Where: The riverside, south of the village
Summary: After several birthdays had passed, a birthday PARTY is arranged for those who missed theirs. At the river!

[With the help of Toph and Roku (and possibly others), the party had been set up south of the village. There were cakes, party tables, and seats out for everyone. It wasn't really a traditional Water Tribe party by any means, because it was meant for more than one person, after all. But it was by the river and swimming opportunities there. Sokka even set up a net and poles for volleyball. Nami and Roku knew to be there, but of course, Sokka has to get here there still...]

[She waves back, holding a small package in her other hand.]

Happy birthday, Katara. Are you having fun at your party?

Yes! It's such a surprise - [laughs] - I didn't even know it was my birthday! You should come have some cake!

[Because she put hers aside to come and talk with you, and man it was good. So she'll just be leading her back towards the table if Diana indicates that she'll follow along.]

[She follows, but she hesitates a little. She doesn't want to intrude.]

I brought you a gift. [Diana hands Katara the neatly-wrapped package, with two small yet elegant hair pins (http://pics.hoobly.com/full/J9GEEU1I3KMBET4X6B.jpg) inside.] I noticed that you didn't wear much jewelry, but I think these would look beautiful against your hair.

[This is a party! It's impossible to intrude!

Katara takes the package.] Oh, you really didn't have to do that...

[And upon opening it, she gasps.]

Oh, they're beautiful. [And she can't help but be reminded, for a moment, of the necklace Aang made for her out of thread and fishing twine - and it's a sharp pain of love and missing that passes right through her, as she lifts wide and woobley eyes to meet Diana's gaze.

Nothing holds Katara back from stepping forward and giving her a quick hug of thanks.] Thank you so much! I love them.

[Diana returns the hug, squeezing tightly before pulling away and placing her hands on Katara's shoulders.]

You're very welcome.

[She colors very lightly under the directness of Diana's gaze and the implied sincerity of the older woman's assessment.

She gave her a present. Special days are hard, birthdays especially, for the people in Katara's life that she misses, and this is her seventh birthday without her mom.]

Um - how do you wear them? I've never seen pins like this before.

[She can relate with missing her mother. Diana has just reconciled with her mother after years of no communication before being taken here.]

You can just insert them in your hair -- ponytails, buns; it doesn't matter. They're more for decoration than anything convenient, unfortunately.

Oh. [So she takes them and inserts them on the same side of her hair - a little above and diagonally down from her hair loopies.]

[See this? This is a smile of approval.] Perfect.

[She beams.]

Thank you, again. Would you like something to eat while you're here? Sanji and Regal both made the cakes, so they're delicious!

Well, shame on me if I turn down the chance to eat cake...

[And so Katara leads her over to the food table.]

This one's vanilla with whipped cream, and this one's vanilla with nuts... That one's orange flavored.

And there's ice cream in the cooler over there, if you'd rather have something chocolate! [She's aware that these cakes have been made - more or less - for her preference, and she feels bad that people who would normally want chocolate can't have it in their cake, and she's especially anxious that Diana would be able to have something she enjoys.]

[Wut. All of them look and sound delicious. She doesn't want to decide...so she takes a slice of each cake. Hey, she's a woman who likes her food.]

Maybe I'll get ice cream later.

[Katara doesn't blink at the taking of all three cakes. She knows she plans to at least try all three of them, even if she isn't usually one for sweets.]

Sounds good! [She will lead them slightly away from the table now.] So, I heard you went out into the desert - how did that trip go?

It went well. Unfortunately, there wasn't much difference with the temple structure from the last time it was explored. [She takes a bite out of one of the cakes.] But at least I learned a little more about this place.

Like what? I've never been out to the desert.

There's not really very much to find in the desert, but right at the edge of the barrier, you'll stumble upon the aforementioned ruins. It's a temple -- no one knows for whom. It seems to have served as a base to an organization called the Third Party. [She wasn't here yet when the Third Party revealed themselves to the general population, so unfortunately she isn't an expert on the matter.]

[She sobers a bit at the Third Party, remembering the recording of Jacob's 'sacrifice.']

Whatever god or spirit the Third Party worships... I want no part of it. But they might just be using the temple because it was already there, not because it means anything to them.

Back home, the Air Nomads lived in temples. After they were killed, the temples were abandoned for a hundred years. But when we were traveling with Aang, we visited each of them - and we found that in one of them some Earth Kingdom villagers had taken it over, because they thought they'd be safe from the Fire Nation there.

[This conversation is getting too serious for Diana's liking. It's this girl's birthday, for Hera's sake.]

I hope they did find refuge there. [A pause as she moves to her next piece of cake.] On a lighter note, I must say that this cake is divine.

[She brightens.]

Sanji made it! I think the orange one if my favorite. But I like the one from the bakery too.
