wise?

Something like that. I also think they did a sloppy job of it, but you can't rely on anyone to do anything right anymore. It's a good thing that their ringleader had ane ego that was bigger than him.

[weathervain]

Ego's the downfall of many a moron. [She crosses to the other side of the bar again, sliding him his drink.] Here. I'm Nami. Nice to meet a fellow sane person.

[tsunderebunny]

[A grateful nod as he accepted the drink.] Barnaby, and agreed. Watching all of this time and again gets annoying.

[And frustrating. He was still sore from the month before.]

How long have you been here for? I mean, this is my first one, but I can see how they'd get on your nerves already.

[tsunderebunny]

I've been here since the spring. [And maybe some time before that, but he found no proof. Damn that redheaded woman.] Not all of them are this bad, but that doesn't mean they aren't irritating.

I'd guess so. They're all inflicted without permission. Even if they're on the level about what they're trying to achieve, they could at least give the village a heads up.

They could, but I doubt they'd care.

Someone oughta tell them they can catch more flies with honey. [She downs half her drink while looking at the menu for drinks she hasn't tried yet.] But I guess for now I'll just be relieved I didn't get caught up in all this mess.
