(no subject)
Who: Frontliners, Infiltrators, Kidnappees (See here for info)
What: The attack on the base!
When: October 11th (all day)
Where: Renegade Malnosso Facility
Rating: Varies on thread!
It had been over twenty-four hours since the infiltration. The Malnosso were notorious for their long work hours, many pulling twenty hour shifts at any given time. Fortunately, each department had its share of private resting areas with beds to allow the overworked staff - or infiltrators - get some much needed shut eye between tasks. But now there allies were arriving. All the information they had gathered and sabotaged planned was about to go into play. Would they be successful?
As for the kidnapped, John's pill was finally starting to cancel out the effects of the drugs. Already brighter and more alert than before, it would soon be time for their escape and either flee or help their comrades storm the building.
The front line attackers had met with their strategist before the battle and were now positioned in the forested area around the facility, out of sight and mind for the Malnosso inside. All they needed was the sign to attack from their person inside.
----
OOC Notes: Note that when the front liners attack, security checkpoints and Shifting should be disabled. For those curious about Floor 3, there is still no access to it. HOWEVER, there is no longer a Shift protecting it. If any character is reckless or foolish enough to access it, do so while considering the possibility of your character being seriously injured (or even killed!) in what ensues.
To recap: read Albert's OOC marching orders. Security guards are armed with short swords, night sticks, and hand guns. Most have normal human abilities, but higher ranked guards in high security areas will be highly skilled and may possess some amount of superhuman strength and speed. The Malnosso droids/drones all possess superhuman strength and speed. Since everyone is at full power, they are at 'half strength' relative to what people are used to. Brute strength and strong electrical attacks will be effective on them. It's also possible the infiltrators will keep most of them from ever activating to respond to the attack. They are not invincible and with enough effort, people should be able to handle them.
Note: Thanks to the infiltrators, most of the drones have been disabled and won't activate during the alarm. A small number will be present, but no more than twenty at the most.
Finally, going back to Floor 3, there will be a separate thread within the log for that. If someone attempts to enter it after the battle, I'll setup the scenario there for people to interact with.

[action] Current order: Yuan - Rita - Giles - Michael - Yuan
I hear it too... though being a hallucination might be a better fate for the source.
[He glares with displeasure at the writhing mass of flesh coating the dark corridors ahead.]
We can't just leave this as it is though. I'm sure there's hazmat gear somewhere in this building. Figuring out exactly what we're dealing with should help determine if we should brick it up, burn it, or damn the consequences and blow it.
[action] Current order: Yuan - Rita - Giles - Michael - Yuan
He pauses, then pulls his sword out of the ground again. The tentacle has stopped flailing by now and seems to be slowly losing its energy. Perhaps it's dying because it was severed from the other bits of flesh.]
That's no hallucination. If someone else has been in there for this long, it might mean the poison isn't entirely lethal.
[There's still those tentacles to worry about, but if he moves fast enough and severs them instantly, they might not be able to catch him. Sadly, he hasn't noticed yet that they can regenerate.]
I say a few of us go in while the others wait for help to arrive.
[action] Current order: Yuan - Rita - Giles - Michael - Yuan
That's fine and all, but I don't believe the air is going to get any better. There's a chance that whatever that voice is, it's immune to the air here. If anyone does go in though, I can try and cast a spell for a larger area, it may cause a long enough distraction to make it easier to head inside. But if you find anything...
Re: [action] Current order: Yuan - Rita - Giles - Michael - Yuan
[He raises his knife while keeping the barrier up] One or two of us should stay back a bit, though, just in case this goes wrong. The others need to at least know this is here.
[action] Current order: Yuan - Rita - Giles - Michael - Yuan
I don't mind leading the way, but if anything gets in our way, I can do more damage if I've got some distance. Three of us going in would probably be for the best, but if two go, that leaves one for watching the entrance here, and one for searching the rest of the facility for some insurance that whatever is in there will stay there.
[action] Current order: Yuan - Rita - Giles - Michael - Yuan
[It's all about strategizing, really. Yuan has no clue what these other people are best at, but he knows his own strengths and how to utilize them.]
Once she [quick gesture at Rita] casts her spell, I can charge in to clear the remaining obstacles on our path and light the room from the inside with magic.
[action] Current order: Yuan - Rita - Giles - Michael - Yuan
Then it'll make sense if I stay by the entrance. I have the communicator anyways and it would just be a distraction if someone tried to contact us while we were in there. Besides that, when I finish my cast it'll take me a moment to recover and chances are, that thing is going to try and find the source of the attack. That'll give you some time to run in.
She'll hold it there for now and take a step back, concentrating on the position of the area of effect.]
When you're ready, I'll release the spell. It should be enough to distract it for a while. If I can, I'll cast another afterward to keep it distracted. So as long as you stay near the walls, the spell shouldn't hit you.
Re: [action] Current order: Yuan - Rita - Giles - Michael - Yuan
[It's a good distraction. A good, messy, loud distraction, just what they need to draw the thing's attention.
Keeping his barrier up, Giles runs. Compared to the meteor storm, he's small fry. He makes it through the door without getting attacked by the tentacles, and...stops.
Bodies. Bodies in the walls.]
Oh my God...
[But he can't stay still. The floor is shifting and squishing under his feet, and even stopping for a few seconds means it's harder to start up again. And there's movement all around him - he readies his knife for another fight.]
[action] Current order: Yuan - Rita - Giles - Michael - Yuan
Deculture... this is horrific. What could even cause all this??
[He levels his pistol at the base of one of the nearest tentacles, ready to fire.]
[action] Current order: Yuan - Rita - Giles - Michael - Yuan
He jumps aside, slashing through another tentacle along the way before summoning lightning magic to electrocute all the severed, flailing limbs. The spell illuminates the room for roughly five seconds before it flickers out of existence again. Yuan knows he can't stand still for too long, though. Those tentacles might still be on the offense and the floor beneath his feet is awfully suspicious.
He's halfway to Islor, but what about the other two?]
[action] Current order: Yuan - Rita - Giles - Michael - Yuan
Re: [action] Current order: Yuan - Rita - Giles - Michael - Yuan
Yuan's spell illuminates the room, and Giles sees that they aren't alone in here. The noise of their fighting is drawing...things from deeper inside. They're like nothing he's ever seen before, but "horrific" is a good descriptor and they're moving autonomously of the room.]
[action] Current order: Yuan - Rita - Giles - Michael - Yuan
...Still sure we don't want to just blow this building to kingdom-come?
[Throwing his pistol aside, he fluidly swings his rifle upwards and fires at the largest of the creatures, a shambling mass of flesh with no head and little in the way of legs... but what it lacked in certain elements of it's anatomy, it seemed it's massive muscular arms and clawed hands were meant to be some sort of compensation. The shot staggered it, but the creature was far from dead until one... two... three more rounds finally sent it crumpling to the ground, with a gurgling howl like nothing born of nature could make.]
[action] Current order: Yuan - Rita - Giles - Michael - Yuan
Not yet!
[Realizing he can't stand still for too long, he jumps sideways and turns back to sever a few tentacles behind him- didn't he remove those ten seconds ago? Damn, they're regenerating. This is certainly proving more troublesome than he expected it to be.]
We'd better finish what we came here to do and get the hell out again!
[action] Current order: Yuan - Rita - Giles - Michael - Yuan
Re: [action] Current order: Yuan - Rita - Giles - Michael - Yuan
[What looks like the unholy offspring of a hellhound and a gorilla stripped of all flesh comes his way, fast. With an almighty effort, Giles manages to call up some magic and blast it back against the wall. But that doesn't kill it - the thing gets back up, snarls, and lunges.
It gets its teeth into Giles' shoulder, but Giles gets its knife into the thing's throat, and minus copious amounts of blood that's the end of it.
Gritting his teeth against the pain, Giles calls back to the others]
I can try and shield us for another couple of minutes, but after that I'll be finished.
[action] Current order: Yuan - Rita - Giles - Michael - Yuan
Sounds like our forth is at least keeping the path of retreat clear. These things might take something along the lines of her first spell to soften up first, though.
[action] Current order: Yuan - Rita - Giles - Michael - Yuan
I'm going further in.
[One last slice at the creatures, then he starts sprinting ahead. If Giles can only keep up the shield for so long, there's no point in lingering anywhere for more than a few seconds. He's headed straight for Islor, narrowly avoiding the tentacles and other nasty things that are snapping at him.]
Re: [action] Current order: Yuan - Rita - Giles - Michael - Yuan
Rita's meteor storm manages to seriously wound and kill a lot of the smaller monsters, but the larger ones - the ones he can barely stand to look at without wanting to gouge his eyes out - it only gives them pause.
Giles throws all his energy into the barrier - anything that wants to get at Michael and Rita is doing to have to work for it. He plants his feet against the shifting ground and waits for the next attack]
[action] Current order: Yuan - Rita - Giles - Michael - Yuan
Ammunition was becoming something of a premium after fighting all day... but the gambit pays out, and after finishing his first magazine and emptying a second besides, two more have hit the ground, And the rest look either unwilling or unable to turn and pursue Yuan.]
[action] Current order: Yuan - Rita - Giles - Michael - Yuan
Finally, he reaches the scientist, who's muttering swiftly under his breath and doesn't pay much notice to Yuan's presence. Time to get some answers. ... Well, vague shreds of information, anyway.]
[action] Current order: Yuan - Rita - Giles - Michael - Yuan
Hey, you! Jump!
A column of earth comes jutting up repeatedly through the living floor. It should at least stun the thing. The spell lasts about 4 seconds.]
Re: [action] Current order: Yuan - Rita - Giles - Michael - Yuan
[action] Current order: Yuan - Rita - Giles - Michael - Yuan
Hey, found anything up ahead yet?! A way to permanently kill off these tentacles would be nice!
[action] Current order: Yuan - Rita - Giles - Michael - Yuan
The researcher is still trying to detach himself from the wall, but it's obviously in vain. As much as Yuan would like to free him, he can see that the man's body is already beyond saving. Instead, he tries to gather as much information as he can. A "powerful Shift", a "temporal freeze", an accident... And who is this woman he tried to stop? Islor's ramblings are barely coherent and as much as Yuan tries to get the man to elaborate, nothing comes of it. Whatever happened to him, it can't have been pretty.
Best to put him out of his suffering now, before the other two arrive on the scene and try to show 'mercy'. No, forcing this man to live any longer would be anything but merciful. After slipping Islor's ID tag into his pocket, Yuan runs his sword through the researcher's chest. Apparently, this is what he wanted as well.]
