[ Ash felt miserable but has still managed to, somehow, keep himself going. It was likely the part of him that wants to make sure that his Pokemon make it out of here safe that is keeping him from completely getting taken over by at the horrible that is this war. From collapsing from exhaustion. But it was blatantly there when he notices Chili. ]

C-Chili?

[ He didn't expect to see him at all. Not out here when he knows that Chili wasn't on the list when it first began. ]

[Chili had time to recover from the initial shock— well, maybe recover is too kind a word, maybe adapted is more accurate. Adapted to the situation, to the horror at hand, not to feel it or think about it too much, but the second he hears Ash's voice, even though the hope of finding him and Cilan are what drove him to this place, makes him freeze.

A feeling like a cold knife plunging through him, mixed with a strange sense of relief. It was the strangest combination, but that is what he felt. Relief and dread, before he turned, unable to school his expression into something more welcoming than a half-grin.]

T-took you long enough.

[Really, blaming when most would apologize for taking so long? Could Ash even hear that whisper over the noise, at this distance?

Maybe that's why Chili runs over, either way, it somehow leads to Chili wrapping his arms around Ash's shoulders and pulling him in for an awkward hug that's tight, but localized, as if he's scared he might hurt him by accident. he doesn't know if he's injured or not, he's just happy to see him.] 'm sorry, about this, I'm sorry,..

[ Ash's head was too chaotic to really comprehend what Chili whispered so the only thing he saw was the half-grin. He was going to ask why Chili was even here but before he could get any sort of sound out Chili had ran over and given him a hug.

Something that Ash was not expecting.

Maybe it was because Ash was already bruised, cut, and feeling pain all over but the hug didn't hurt. Maybe it was just Chili managing to successfully give a tight awkward hug. Pikachu carefully climbs down from Ash's shoulder and stands at his heal, giving the two trainers some space while Ash listens to the words that he could hear from Chili. ]

It... It's okay Chili.

[ He wanted to say that he himself was okay but the words couldn't form. He was able to push himself to saying that everything was going to be okay when he spoke with Cilan but that... that was four days ago.

While Ash doesn't go for hugs this was the most comfort he's gotten since then other than those who have helped with his injuries so he'll take it in. ]

I'm sorry, I'm sorry... just— sorry. Y'shouldn't be here.

[He doesn't let him go for a while, as if fearing he might come to further harm the second he lets go of him, he's so small, was he always that small? He felt sick again.

It must have been a full minute or two before he finally broke the hug, hands sliding off of his shoulders, but still not daring to let go of the younger boy, instead holding onto his wrist, trying to examine his arms, looking him over worriedly.]

Are you hurt? How's Pikachu? [Pansear just awkwardly looks Pikachu's way from behind Chili.]

... did you see Cilan?

's not your fault.

[ He knows he shouldn't be here. He's been told this before by Cilan. But he had no other option than to be here on this battlefield so for the time being there was little point in arguing about it.

Not that he even had the energy to do that.

When Chili examines his arms he'll see cuts and bruises basically all over. Part of one arm is bandaged but it's been dirtied dirt and blood. It's hard to tell whether the blood was from someplace else or if it was seeping through the bandage. ]

Pikachu is okay. [ Not even answering the question about himself. Pikachu is in better shape than he is although just as tired. Pikachu nods at Pansear in agreement to what Ash had said. ]

I... I haven't seen 'im for a while. [ He tone dampens heavily at this. They wanted to stick together and yet they couldn't. ]

[He swallows the lump that forms in his throat. He can't really mask the disappointment that cracks his voice:] I see. Alright...

[He focuses on the wounds, leaving the issue of where Cilan was aside for the moment. Too much to deal with.]

... y'gotta change these bandages...

[Chili has cloth to spare, he hasn't managed to use up what he's got, and Pansear could help disinfect (and possibly close up wounds, if it comes to that) with heat.]

I.. don't have anythin' to change 'em with.

[ It was thanks to someone else that it had been bandaged and healed a bit in the first place. Not enough to where there isn't still a deep cut there, but enough to where it didn't hurt for a bit.

Though it hurts now. Although he was told to try not to use his arm it was near futile to follow up with that with the way things are right now.

Right now he was afraid to touch it; afraid that it might hurt worse if he did. ]

Relax, I got you covered. [He holds them for a moment longer, before motioning away. "Let's go somewhere with more cover," was what he meant to convey. Trying to deal with this out here is leaving too big of an opening, is it?]

Okay.

[ When Chili motions for them to go elsewhere Ash simply nods. Pikachu climbs back onto Ash's shoulder and he'll limp after Chili to wherever he decides to guide them to. ]

[It takes Chili a while to find a place that's both concealed and free of the smell of rotting flesh and so many insects (he's not asking for ideal conditions here, just— a little less nasty and encouraging infection, please?!), sorry for the long walk...]

Sit down.

[He's bringing out a change of bandages and a canteen, glancing at Pansear.]

[ Ash somehow managed the whole walk despite his foot screaming at him to stop walking. But the moment Chili told him to sit down he did so almost too quickly in order to get the weight off his foot.

Once he's seating though Pikachu hops off and sits beside him so he's not in the way. ]

[Chili kneels down in front of him, leaving the canteen to Pansear, and reaching for the arm and slowly undoing the bandages after a bit of searching.]

... tell me if— it hurts. [He deflates mid-way through the sentence, as if realizing how ridiculously unnecessary it was. Of course, it hurts. What convinced him the boy wasn't in pain the whole time?!]

[ Ash flinches when Chili first touched the bandages but does his best to hold down anything else that might indicate that he's in pain. He doesn't want Chili to think that he's hurting him more and stop what he's doing. ]

'm okay

[ No he's not but trying to be cooperative here. ]

Pansear, can y'heat up the water?

[Chili stops midway, because it seems to have caked on with all that dried blood.] ... did you ever change these?

[Trying not to sound worried here, he really doesn't need to scare Ash.]

[ Ash shakes his head at Chili's question. ]

N-No...

[ Although Chili tried not to sound worried the question itself makes Ash worried. It's not bad is it? ]

[No, not bad yet, it just means it'll be harder to remove.

Chili takes the canteen before Pansear's done heating it up, so it's just... warm, but not too hot yet! He's washing off some of the blood and making it peel off more easily. So far, so good, right? Less itchy too!

~~Things might go downhill from here.~~]

[ Being less itchy is always a good thing and the water having the bandages peel off more easily is also a good thing! Though the water hitting some of his cuts and causing to sting not so much.

But once this bandage is remove everything should be easier right.

~~'Cept apparently not sob~~ ]

[Chili looks a bit awkwardly at the dressing, tugging gingerly on one end (that's going to sting). Even with the water, it's not coming off so easily...

Rip the whole thing off? It's clearly unsanitary, right? He should, even if it looks like it'll hurt like—]

Forgive me.

[YANK!

It'll come off with one sharp pull, pleasedon'tkickhim.]

[ Uh oh. Ash doesn't like that look that Chili was giving the dressing and the stings coming from him tugging on it wasn't helping either.

But before Ash could say anything Chili had already sharply pulled on the bandage so the sound that comes from Ash isn't words but a very sharp yell of pain. ]

CHILI!

[ The loudest he's been in a while but also upsetting because wow that really hurt. ]

[Pansear was huddled in a corner with eyes shut and paws over its ears, momentarily abandoning the canteen.]

I'MSOSORRY!!

[Chili sounded quite pathetic.

Well, let's look at that wound! Even if we've ripped off a bit of that skin, how's it healing?]

T-the worst is over, though, right?

[Fortunately, the pain should be short-lived, even if it was very nasty!

...... until the water came to wash the blood and can you feel the grime in your skin get flushed out?]

[ Pikachu still stuck next to Ash and looked at his trainer worried because that was a really bad yell of pain.

Ash gives Chili a very pained and uncertain look at his words. It's not over because while the pain from the bandage pull was short live his arm is now throbbing. The remainders of the gash that was starting to close had reopened and it does not look pretty.

Neither is Ash's second pained yelled as the water washes the blood because no no no that hurts ]

Chilii!

[ This one was more desparate then angry because he just wants the pain to stop ]

[Chili cringes, hanging his head. when Ash screams again. He looks quickly, left and right, but there's nothing he has that can help this, is there? Backpacks, they need the straps, bandages, he'll definitely still need them after this, blades won't help this situation!

... he whispers something to Pansear in a low voice which prompts the Pokemon to search the bag, then Chili brings his left hand up to Ash's face.]

Bite down. On my finger, my palm, I don't care, just don't let go.

["I don't want you to lose your tongue" omitted because Ash has been terrorized enough, don't you think?]

You won't have to worry about that arm anymore, very soon. This is it.

[That... was the most discomforting attempt at providing comfort ever, Chili.]

[ It takes a moment for Ash to regain enough composure to respond to Chili but when he does he's also giving Chili an even more uncertain and quizzical look. ]

Wha? I don't wanna bite down on you.

[ And the fact that you're asking him to do that is very unnerving. And your attempt at comfort doesn't help at all. ]

What are you gonna do?

.... apply heat to close the wound, just. [Very stiff delivery.]

Listen to me and bite. Don't let go, it could be dangerous.

[Absolutely every kind of warning flag is flying up.]

If it's dangerous then why do we havta do it?

[ The fact that you're actually telling him that it's dangerous is frightening Chili... ]
