Speed Dating Year 2

[Much like last year, the rec center is decorated and freshly cleaned, with a plethora set up throughout the main floor. Each set includes a small table and two chairs facing each other. Along with number plates to help direct people to their partners, there is a small pile of coloured paper cards, stacked down, and pencils on every table.

Further back there is a collection of couches forming a lounging circle, as well as a couple of tables with drinks and snacks all set up and ready to be eaten. And yes, the fantastic rainbow cookies from the year before have made a reappearance. No doubt they'll disappear just as fast. The lounge area has a recycled sign from last year that says, "If you find yourself on a turn without a date, come hang out!", and this year, a new weird-looking potato man is hanging on the wall. ...But whatever.

All in all, the whole place looks ready for a big event, and when enough people have gathered - and the clock ticks to the agreed starting time - Teddy and Billy step forward to get things moving at last.]



Hey, hey! Announcement time here! Can everyone hear me? [...] All right, good!

So, some of you may remember this from last year. If you didn't come then, or if you're new, or happened to get roped into this by one of your friends, then on behalf of... uh...

[He glances down at Billy and, taking the cue, his partner speaks up.]

...We'll call the name a work-in-progress for now. Kurt says he's got it covered.

[His response is a raised eyebrow, because really, Kurt? But Teddy gets right back on track with a smile after that.] … Welcome to the second annualish speed dating event! I'm Teddy, this is my fiancé Billy, and we'll be your hosts for today. I know you just want to get started already, but unfortunately, we've got to go over the rules and stuff first. Everyone should have a list of numbers. When Billy gives the signal, everyone will head to the table with the first number on your list, where you'll either wait for or meet up with the person you're paired with. You'll both have five minutes to talk and get to know each other, for better or for worse, and leave with some sort of impression of them. Hopefully good, but can't win 'em all, right? After those five minutes, one of us will blow the whistle, and then you'll head to the table with the next number on your list. Repeat steps one through whatever, until we've reached the end! Hopefully by then, you'll have a new friend, a potential date, or hey, you might have just met the new love of your life!

[Teddy looks to Billy then, who speaks up next to him.]

The tables have conversation cards, in case you're not sure how to get things rolling, or if you're feeling shy- it has topic ideas, questions to ask your partner, whatever we could come up with. As you go through the list, try to give a little 'yes' or 'no' to the people you speak to- yes for wanting to see them again, no for it not being a good match. Once it's over just hand in your papers and we'll let everyone know - discretely, of course! - who gave and received a mutual yes. You don't have to wait for us, though- if you hit it off with someone really well and you both want to hang out right away, don't let us stop you. We have games and stuff set up over in the lounge area-

[He gestures to aforementioned lounge, complete with couches, a couple of tables, a stack of assorted games, and a snack and drink table.]

-Or you could just sneak off to keep yourselves entertained. We don't judge.

We totally do judge, just so you know.

[Billy elbows him. Gosh, boyfriend, behave.

Teddy just laughs a little, waving his hand as if to dismiss a joke.]

Okay, okay, we don't. Anyway, that's about it. We're going to give everyone one minute to get to the first table, then we'll blow the whistle and let everyone start. Thanks for coming, have a great time!

[They go back to sitting at their host table, and then, after the minute passes and everyone's settled, the whistle is blown. BEGIN!]

Pilouette

[Pilouette was a little unsure of signing up at all. However, at Rin's urging, she did it anyway. She's been trying to keep busy and well, maybe it would be good to meet some new people. Since she just signed up to make friends, she didn't think to wear anything especially nice or formal, but when she looks around, she can't help but feel woefully under-dressed in comparison to some other people. After all, her regular clothes are...pretty plain.

She fiddles a little with the cards on the table, ready to greet anyone who approaches her. However, as sleep doesn't come to her as easily as it used to, every once in a while one might find her sitting asleep in her chair. At least she's not snoring or anything no she might be snoring though.

[ When Rin sees the feminine form at the table in front of him some part of hm can't help but think "oh man not again..." but then he sees that the form dozing a little at the table is, in fact, Pilouette, the very person he'd urged to come here. He hasn't been feeling 100% himself all this time either, and seeing her sleeping makes him yawn - which he tries to make lighter than it is, so when he sits across from her...

... He decides to not wake her, and instead just lay his head down too ]

[Not too long after Rin settles down at the table, Pilouette flops over face down onto the table. She snorts a little as she starts awake, mumbling a groggy "Sorry, sorry" to whoever might be across from her. She rubs her eyes and, after a moment, realizes who's in front of her and what he's doing. She reaches over and gently shakes him, though she's still a bit sleepy herself.]

Hey...Hey...! Geez, I didn't like, sleep through a whole round or something, did I...?

[rashness]

[ Hey Pils, want to know a secret?

Rin sleeps with his eyes open. So when he rolls his head, not awake, because of being shaken there, he's now staring at her with dead fish eyes ]

[She can't help but recoil a little bit. Jesus H. Crackers, how horrifying. Once she recovers from the momentary shock, she waves her hand in front of his face.

Nothing.

He's breathing at least, so that's good. She considers just going back to sleep herself but that could result in the both of them napping right through the next round and can't imagine that would be terribly polite to everyone else who showed up.

She starts drumming her fingers on the table next to his face.]

Rin, come on. Wake up...!

[rashness]

C'mon give me... five more... hours...

[ Hours . . . ]

We don't have five hours...! Come on!

[She reaches over and lightly pulls on one of his ears.]

If you sleep too long, you'll end up keeping someone else waiting...!

She is on Lee's list too! Some things apparently didn't copy-paste right

[Maybe she'll feel better about her wardrobe compared to this guy. Lee is wearing his green jumpsuit and flak jacket as always, and he's also toting a large backpack that is full of flowers and flower petals.

Lee runs up to this table late and finds Pilouette knocked out at her chair. Quickly, he rushes over to her and shouts.]

Please, don't die!!!

Wh- Huh!?

[As peaceful as her little nap was, Lee's shouting is enough to jolt her awake. She bolts up out of her chair and, in her surprised half-groggy state, she loses her balance and ends up toppling over backwards along with the chair.

If she wasn't dying before, she's probably dying now. Thanks for that heart attack, Lee.]

Oww...!!

No worries!

No! [He cries out as she collapses.] Please let me save you! [And now he leans over to try to lift the chair and upright it.]

[She shakes her head a little as if to clear it, still a bit disoriented.]

Save m-? No, no, I'm fine! Like, I'm okay, really!!

[She waves around one of her arms to show how functional and totally fine she is.]

Are you truly well?! As your assigned partner for this round, I am concerned for your general wellbeing! [If she's not on the chair when he uprights it, he will hold out a hand!]

[She takes his hand and stands up, just a little wobbly. She smiles, just a little sheepishly.]

Y-Yeah, I'm fine. I guess I just kind of like, dozed off or something. [She pauses, briefly.] Um, thanks, though.

You are on Sokka's list too. Hooray?

[Sokka isn't super dressed up himself either. He's dressed up perhaps a little nicer than his standard fare—some nice blue long pants and a shirt with fur trim on the edges—though he's probably closer to Pilouette than to the some of the rest of the crowd. Or at least he thinks so. Nonetheless, he takes a look at his card, matches the number and realizes he's at the right place.

He offers Pilouette a broad grin and a firm handshake.]

Hey, I'm Sokka. It's good to meet you.

[Pilouette is quick to shake his hand and smile in return. Finally, someone who hasn't caught her asleep. She's pretty sure she's embarrassed herself enough for one day.]

Um, I'm Pilouette. Likewise. So, um...having a good time so far? [She glances around the crowded space as the buzz of a myriad of different conversations fills the room.] It's like, a little crazy sometimes, huh?

[It could be worse, Pilouette; Sokka caught someone who started out underneath the table.]

Pilouette, that's a name that I've not heard before. But, yeah, this is been surprisingly fun. I've never done anything like this before, and it's kind of a whirlwind jumping from table to table. [There are SO many people; half the challenge is making sure you end up at the right table.]

How about you? Having fun?

[Pilouette decides not to mention the fact that even back home her name was kind of unusual.]

Yeah, I'm having a pretty good time, I guess. I did this last year and it looks like just as many people turned out for it this time. A lot of new faces, too, but...Well, I guess that's like, kind of expected considering, you know?

[Sokka looks around the room and nods along with that.]

Yeah, every time I think I've finally met everyone there is in Luceti, I keep finding about 20 more people I haven't met. Then again, I have only been here for two and a half months so... [Really, that's par for the course.]

So tell me about yourself?

[Pilouette takes a moment to think, reaching up and tugging on her hair. She's never been too good at talking about herself like this. After all, what even is there about her that's interesting enough to say?]

Um...Well, I'm eighteen and...I'm studying first aid. I guess I like cooking and walking around in the woods. [She frowns a little. She supposes that in a place like Luceti, even after this long, she's bound to be boring in comparison to everyone else around here. What else, what else...? Well, since he mentioned how long he's been here...] Oh! And, um, I've been here for a couple years now.

[mischiefbreeder]

[Gold comes along and takes a seat across from Pilouette, who appears to be sleeping.

He decides to take this opportunity to have some fun.]

--Hey, wake up! C'mon, my story wasn't that boring, was it?!

[ribbonbon]

[Pilouette snaps awake with a quiet snort, groggily wiping her mouth.]

No, no, it's not boring at a-

[She stops short when she realizes that...that's a little different than "Hello, nice to meet you, wake up please." She doesn't even remember him sitting down! If he was telling her a story, then she must have been awake before, right? It's not like someone would just sit down and start talking to a sleeping person. What kind of a dork is she just falling asleep in the middle of a conversation anyway?! Embarrassed, Pilouette's face goes pink.]

Omigosh! I'm like, so totally sorry! I didn't...! I mean...! Sorry!

[mischiefbreeder]

[He almost feels bad getting her so worked up like this.]

Geez, chill out! It's just a joke, y'know? I just got here.

O-Oh...

[While she's relieved that she did not, in fact, fall asleep in the middle of a conservation, Pilouette is pretty embarrassed that she got taken in so easily. How old is she again? Five? She lets out a sheepish little laugh, trying to seem more at ease than she actually is.]

Still, I feel kinda bad for like, just falling asleep like that. I couldn't even say hi or whatever. [...She should probably do that. She extends her hand for a handshake, nervously reaching up with her free hand and fiddling with hair.] So, um, hi. I'm Pilouette. Um, nice to meet you.

The name's Gold. [He holds out his hand in turn for the handshake.] Try not to fall asleep on me again.

R-Right, right. I think I'm like, I'm pretty awake now, anyway.

[Well, since she's here to meet people, she may ask well as him a question or two, right?]
