Summary: The Malnosso are testing their experiments still. Maybe they should just reuse the same test subjects in new ways? Well, who's it going to hurt? No one that matters.

That would hurt, it's so cold the water must be ice! Water turns into ice when it's too cold, you know, but it's dangerous to walk on it, it may break. Unless you're small and light.

Yes, there have been others. They've been going on for several years now, although I've only lived through a few.

Sorry your first one had to be quite so...unpleasant.

[Seeing it written certainly helps to catch it, it's not a word Ikki had ever to use as of yet anyway.]

The last one was. [An image appears over Giles' head. It's of the village plaza, just darker and...misty.] But this is only my third.

[A light frown at the image, it certainly doesn't look nice but just from a dark image, scary decorations and misty Ikki isn't sure if it would be that bad. But he really can't discuss it, probably seems as something not that bad from where he stands but he wouldn't like to be present at that time exactly.]

So you haven't been here for long either?

There is an experiment each month?

Yes. Every month. It's typically at the end of the month, although since two cycles ago, the normal routines of the place haven't been quite so...routine.

[Since two cycles ago? That confuses him.]

But sometimes the experiments last more than a week. Sometimes they last less. And sometimes they cause damage.

They hurt people? Or the village?

Sometimes one. [The thought bubble shows a bridge in the fog, and a flash of metal followed quickly by a spattering of blood.] Or the other.

[Okay, now that does look bad. Ikki cringes at the image.]

I'm not hurt now... Are you?

I'm a bit sore, thanks to falling out of a few trees. [The thought bubbles go a bit fuzzy as Giles actively tries to stop letting them show. Scaring small children is not okay.]

But no, I'm not hurt. [And now it's time for a subject change.] So. The is your first experiment? How do you like the village so far?

I would prefer it if my brother was here with me. I'm still worried about him.

[The thought bubble shows a baby boy, being hold in Ikki's arms protectively, apparently from a girl dressed in black.]

But it's not a bad place, it may be just what Shun and me need. No orphanages and free houses so we wouldn't freeze. Even if it's a bit weird with those experiments.

The food is free too so we could eat warm everyday here.

[Nodding to himself. The only downfall was that Shun wasn't there, had he been Ikki would be happy to claim that he didn't want to leave the village.]

Well, it's entirely possible that your brother will arrive soon. Three people, apart from myself, arrived from my world at about the same time. Maybe he'll be along in a later cycle.

I would like that, this place would be pretty good for us. It's not as if they had anything else.

But it would be troublesome, Shun is just a baby, he barely knows how to crawl.

Have you thought about maybe finding someone older to move in with?

[Silence and staring for a moment.]

Not really... Adults don't want children as old as I am to make a family, why would someone who doesn't want one want to take me in?

The villagers here are really very helpful. [A few faces flicker through the thought bubble. None of them stay visible for more than a couple of seconds, but they all look friendly enough.] You'd be surprised. And it can't hurt to ask, can it?

[Ikki hums for a moment, looking down at the journal, considering it.]

I'll think 'bout it. I can use this book for it, right?

Yes, you can. That's how you'll communicate with most of the village, unless you're actually face-to-face with someone. It's quite handy, really.

Do you know how to use it?

[He opens his mouth to say yes, but stops and thinks about it better, looking at the book again.]

I'm... Not sure. People talk through this. And I can see them. How do I make them hear and see me?

Well, I'm afraid I don't know the "whys". I just know the "hows". [He pulls out his own journal and opens it. If Ikki will pay attention that long, Giles will walk him through a quick tutorial.]

[Ikki moves closer to have a better look just in case, his own journal open ready to follow Giles' tutorial. He may be a small kid but he's pretty smart and uses his brain, so long as they don't touch filters he will follow the explanations finely.]

So I can answer anyone whose voice I hear? Anyone who makes an entry?
