Speed Dating Year 2

[Much like last year, the rec center is decorated and freshly cleaned, with a plethora set up throughout the main floor. Each set includes a small table and two chairs facing each other. Along with number plates to help direct people to their partners, there is a small pile of coloured paper cards, stacked down, and pencils on every table.

Further back there is a collection of couches forming a lounging circle, as well as a couple of tables with drinks and snacks all set up and ready to be eaten. And yes, the fantastic rainbow cookies from the year before have made a reappearance. No doubt they'll disappear just as fast. The lounge area has a recycled sign from last year that says, "If you find yourself on a turn without a date, come hang out!", and this year, a new weird-looking potato man is hanging on the wall. ...But whatever.

All in all, the whole place looks ready for a big event, and when enough people have gathered - and the clock ticks to the agreed starting time - Teddy and Billy step forward to get things moving at last.]



Hey, hey! Announcement time here! Can everyone hear me? [...] All right, good!

So, some of you may remember this from last year. If you didn't come then, or if you're new, or happened to get roped into this by one of your friends, then on behalf of... uh...

[He glances down at Billy and, taking the cue, his partner speaks up.]

...We'll call the name a work-in-progress for now. Kurt says he's got it covered.

[His response is a raised eyebrow, because really, Kurt? But Teddy gets right back on track with a smile after that.] … Welcome to the second annualish speed dating event! I'm Teddy, this is my fiancé Billy, and we'll be your hosts for today. I know you just want to get started already, but unfortunately, we've got to go over the rules and stuff first. Everyone should have a list of numbers. When Billy gives the signal, everyone will head to the table with the first number on your list, where you'll either wait for or meet up with the person you're paired with. You'll both have five minutes to talk and get to know each other, for better or for worse, and leave with some sort of impression of them. Hopefully good, but can't win 'em all, right? After those five minutes, one of us will blow the whistle, and then you'll head to the table with the next number on your list. Repeat steps one through whatever, until we've reached the end! Hopefully by then, you'll have a new friend, a potential date, or hey, you might have just met the new love of your life!

[Teddy looks to Billy then, who speaks up next to him.]

The tables have conversation cards, in case you're not sure how to get things rolling, or if you're feeling shy- it has topic ideas, questions to ask your partner, whatever we could come up with. As you go through the list, try to give a little 'yes' or 'no' to the people you speak to- yes for wanting to see them again, no for it not being a good match. Once it's over just hand in your papers and we'll let everyone know - discretely, of course! - who gave and received a mutual yes. You don't have to wait for us, though- if you hit it off with someone really well and you both want to hang out right away, don't let us stop you. We have games and stuff set up over in the lounge area-

[He gestures to aforementioned lounge, complete with couches, a couple of tables, a stack of assorted games, and a snack and drink table.]

-Or you could just sneak off to keep yourselves entertained. We don't judge.

We totally do judge, just so you know.

[Billy elbows him. Gosh, boyfriend, behave.

Teddy just laughs a little, waving his hand as if to dismiss a joke.]

Okay, okay, we don't. Anyway, that's about it. We're going to give everyone one minute to get to the first table, then we'll blow the whistle and let everyone start. Thanks for coming, have a great time!

[They go back to sitting at their host table, and then, after the minute passes and everyone's settled, the whistle is blown. BEGIN!]

[ Okay so Ash doesn't understand why it's called Speed Dating nor did he understand like half of the explanation. But Gold signed him up and he was told that he could make new friends so here he is! Well, him with Pikachu on his shoulder as he moves to his table. Really, if anyone thought he was going to be here without Pikachu today you were wrong. Have fun befriending both Ash and Pikachu today. Ash isn't wearing his usual clothing but he is just wearing a t-shirt and his usual jeans. And his hat, of course, though it might not be on his head the whole time.

If you decide to follow Gold's extra suggestion of 'Please teach him what Romance is' well..... good luck.

He'll likely be greeting everyone first with a 'Hey!' or maybe even as much as 'Hey, I'm Ash and this is my partner Pikachu!' both greetings being followed by a 'Pika!' from Pikachu. And then, despite everything he'll just be as lively and cheerful as he pretty much always is. After all, he is here to make friends there's not much room for anything else! ]

[Ven's spoken to Ash before, but what really grabs his eye is the Pikachu. He's seen a couple in the village before, but this little guy sure looks friendlier than Linda. And hey, he can spot an upbeat attitude a mile away, so, peeking at his friend list, Ven moseys on over with a grin.]

Whew, sure are a ton of people... I don't think I've seen the Rec Center this busy in a while.

[But it's for a good cause, so who's complaining? Certainly not him.]

[ Ash smiles brightly back and nods his head. ]

Yeah! There's a lotta people here today, aren't there? There's some good food here too!

[ Pikachu agrees cheerfully with the latter, giving out a happy 'pika!' after Ash is done talking. ]

Like the cookies?

[Ven laughs sheepishly, digging into his pocket.]

I grabbed a couple extra if you want 'em. Figure it might save a few trips to the table.

[Here, he'll even hold one out for Pikachu, just in case.]

Yeah, they're really great!

[ Though arguably they aren't the best cookies he's had they're still really good and was more than happy to hear that Ven brought some. ]

[ Pikachu takes the cookie and gives Ven a thanks in his own language before taking a small bite. There's then a small squeal because wow these cookies are pretty good! ]

[That squeal alone melts Ven's heart. Not that it's a difficult task. Ven's about as soft as a stick of cotton candy, and without even thinking, he reaches out to pat Pikachu on the head.]

He sure is a cute little guy. Hard to believe that something so small could carry all that electrical power.

[At least, if Linda's any indication. Maybe it's different between Pikachus?]

[ Pikachu will accept the pat on the head while he munches on the cookie some more, giving Ven another happy 'pika' in thanks for the pat. ]

Yeah. Not only is Pikachu cute but he's really strong too.

[ If Team Rocket's obession is any indication there is. Ash's Pikachu seems to be the ability to pack in more electrical power than the average Pikachu. ]

[Ginia remembers Ash from helping out with Friend and Rival day and she takes an easy seat across him and Pikachu. It also occurs to her there are a lot of Pikachu (Pikachus?) in the village.]

[ Oh hey there! Ash smiles when Ginia gets to the table, reading what she wrote before nodding his head. ]

Yeah, it's been pretty fun so far!

[ Pikachu agrees with the sentiment as well, giving Ginia a happy 'Pika' in response. ]

Have you been havin' fun?

[Ginia nods and types again, switching programs so her phone reads everything out loud. Makes it easier for most people she's found.]

Hasn't been bad, always nice meeting new people. It's good seeing so many people here too.

[ Ash finds it a lot easier, not having to spend time reading it before being able to respond. Once her phone stops reading it out loud he nods his head. ]

Yeah, it's really great bein' able to meet new people and make new friends! And even if it's someone you've already met it's good t' be able to talk with 'em some more and get to know 'em a bit better.

That part is nice. Make any new friends or get to know people yet?

[Granted, this event is also for speed dating, but Ash strikes her as a bit young for any romance. Give it a few years.]

Uh-huh! I haven't really made any new friends but I've gotten to know some people a bit more.

[ He doesn't even know that this is also for dating. Just friendship. ]

[See, normally Wan would be more than happy to chat it up with Ash. But he doesn't know this day is also about friendship instead of just romance.

And you know what? No. Wan is pretty open minded about who he is going to date but no. He is not dating a child. He has standards. So he is going to purposefully avoid his table for the "date".

But, well... he kind of feels bad leaving him alone. He was probably signed up by his friends like him. It's not Ash's fault that he's way too young to be dating. So Wan will practically sprint to his table three minutes late so he only has to stick around for a minute or two anyways. His hoodie is zipped up and it looks kind of lumpy.]

Sorry I'm late!

[He unzips his hoodie and dumps a bunch of cookies from the lounge on the table. Great, all that work Sokka and the gaang put in to making him look decent and he's covered in rainbow crumbs.

But hey, at least Ash and Pikachu can share some cookies with him, right?]

[ WOW WAN THANKS FOR LEAVING US HANGING LIKE THIS.

Ash was about to consider going to the lounge for the next few minutes when Wan comes rushing over to the table with the cookies. He watches as his friend dumps said cookies on the table and unzips the hoodie. He gives Wan a small smile afterwards. ]

No, it's okay. I was just talkin' a little with Pikachu until ya came over.

[ Or well, something like that, yeah. ]

Did ya bring these cookies for us?

I can't eat all of them by myself! Besides, I like sharing food with my friends.

[it's kind of his thing. And without further ado he will shove a cookie in hos mouth. He's usually not the type to literally stuff his face but... he might as well have a cookie or two before the timer goes off.]

They're really good.

[He says with his mouth full.]

[ Ash will smile a bit at that ]

Sharing food with your friends is a lot better than just eatin' all alone!

[ Pikachu shares the sentiment by agreeing with his trainer before hopping down onto the table and taking a cookie to munch on. Ash also takes a cookie and shoves it into his own mouth. ]

Yeah, they are! I would eat 'em all day if I could!

You two can have the rest of them if you want, I ate a lot of them already.

[Actually Wan is a liar, but saying this makes it easier to give Ash and his pokemon pals whatever cookies survive the feeding frenzy when the timer goes off.]

[ Though if Wan really insists he'll take them but he wants to make sure. ]

[ Well they left from the same house... but he doesn't know the guy super well so... ]

[ Rin says this while eating a cookie as he sits. To great the guy ]

[ He knows Rin a little from seeing him around the house and the kitchen but that's about it so Ash is looking pretty forward to actually meeting the guy. ]

Hey! I've been good. How 'bout you? Enjoyin' that cookie?

[ It makes him want to have more cookies who knows how many he's had already oops ]

'Course I am! These things are weirdly great for bein' all rainbow-colored! I wonder how they manage it...

Hmmm... I 'unno. I don't really know how ta cook. But maybe Cilan would know the answer to how they make 'em rainbow but still tasty!

Well these are just sugar cookies, right? But there's some sort of extra thing going on here but I'm not sure what it is... butter, cream, maybe? It could just be a specific sort of sugar. I'd love to ask whoever made 'em how they work, I mean baking isn't my forte, but a lot of people seem to like them, right?

I wish I knew, but I dunno anything 'bout making cookies. What do you use ta make cookies in th' first place? But yeah, I haven't heard anyone not liking the cookies yet so I wonder what it is that makes 'em so good.
