All the days
It's another battlefield. Another ruined husk of what once was. It's something he should be used to and is. He is a child of such places after all. Looking forward is all anyone can do.
Despite all they do, some die over the coming days. Law's seen Shift induced illness and injury from his experiences with the Iron Eye... but this feels different and it nags at him. Those who die will be examined post mortem when there is time for causes, findings written a notebook that contains notes from Zompania. as well. He may find cause to quietly ask a few questions of the MSF, he may not.]

22nd
Hey there. I'm Trafalgar Law, one of the doctors here. What's your name?
[Girl can't be older than eleven. At least she looks no older than eleven. With non humans it's always tricky to tell.]
22nd
"Lynara. Are you part elf? You're very tall."
22nd
Well Miss Lynara, I don't know. I don't know my family history. [He's pretty sure there's no elves on the Grand Line. 'Fairies' maybe in Dressrosa, but no elves. But then again, saying there's none of something on the Line just seems to encourage it to pop up.] I could have that or a bit of mermish or something back there. Do you think I do?
I'm kinda average height for back in my home, though. People grow very tall there, even when they don't have any giant in their background.
22nd
"I don't know my family either. I was in the orphanage before I came here. I think you'd have gills or a tail if you were mermish. But where I'm from mostly elves are tall. Tauren and draenei are just big.
Am I going to lose my arm? It really hurts."
22nd
[They have a whole number of races back home.
... yeah. What does lie beneath those bandages? Time to get to work.]
Not if I have my way. Can I see?
22nd
/Don't worry, L-A-W is a very good doctor. He'll do everything he can to help./
[Lynara nods sedately.]
/We had a nice doctor too. He always carried mint candy in his pocket./
[When she winces, Ginia looks over at her outstretched arm. Underneath the bandages is a deep bite mark - Shift Hunter most likely - showing signs of infection. Ginia's leg twitches, remembering the feeling of a Shift Hunter clamping down on her thigh and she exhales sharply and looks away from the injury.]
/I'm going to remove the bandages on your ears, okay?/
[Lynara's head bobs once and she signs "okay". Ginia reaches out and begins gently removing the bandages. They're scratched a bit burned on the edges, though no worse than a first degree burn. The ears will heal with time, but the arm is worrisome. Poor child.]

[The voice is soft, tired. Perona's not the most experienced doctor, but she does know her stuff in tough situations, and she's a quick learner. Still, with all the casualties, and the sheer amount of them all, deaths are something to be expected. She's not upset by it - Perona's familiar with being around corpses, and the air of death, they don't bother her - but the memories that come with the thick air and the agonized yells is not one Perona enjoys. She'd have preferred to just forget about Zompania completely, in all honesty.
At the lest, there's more than enough to keep her mind and hands occupied, and people she enjoys being near to just sit with for a while. Her skills are good here, and there're many thing she can still learn from a professional like Law.]
23rd
[He likes to keep track. If there is something working its way through here, he needs to know. Sooner or later a pattern (if there is one) will reveal itself.]
23rd
The bed number is seventeen. I can take you there if you have a moment. ...It was a young woman. [Probably around her age, give or take two years. It's not the worst she's seen body wise, but Perona still isn't exactly used to dealing with people actually dying. Back on Thriller bark, the bodies were already gone, and the more gruesome parts recovered by Hogback. Even a person like Perona, who often delights in the macabre, is turned off by this level of sorrow and pain in the air. There are kids here, too...]
23rd
He remembers the names because it's part of him. He always remembers the names.]
Please.
[He needs to be sure.
The children are going too. Not too many... but. More than enough. Law is purposely numbing himself from feeling much about it. He's simply quieter when it happens. Much, much quieter. This happens. This is simply part of the experience. It's not like he hasn't lost children before.]
23rd
Besides, her head's starting to hurt. She probably won't be of any use if her current stae even if she wanted to be. The atmosphere and bad memories seem to be taking their toll.]
Do...do you need anything, Mr. Law?
22nd
Fayt had done what he could, applying some symbology to the man's wounds and bandaging the leg to stem the bleeding, but he needed way more help than Fayt could give him. His face looked bad, but Fayt was worried about how much his leg was bleeding.]
Hey, I need some help here!
22nd
[Got a free bed open. Law himself will not wait by it. Instead he'll be coming up for an immediate assessment of the damage.
... fuck, that leg. Law's immediately going for Nala, the magic twice as strong in here while he presses more bandaging over the wound to stint the bleeding until he could get him on the bed for treatment. The head's bad too, but it looks like things will keep there for a few moments until he gets the more pressing problem under control.]
22nd
[For once, he's hoping it's only that his skill with healing symbology has always sucked. for his part, the guy seems to be moaning in pain, voice near incoherent thanks to how swollen his face has gotten.]
22nd
[Now to go in and try to close the wound manually as well. Filial magic is as it always is - if there is a Shift at play, he'll find out soon enough because his magical efforts won't work. There's a tray with all the necessary supplies beside the bed.] Tell me if that guy loses consciousness. [His fingers are flying as the blue white glow surrounds the wound. This is nasty. He needs to work fast.]
22nd
[Well... ok, so the hissed 'shut up' he gets isn't exactly the nicest response, but Fayt didn't exactly blame the guy.]
22nd
[And it looks that is the case here. Something in the guy is resisting him. Not completely. The magic is working sluggishly. But enough.
It's a good thing he's a traditional medic. Good thing he's fast.]
But that bandaging job you did did the trick. It slowed the bleeding down just enough.

She's just finished tending to someone (a child, he's no more than a child), completing one last Ply with a final look of concern that her unconscious patient, fortunately, cannot see. It's serious, and something in him is almost fighting her off. Removing a pair of bloody gloves, she glances in Law's direction, halfway to a kind of silent signal, and sees him looking through a familiar notebook.
Mia sits up straighter, watching with a purpose now. It reminds her of Zompania, of course, of that temporary affliction of Law's for which they never found a cause.]
22nd
Another child.
Law's tracking the patients that are not responding to their efforts (that are dying despite their efforts). There's something wrong in the ward, something he can't dismiss as a random Shift, even as there are Natural Shifts all about. It's all too... similar how it happens. Too specific. When he was dealing with Shift injuries with the Iron Eye, how things would present would be varied. This feels to him more like a Shift from an experiment a little, even as he notes the difference... that it's not happening at once.
... something seeping, creeping... like poison in the air...
... and like what happened to him.]
It's not working, is it?
[He's moving softly forward. Rhetorical question, really. They both know something's wrong.]
22nd
[It is her preference to use Psynergy anyway, but she can run out of that, while Nala is always available as long as Mia herself can function. She looks at her sleeping patient and breathes a sigh.] He didn't fight it as strongly as the woman from this morning, at least. I think he'll be all right if things here keep improving.
[Eyes back on the notebook again, Mia lifts her chin and eyebrows in question. If Law reads himself into arrhythmia again they will be too shorthanded, even for an hour.]
22nd
I'm keeping track of everything. If I write it all down, maybe I can better see the cause.
[Easier to compare things when it's all down in ink and not just running around in his head.
Even if he can't see the pattern yet, he has suspicions.]
... it doesn't feel like a random Shift either. The barrier's in tatters but if it were just Natural Shifts at play, the effects should be more varied. I feel like I'm missing something.
[Like it's staring him in the face.
He doesn't say sickness. Given Vaskoth. He wasn't there, but he had helped work up the cure from Luceti's side with those that were left. But he can't help but think of it along with Zompania.]
22nd
I've been thinking of...possibilities. [Vaskoth always enters her mind first. Always. Here it is again, seeping into her judgment of the situation.] Have we seen anyone arrive without this- this problem, and then develop it later?
[Like Law, Mia avoids "sickness" as much as she can. If it is a Shift, then it isn't a sickness at all, and shouldn't be planted in anyone's mind as such.]
22nd
[They've got the MSF in here as well and the MSF? Aren't really talking.
Law is going to have to do something about that.]
