Speed Dating Year 2

Who: Anyone who wants/is forced to come
What: Speed Dating!
When: Today (Saturday) afternoon-ish
Where: The Rec Center
Summary: Details here, Roster here!
Rating: PG/13/T/R/god I don't know there's too many people

[Much like last year, the rec center is decorated and freshly cleaned, with a plethora set up throughout the main floor. Each set includes a small table and two chairs facing each other. Along with number plates to help direct people to their partners, there is a small pile of coloured paper cards, stacked down, and pencils on every table.

Further back there is a collection of couches forming a lounging circle, as well as a couple of tables with drinks and snacks all set up and ready to be eaten. And yes, the fantastic rainbow cookies from the year before have made a reappearance. No doubt they'll disappear just as fast. The lounge area has a recycled sign from last year that says, "If you find yourself on a turn without a date, come hang out!", and this year, a new weird-looking potato man is hanging on the wall. ...But whatever.

All in all, the whole place looks ready for a big event, and when enough people have gathered - and the clock ticks to the agreed starting time - Teddy and Billy step forward to get things moving at last.]

Hey, hey! Announcement time here! Can everyone hear me? [...] All right, good!

So, some of you may remember this from last year. If you didn't come then, or if you're new, or happened to get roped into this by one of your friends, then on behalf of... uh...

[He glances down at Billy and, taking the cue, his partner speaks up.]

...We'll call the name a work-in-progress for now. Kurt says he's got it covered.

[His response is a raised eyebrow, because really, Kurt? But Teddy gets right back on track with a smile after that.] … Welcome to the second annualish speed dating event! I'm Teddy, this is my fiancé Billy, and we'll be your hosts for today. I know you just want to get started already, but unfortunately, we've got to go over the rules and stuff first. Everyone should have a list of numbers. When Billy gives the signal, everyone will head to the table with the first number on your list, where you'll either wait for or meet up with the person you're paired with. You'll both have five minutes to talk and get to know each other, for better or for worse, and leave with some sort of impression of them. Hopefully good, but can't win 'em all, right? After those five minutes, one of us will blow the whistle, and then you'll head to the table with the next number on your list. Repeat steps one through whatever, until we've reached the end! Hopefully by then, you'll have a new friend, a potential date, or hey, you might have just met the new love of your life!

[Teddy looks to Billy then, who speaks up next to him.]

The tables have conversation cards, in case you're not sure how to get things rolling, or if you're feeling shy- it has topic ideas, questions to ask your partner, whatever we could come up with. As you go through the list, try to give a little 'yes' or 'no' to the people you speak to- yes for wanting to see them again, no for it not being a good match. Once it's over just hand in your papers and we'll let everyone know - discretely, of course! - who gave and received a mutual yes. You don't have to wait for us, though- if you hit it off with someone really well and you both want to hang out right away, don't let us stop you. We have games and stuff set up over in the lounge area-

[He gestures to aforementioned lounge, complete with couches, a couple of tables, a stack of assorted games, and a snack and drink table.]

-Or you could just sneak off to keep yourselves entertained. We don't judge.

We totally do judge, just so you know.

[Billy elbows him. Gosh, boyfriend, behave.

Teddy just laughs a little, waving his hand as if to dismiss a joke.]

Okay, okay, we don't. Anyway, that's about it. We're going to give everyone one minute to get to the first table, then we'll blow the whistle and let everyone start. Thanks for coming, have a great time!

[They go back to sitting at their host table, and then, after the minute passes and everyone's settled, the whistle is blown. BEGIN!]

[ Ash smiles brightly back and nods his head. ]

Yeah! There's a lotta people here today, aren't there? There's some good food here too!

[ Pikachu agrees cheerfully with the latter, giving out a happy 'pika!' after Ash is done talking. ]
risingwinds: (scritch scritch scritch)

[personal profile] risingwinds 2014-08-04 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Like the cookies?

[Ven laughs sheepishly, digging into his pocket.]

I grabbed a couple extra if you want 'em. Figure it might save a few trips to the table.

[Here, he'll even hold one out for Pikachu, just in case.]

[personal profile] friendshipfirst 2014-08-15 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, they're really great!

[ Though arguably they aren't the best cookies he's had they're still really good and was more than happy to hear that Ven brought some. ]

If y' don't mind me havin' some, thanks!

[ Pikachu takes the cookie and gives Ven a thanks in his own language before taking a small bite. There's then a small squeal because wow these cookies are pretty good! ]
risingwinds: (terra terra can I keep the fish?)

[personal profile] risingwinds 2014-08-16 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
[That squeal alone melts Ven's heart. Not that it's a difficult task. Ven's about as soft as a stick of cotton candy, and without even thinking, he reaches out to pat Pikachu on the head.]

He sure is a cute little guy. Hard to believe that something so small could carry all that electrical power.

[At least, if Linda's any indication. Maybe it's different between Pikachus?]

[personal profile] friendshipfirst 2014-08-17 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
[ Pikachu will accept the pat on the head while he munches on the cookie some more, giving Ven another happy 'pika' in thanks for the pat. ]

Yeah. Not only is Pikachu cute but he's really strong too.

[ If Team Rocket's obession is any indication there is. Ash's Pikachu seems to be the ability to pack in more electrical power than the average Pikachu. ]
risingwinds: (eager)

[personal profile] risingwinds 2014-08-18 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
Remind me not to get on his bad side. If his shocks are anything like a Yellow Mustard's, then I'd probably get fried.

[It's said in jest, followed by a burst of laughter.]

But if you ask me, Thunder's one of the coolest powers out there. I'm more of a wind kinda guy, but it definitely comes in handy in a pinch.
friendshipfirst: (☆ i r o n t a i l)

[personal profile] friendshipfirst 2014-08-22 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
A Yellow Mustard? What's that? I don't think Pikachu's shocks are that bad. He never tries to really hurt anyone intentionally.

[ When he's controlled and have his power up then yeah but other than that nah? Totally something Ash is used to. ]

Yeah, I agree! Electric moves are really powerful and can take out a lot! But you shouldn't underestimate attacks that use the wind either.
risingwinds: (scritch scritch scritch)

[personal profile] risingwinds 2014-08-23 08:58 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, they're these monsters called Unversed.

[His face scrunches up just thinking about 'em, really.]

But those kind are sorta like floating pots, I guess. Bright yellow, with red eyes. And they shoot lightning. And lots of it!

[He shudders.]

Good news is, they're small enough that a little Aero magic's all it takes to break their focus. And by Aero I mean wind.
friendshipfirst: (Default)

[personal profile] friendshipfirst 2014-08-27 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
Unversed?

[ Although from Ven scrunching up his face Ash can guess that they aren't good monsters that are being talked about. ]

Wow, I wonder how different their lightning is compared to Pikachu's electricity. But that's really cool that Aero magic can break their focus. In my world a lot of attacks that use the wind are flying types and they aren't really effective against electric Pokemon.
risingwinds: (Default)

[personal profile] risingwinds 2014-08-30 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm... well, that kinda makes sense. Even a Tornado spell's not gonna hurt somebody as much as hitting them with fire, lightning, or ice. They're good for knocking people around, but I've never had much luck using 'em on really big monsters...

[Like those pesky gorilla Unversed in Neverland. Ugh...]

Anyway, Unversed are these monsters that're made outta negative emotions and stuff. I guess they're kinda like Pokémon, 'cause they come in lots of different shapes and sizes, and they do have different kinds of attacks. They're just... not as friendly. Not by a longshot.
friendshipfirst: (☆ f i r e f a n g)

[personal profile] friendshipfirst 2014-09-03 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
Yea. Now that I think 'bout it I don't think I really have either. Maybe a few times, but I know Pikachu's Thunderbolt has taken out a lotta things.

[ Not that it's a surprise of anything considering how close the two are. ]

Ehh, really? That's kinda sad that they aren't as friendly as Pokemon can be. And to be made out of negative emotions. I mean... does that mean ya can't become friends with any of 'em?
risingwinds: (disappointed)

[personal profile] risingwinds 2014-09-04 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[He nods, frowning at the thought.]

I mean, there's this one type of Unversed called Prize Pods that aren't too bad. They mostly just float around, and if you hit 'em, you can get ice cream ingredients!

But other than those guys, they're all really dangerous. 'Course, it doesn't help that they come from a dangerous guy.
friendshipfirst: (☆ e a r t h q u a k e)

[personal profile] friendshipfirst 2014-09-17 08:55 am (UTC)(link)
[ Ash tilts his head at the thought ]

Ehh, ice cream ingredients? I've never heard o' anything that would drop things like that before!

But... whadya mean that come from a dangerous guy?
risingwinds: (Could you repeat that?)

[personal profile] risingwinds 2014-09-17 09:08 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly what it sounds like. The Unversed are like emotions given form, and feelings don't pop outta thin air.

[His hand slides over his heart and curls into a fist.]

And, well, those feelings came straight from a guy named Vanitas. I just never learned the truth 'til I came here.
friendshipfirst: (☆ e n d u r e)

[personal profile] friendshipfirst 2014-09-20 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
So these monsters are made out of negative emotions then? Are there any kind made outta positive emotions?

[ He then frowns.]

That's.... really sad. Why does he have those feelings?
risingwinds: (disappointed)

[personal profile] risingwinds 2014-09-22 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm... Well, maybe the Prize Pods. They're those ice cream guys I told you about.

[As for why he has them, Ven's face falls, and he slumps over in his seat.]

If I had to guess, it's 'cause he's made outta pure darkness. My Master always told me that darkness usually manifests itself from negative feelings, like anger, fear, or pride, and Vanitas definitely has a bad attitude.
friendshipfirst: (☆ r o c k c l i m b)

[personal profile] friendshipfirst 2014-09-26 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
Really? Then I wonder if ya can befriend them somehow.

[ Befriending Prize Pods yes that should totally be a thing.

But seeing Ven's face fall causes Ash's own face to fall. ]

I don't completely understand, but it must be hard. Is there anything you can do?
risingwinds: (scritch scritch scritch)

[personal profile] risingwinds 2014-09-29 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm, well, they seem friendly enough! Kinda shy, though.

[Which has to be why they always run away whenever they're spotted. Hunting ice cream ingredients shouldn't be this tough!]

And, y'see, I tried stopping him before. Actually, Vanitas was in Luceti for more than a year, and before he left, I thought I was finally breaking through to him.

[But then he had to leave, and at that, he sighs deeply.]

Guess all I can do is hope that if he does show up again, I'll be able to hold him back. But he's one of those guys who only cares about himself. Trying to get him to play nice is like telling a waterfall to flow backwards.

[...]

...Or something like that.
friendshipfirst: (☆ p r o t e c t)

[personal profile] friendshipfirst 2014-10-04 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm, maybe ya just gotta be patient with 'em.

[ Yep that is totally the reason not because of the ingredients inside them. ]

But he can't be completely all bad, even if he's made outta darkness. So if he ever does come back you can try breakin' through to him again and find that good spot. I mean ... there's usually a reason when people just care 'bout themselves, right?

[ a pause ]

And it can't just be 'cause he's made outta darkness.
