Speed Dating Year 2

Who: Anyone who wants/is forced to come
What: Speed Dating!
When: Today (Saturday) afternoon-ish
Where: The Rec Center
Summary: Details here, Roster here!
Rating: PG/13/T/R/god I don't know there's too many people

[Much like last year, the rec center is decorated and freshly cleaned, with a plethora set up throughout the main floor. Each set includes a small table and two chairs facing each other. Along with number plates to help direct people to their partners, there is a small pile of coloured paper cards, stacked down, and pencils on every table.

Further back there is a collection of couches forming a lounging circle, as well as a couple of tables with drinks and snacks all set up and ready to be eaten. And yes, the fantastic rainbow cookies from the year before have made a reappearance. No doubt they'll disappear just as fast. The lounge area has a recycled sign from last year that says, "If you find yourself on a turn without a date, come hang out!", and this year, a new weird-looking potato man is hanging on the wall. ...But whatever.

All in all, the whole place looks ready for a big event, and when enough people have gathered - and the clock ticks to the agreed starting time - Teddy and Billy step forward to get things moving at last.]

Hey, hey! Announcement time here! Can everyone hear me? [...] All right, good!

So, some of you may remember this from last year. If you didn't come then, or if you're new, or happened to get roped into this by one of your friends, then on behalf of... uh...

[He glances down at Billy and, taking the cue, his partner speaks up.]

...We'll call the name a work-in-progress for now. Kurt says he's got it covered.

[His response is a raised eyebrow, because really, Kurt? But Teddy gets right back on track with a smile after that.] … Welcome to the second annualish speed dating event! I'm Teddy, this is my fiancé Billy, and we'll be your hosts for today. I know you just want to get started already, but unfortunately, we've got to go over the rules and stuff first. Everyone should have a list of numbers. When Billy gives the signal, everyone will head to the table with the first number on your list, where you'll either wait for or meet up with the person you're paired with. You'll both have five minutes to talk and get to know each other, for better or for worse, and leave with some sort of impression of them. Hopefully good, but can't win 'em all, right? After those five minutes, one of us will blow the whistle, and then you'll head to the table with the next number on your list. Repeat steps one through whatever, until we've reached the end! Hopefully by then, you'll have a new friend, a potential date, or hey, you might have just met the new love of your life!

[Teddy looks to Billy then, who speaks up next to him.]

The tables have conversation cards, in case you're not sure how to get things rolling, or if you're feeling shy- it has topic ideas, questions to ask your partner, whatever we could come up with. As you go through the list, try to give a little 'yes' or 'no' to the people you speak to- yes for wanting to see them again, no for it not being a good match. Once it's over just hand in your papers and we'll let everyone know - discretely, of course! - who gave and received a mutual yes. You don't have to wait for us, though- if you hit it off with someone really well and you both want to hang out right away, don't let us stop you. We have games and stuff set up over in the lounge area-

[He gestures to aforementioned lounge, complete with couches, a couple of tables, a stack of assorted games, and a snack and drink table.]

-Or you could just sneak off to keep yourselves entertained. We don't judge.

We totally do judge, just so you know.

[Billy elbows him. Gosh, boyfriend, behave.

Teddy just laughs a little, waving his hand as if to dismiss a joke.]

Okay, okay, we don't. Anyway, that's about it. We're going to give everyone one minute to get to the first table, then we'll blow the whistle and let everyone start. Thanks for coming, have a great time!

[They go back to sitting at their host table, and then, after the minute passes and everyone's settled, the whistle is blown. BEGIN!]

(( ooc: directions are as follows:

I keep forgetting about the Art Club... despite the fact that Aang runs it. Or, I think he runs it? I really should go to it one day, get back in the habit of painting. But yeah, sure, I could show you what I know someday.

[He sighs a bit when the topic veers back towards the bears.]

Yeah, everyone keeps telling me that as if it's obvious. But the animals here aren't like anything from back home. We've got koala sheep, turtle ducks, polar bear dogs, and elephant koi. There's only one just bear, and he's the Earth King's pet.
ribbonbon: (Uh...)

[personal profile] ribbonbon 2014-09-06 08:42 am (UTC)(link)
[Her eyes widen in surprise as she leans forward a bit. Koala sheep? Turtle ducks? What?]

So, wait, there's like...just one bear? Just the one? Anywhere? And like, what's a koala sheep? I mean, I've heard of koalas and sheep before, but...

[It's gotta be cute, right? As someone who likes animals (mostly), she's pretty interested in this. She supposes she shouldn't be so terribly surprised, but...well, she is.]
theideaguy: (indifferent)

Here we go again!

[personal profile] theideaguy 2014-09-06 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[Sokka is getting very used to this spiel by now.]

Yeah, the Earth King was trying to find another one to keep Bosco company, but if you'd told me that there was just a bear before I met him, I'd have said you were crazy. Apparently most of the animals from our world are hybrids of your animals. We don't have just koalas or just sheep for the most part.

But the koala sheep are pretty cute, if you're into that thing. Big fluffy bodies with furry faces and big ears. They don't don't mind humans at all. You can practically use them as gigantic pillows if you wanted to sleep on them. Docile and pretty lethargic.
ribbonbon: (I need to think about this)

[personal profile] ribbonbon 2014-09-08 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
...That's so cool...!! I mean, it sounds like they don't act too differently from sheep where I come from, but they sound way way more cute!

[She's doing her best to picture a koala sheep based on his description and she's really liking what her mind is conjuring up.]

It kind of like, blows my mind, though. Like, your world has the animals that my world has, but they're like, comboanimals? They're like, the same but totally different, too...except for like, one bear. ...It's kinda funny when you really think about it, huh?

[Maybe not funny "ha ha," but still.]
theideaguy: (lazy)

[personal profile] theideaguy 2014-09-10 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
[Yeah, not exactly funny "ha ha," but yes. Still.]

It's definitely... funny, in a way, I suppose. Still it's still kinda strange. It seems like it's only my world that has these... "comboanimals," to use your word, but... I guess that works?

And yeah, the koala sheep are probably won't of the cuter animals. I'd say they'd be fun to have as a pet, but really... they really just don't do much except sit around and sleep most of the day.
ribbonbon: (I need to think about this)

[personal profile] ribbonbon 2014-09-11 08:38 am (UTC)(link)
If only your world has them, then maybe the rest of us just have like...splitanimals or something. It still kind of like, blows my mind hearing about all these animals from different worlds. It's like there's always something new popping up...

[From Pokémon to multicolored talking ponies, it never gets old to her.]

It sounds like Koalasheep don't act much differently from regular sheep, really. I mean, I've only seen sheep in like, petting zoos or whatever, but...stuff like this makes me wonder just how much separates different worlds and stuff, you know? Like, if the animals are just different versions of other animals, I wonder what else might be just different versions of other stuff...

[She said, without stopping to consider whether or not that even made sense.]
theideaguy: (excited)

[personal profile] theideaguy 2014-09-13 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
Well, they're probably... somewhat related. Most of the bear-like creatures we have in our world apparently act similar to just bears here... so maybe that's the connection?

[For as much as Sokka had thought about it, he'd never quite gotten to that point.]

But yeah, there's always some other new world out there that's weirder than everything else we've seen so far, isn't it? To think there's been people who've gone to space in their worlds. That's sounds like something interesting to do!
ribbonbon: (a tiny bit of happiness)

[personal profile] ribbonbon 2014-09-15 08:30 am (UTC)(link)
Right, right? Like, before I came here, I didn't think magic was like, even real at all. Where I'm from magic only exists in books and stories and stuff. ...We have like, space travel, though. Even then not very many people have done it.

...Sometimes I still get like, thrown off when something that's totally normal to me is like, new and amazing to someone else.
theideaguy: (cocky)

[personal profile] theideaguy 2014-09-16 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
That's exactly it! When someone told me they had a ship that explored space... I think my jaw hit the floor! I mean... we can barely even fly as it is, and... going all the way up there! [He points to the ceiling in amazement.]

I guess that makes all the weirdness of this place okay, that some of that weirdness is kind of awesome.
ribbonbon: (Smile)

[personal profile] ribbonbon 2014-09-17 09:14 am (UTC)(link)
...I guess that's a pretty good point. If I hadn't come here, there's a lot of stuff I wouldn't have seen. [Or been through or learned.] Maybe it's true that every cloud has a silver lining!

[Though...she still thinks that the cloud to lining ratio in this case is pretty unbalanced.]
theideaguy: (concerned)

[personal profile] theideaguy 2014-09-18 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
[Sokka wouldn't disagree with that observation, not at all.]

Or people we wouldn't have met, even though a few of them are kinda weird and a little bit jerkish. It'd be nice to have the pluses of this world without the minuses of some group trying to kill us. But what can you do?

[Certainly not a lot about that.]
ribbonbon: (Aw gee)

[personal profile] ribbonbon 2014-09-18 09:06 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that part is a...pretty big minus.

[Her particular encounters with the Third Party had definitely been less than plesant and she's not eager to be on the battlefield again. She wonders sometimes if all the excitement and amazement of new things is worth it...]

...I guess I am pretty glad that I've met all the people I have. Even the ones that like, were kind of weird and stuff.
theideaguy: (creative)

[personal profile] theideaguy 2014-09-18 09:15 am (UTC)(link)
[Sokka would like to say that it's all worth it all in all, but (a) he hasn't come face to face with the Third Party yet, and (b) that sounds a lot like the heresy that an optimist might say.]

Yeah, I think I agree with that. I mean, I still don't know well more than half of the people in Luceti, which is why I'm here, but just today I've met quite a few that'd be worth hanging out with in the future.
ribbonbon: (a tiny bit of happiness)

[personal profile] ribbonbon 2014-09-19 08:28 am (UTC)(link)
Me, too! To be honest, I don't really know most of the people here even with how long I've been around, so I'm really glad to get a chance like this to just like, mingle and stuff. [She never was good with meeting people or making friends.] It's too bad we only get five minutes to talk, but maybe we'll get a chance to talk again sometime!

[In a small village like this, she's almost sure they will.]
theideaguy: (smirky)

[personal profile] theideaguy 2014-09-20 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
It's certainly why I came. [He stands up because he hears the dinging of the bell, signifying that it certainly is time.] Though technically, it's only five minutes now. It's not like there's that much time that we can't make more time later on. So I'd say you can count on it. Provided of course...

[Provided of course that she's going to mark his name down on the paper afterwards of people to contact later. He certainly will.]
