[Ginia comes by the medical center in the afternoon carrying a young girl bridal style. The girl looks around fearfully with glowing green eyes, her long pointy ears wrapped in bandages and dark brown hair singed and cut short. One arm is wrapped up in a bandage from wrist to elbow. Ginia holds her close as she whistles to get Law's attention, head tilting toward some of the open spaces. Where to, doctor?]

[This bed right here. Law looks to the space in question as he moves forward to the pair. He goes for his best smile in this situation - a small quiet one, nothing big.]

Hey there. I'm Trafalgar Law, one of the doctors here. What's your name?

[Girl can't be older than eleven. At least she looks no older than eleven. With non humans it's always tricky to tell.]

[Ginia sets the girl down on the bed, taking a seat on the edge and taking out a notepad and a pen. When Law asks his question, Ginia quickly translates his words into sign language. The girl looks shyly at the doctor before signing a response, pausing, then quickly signing something else that makes Ginia smile. Ginia quickly translating her words into writing and showing the message to Law. It's not elegant, but it works.]

"Lynara. Are you part elf? You're very tall."

[Okay. That makes him smile a bit more.]

Well Miss Lynara, I don't know. I don't know my family history. [He's pretty sure there's no elves on the Grand Line. 'Fairies' maybe in Dressrosa, but no elves. But then again, saying there's none of something on the Line just seems to encourage it to pop up.] I could have that or a bit of mermish or something back there. Do you think I do?

I'm kinda average height for back in my home, though. People grow very tall there, even when they don't have any giant in their background.

[Ginia signs swiftly with no added commentary. A little more wariness leaves Lynara as she reads Ginia's signs, then looks back at Law, her own signs coming a bit faster. Ginia writes quickly, pausing a few times to confirm she was reading things correctly.]

"I don't know my family either. I was in the orphanage before I came here. I think you'd have gills or a tail if you were mermish. But where I'm from mostly elves are tall. Tauren and draenei are just big.

Am I going to lose my arm? It really hurts."

Aa, but you see, people who have mermish heritage look completely human from the second generation onwards in my home. Makes it tough to tell.

[They have a whole number of races back home.

... yeah. What does lie beneath those bandages? Time to get to work.]

Not if I have my way. Can I see?

[Lynara nods nervously after Ginia translates, holding out her bandaged arm. Ginia moves out of the way and sits on her other side. She's not sure what the extent of the girl's injuries are, the girl having been handed off her to her. Ginia gives Lynara's shoulder a reassuring squeeze, signing to keep her distracted.]

/Don't worry, L-A-W is a very good doctor. He'll do everything he can to help./

[Lynara nods sedately.]

/We had a nice doctor too. He always carried mint candy in his pocket./

[When she winces, Ginia looks over at her outstretched arm. Underneath the bandages is a deep bite mark - Shift Hunter most likely - showing signs of infection. Ginia's leg twitches, remembering the feeling of a Shift Hunter clamping down on her thigh and she exhales sharply and looks away from the injury.]

/I'm going to remove the bandages on your ears, okay?/

[Lynara's head bobs once and she signs "okay". Ginia reaches out and begins gently removing the bandages. They're scratched a bit burned on the edges, though no worse than a first degree burn. The ears will heal with time, but the arm is worrisome. Poor child.]

I don't carry candy, but I do tell stories. Want to hear one?

[The ears will be fine - the arm is much more worrisome. It's infected, though there is no sign yet of any gangrene. It has a chance.

Clean the wound, go from there. Attack the infection aggressively with topical and oral antibiotics and healing magic.]

I think we caught this in time. We're going to have to give you a lot of medicine to make the infection go away so this can heal, but you don't need to lose the arm.

[Ginia translates for Lynara, the girl looking a little more reassured. She smiles lightly and nods, signing quickly as Ginia translates back into writing. ]

"Is it an adventure story with lots of traveling and fighting? Those ones are the best."

Absolutely. Once upon a time there was a world covered by oceans, dotted with islands. Some were nestled upon the waves, others in the clouds of the sky, and some... some were contained in bubbles underwater.

But you see, these oceans were divided. Longitudinally by a great wall of rock circling the globe, and at either side of the equator by belts of calm sea. No wind blew there, there were no surface currents - and most terrifying of all, it was the home of monsters.

Giant monsters over five kilometres long.

Very hungry monsters.

[It is definitely a Shift Hunter bite. Law continues to clean it carefully, disinfecting as he goes.]

But within those belts of calm lay a very special sea. A sea that didn't obey any known law of nature and where anything could happen. It had only been completely explored by one crew, headed by one man.

The Pirate King.

[Ginia begins translating Law's words, crafting pictures with her hands. Curled hands moving steadily for rolling waves, cupped hands dotting along to show islands on water and sky, flat hands forming cliffs, fingers interlocking to show the teeth of great monsters, Ginia paints a picture for Lynara. It works; her attention is fixed on the story, her arm injury forgotten.

At the mention of the Pirate King, Lynara's eyes light up and she signs quickly, injured arm tugging away in her excitement.]

"There was a pirate king here! He had a bright red coat and an ugly scar across his face. His name was Firebeard."
