Birthday Parties!

What: Birthday parties!
When: July 4th (a smidge backdated)
Where: The riverside, south of the village
Summary: After several birthdays had passed, a birthday PARTY is arranged for those who missed theirs. At the river!

[With the help of Toph and Roku (and possibly others), the party had been set up south of the village. There were cakes, party tables, and seats out for everyone. It wasn't really a traditional Water Tribe party by any means, because it was meant for more than one person, after all. But it was by the river and swimming opportunities there. Sokka even set up a net and poles for volleyball. Nami and Roku knew to be there, but of course, Sokka has to get here there still...]

Well... hey. [He starts working on pulling the net down from the poles.] So... I guess you've been just communing with nature and stuff lately, right?

[a broad smirk] Ehh, I suppose you could say that. No more than usual.

[he looks around curiously at the decorations as they come down] Seems I'm back to making up things to do. You?

[One of these days he was gonna have to tell Ginko about the crazy swamp guy they met. He was a lot like Ginko, only Ginko wore pants. So maybe they weren't that similar.]

Oh, you know how it is. Training and keeping my head low from the latest big bad guys that have popped up.

He guesses that you mean whoever was behind hurting Nami and taking Noel-- but there's no reason to bring it up here, today]

Mm. I guess you couldn't train too much, in this place.

I've been training pretty much every day for the last month. [Coincidentally around the time he decided he didn't like Sanji anymore. What a strange coincidence that is.] I've picked up some pretty impressive moves.

And how is fighting done in your world-- outside of bending? Or maybe you've been picking up new techniques. [he remembers hearing a request to that effect]

Like anywhere else, it seems like. We haven't invented guns in our world, but we've got swords and other weapons. [And he's sure Ginko has noticed that Sokka is only very rarely without his sword on hand.] So it's mostly techniques, yeah. It's not like I can learn any magic. Besides the Luceti kind, anyway.

[slight smile] I've found that comes in pretty handy, by itself.

But it must be quite an opportunity, really. To learn techniques from other worlds. Certainly would be something to take home.

Yeah, it kind of is. Too bad we don't get to take anything home, huh?

[a dissatisfied hum. He's never going to get used to that idea-- or quite accept it until he knows for sure how things work.]

[Or we won't find out. Because we won't even know. But Sokka isn't feeling terribly pessimistic at the moment. And this is a horrible subject for after a birthday party. They can be depressing in a few days when Roku leaves.]

Ehhh? [......curious. What do you mean by "cake" and why is it sliced? ] ...what is that, exactly?

[Sokka grins and shakes his head.]

Here, follow me. [At one of the tables still up, with the stuff that's going back to the house, there's a few slices of cake of the chocolate variety.] Regal made it. You should try some.

But wut. This is... odd-looking. Not quite so much, now that he's been force fed eaten at the SH house a few times, now... but.] Huh.

Never had anything quite like that.

[Aww. Sokka thought he had it right.]

Really sweet. We don't have anything like this at home either. It's pretty good though. [Sokka can only eat so much of it though. His tolerance for sugary stuff only goes so far. It's the only reason there's leftovers at all.]

Huhhh. [he can eat a little of it. And then that exhausts his own tolerance.] Interesting.

What sorts of food do you have at home?

Well, it's the South Pole. So our three staple foods are meat, fish, and more meat. Sometimes though, if we're wanting to go all out, we'll have meat and fish at the same time.

Hm. [smirk] Not so different. Just replace meat with rice, maybe. [Sanji tells him this is comparatively unusual].

Have a favorite food here you'd never had before?

[He thinks about that for a second.]

When I first started working at the smithy, Elisa introduced me to sandwiches. But not just regular bread and meat. She put a spicy vegetable called jalapenos on it. I didn't think they were that great at first, now I pretty much each them every day I'm at the smithy.

[It's kind of a sentimental thing. And he just likes them.]
