Get Bent for a Birthday
Who: The Investigation Team and friends.
What: A small birthday party for a big guy.
When: January 19th
Where: Yu's apartment
Summary: It's Kanji's 17th birthday, so obviously the team and friends need to get together to celebrate.
Rating: PG
It was Kanji's birthday, so of course his close friends from home were going to go all out for him; that's just what they did for each other, after all. Yukiko was in charge of decorations, and Cross had been given the solemn task of helping her, if only so she didn't sneak away to the kitchen. Yu, of course, had taken supreme command of the cooking bouncing back and forth between cooking dinner and baking the perfect cake like he was born in front of a stove.
Nothing bad could go wrong here... right?

Kitchen
A distraction every now and again would be welcome, though.

"I have done some research at the library and have decided that this may be the best way to assist in this venture. Either that or I found a book on something called the King's game? And if I am wrong forgive me, but the Bloodcurdling Beefcake Emperor means he is an Emperor, which is just the leader of a larger kingdom."

"King's Game?" he echoed, finally getting what he was cooking to the point where he could safely turn away and investigate the bag. "It doesn't quite work that way, but..."
He paused, a small, slightly devilish grin coming to his face. "If they let us, I'll try to get a game going."

"I believe this tome shall be able to guide me through the process of making a thing they call nachos? I believe they are things that party goers crave."

"Have you ever cooked before?"

Living Room
...but just in case, he had one of Kanji's new friends keep an eye on her and help her out if she needed it. Tooooootally just to help her out.
this is cool, right?
So, currently he's holding a banner in his hands looking around the room. "Ahh, whereeeee...where do I stick this?" He needs direction.
i assume so
"Oh, try hanging it up the wall over there? It'll pop out more."

In any case, he's following her directions, putting the banner where he's told to and attempting to hang it up. They really needed step stools. But, just decorating in silence would be pretty boring. So he tries for idle conversation. "Soooo...you and Kanji are friends back in Japan, right? Your world Japan I mean."
The Party
Decor? Check.
Presents? Check and check.
Time to get this party underway properly!
Someone tell Yu to stop writing numbers on the chopsticks.Booze (i'm sorry but not really)
Cross had thought he should bring something to the party. You know, other than a present. He's got that all down in spades.
But for food and drink? He forgot. So when he was on his way he just ran into the bar (believing it to be the restaurant), grabbed a bottle of whatever from the back counter and ran to the party location.
Too bad he didn't check the contents. The bottle supposed to taste like juice...with the added mix of vodka.

Or teleporting away. Either way she had avoided him so far. And from the way he turned corners when he saw her, she knew he was too...
Still. It was his birthday, right? She had to come. And she had to get him something, which is why she turned up, dressed in a long, swishy black skirt and a simple blue blouse, with a carefully wrapped box hugged against her stomach. This wouldn't be so bad, she knew most of the people going, right?
...Hopefully. Maybe she'd even manage to talk to Kanji without turning red.

And, well, it was Eleanor.
After about thirty minutes of trying, very poorly, to act like he didn't see her, he gave up and walked over.
"So, um, hello."
Yeah, he's smooth. Can't even look at her. Kanji Tatsumi, Ladies' Man, folks!

"Kanji!" Sudden flashes of that kiss through her mind were enough to put a tint of flush to her cheeks, and remind her exactly why she had been avoiding him as much as possible. "Ah..." A beat, her arms clenching a bit around the gift she had been carrying around.
"...Happy Birthday?"

"Thanks... um, so, I-uh, didn't expect you to show up to this."

Birthday Boy makes his entrance.
No matter. He was going to go back to his apartment, take a shower to warm up and then get to work on something for...
Someone.
Except, as soon as he stepped food on the floor where all the IT had their apartments, he could hear people in his apartment. People that didn't sound like Goku and Gohan. He wished he had his shield with him, but that was still back in his bedroom in Inaba, so he was reduced to balling up his fists as he opened the door.

Oh no, someone save it...!

"Shit."

The cake didn't just hit Kanji's shoes; it got all over Yu's, as well as his pants. For a moment, he blinked down at it, a bit bewildered... before he reached down, swiping some of the cake off with a finger and sticking it in his mouth. He frowned slightly, disappointed.
"...it's too sweet," he murmured, reaching down to pick up the cake remains, before going back to the kitchen.

[ ... Who is this guy again? He might have seen him at school, but man if he's good with memory of anything ]

[He offered his hand; he's pretty sure he saw him around school, but they never talked.]
