Summary: The Malnosso are testing their experiments still. Maybe they should just reuse the same test subjects in new ways? Well, who's it going to hurt? No one that matters.

[Okay wait, maybe there's some mixed signals here. One eyebrow rises in confusion.]

Before what happened?

[touchofrogue]

Before Gambit kidnapped me.

[bamfing]

Uh... [Definitely a different train of thought there.] Yeah. That uh, hasn't happened yet. I guess. {And yet concerned.] Why did he kidnap you?

[touchofrogue]

Because - [He wanted to use me, like everyone else. He wanted to rescue his father. He was desperate. He wanted to help me.] - he's an idiot. That's why.

[bamfing]

[Not too hard to guess there's more to it than that.] But we found you. [I found you.]

[touchofrogue]

Yeah. You noticed when I hadn't been to school. Guess you figured I'd done it.

[bamfing]

Well, I'm glad things work out, yeah? [He can't imagine not looking for her if she was in trouble. But what she's given away is an approximation of how much time has passed since then. He buries his chin behind his hands as he lowers his head.] But... what 'it' did you do?

[touchofrogue]

I didn't. He kidnapped me before I could.

[...right. He didn't remember. Well... might as well go out and say it. Rogue sighs.]

I was thinkin' of leaving the Institute. Then Gambit came with his knockout gas and... [She shrugs.]

[bamfing]

[... oh boy. And he has no doubt he has some part to play in that too.]

You wouldn't have gone through it, would you?

[touchofrogue]

[Rogue glances down and away, frowning.] I don't know. Maybe.

[And then more firmly:] Not anymore.

[You came for me. Not for what I could do. Just for me.]

[bamfing]

Good. [The response is automatic.

He goes quiet, before standing up again.] It doesn't change what happened, though. But I don't want you to leave either. [He turns away, leaning against the sofa and staring in the opposite direction of her.]

[touchofrogue]

Kurt, I -

[She doesn't know what to say. She's had time to think since coming to Luceti, but the memories of what happened still make it hard to think. There are a few things, though, that she does know.]

I'm sorry. I never meant to hurt you. I really don't know why I did what I did - when I reached out, I meant to help her. But...

[But then I thought about everything she'd done to me. And I was just so - angry - I couldn't do it. I just couldn't.]

[bamfing]

[Somehow he has a hard time believing that. And yet... he knows that Rogue's mind is not an easy place to be. And this was right after being used to awaken Apocalypse, after being used by their own mother...]

I know why you did it, Rogue. [He sighs.] I just wish things had been different.

[Maybe she might have changed. Told me about who I am. Where I came from...]

[touchofrogue]

I wish they'd been different too.

[I wish she'd never come back into our lives. I wish she'd left me alone after using me the first time. I wish I'd been strong enough so I wouldn't have to have her murder on my soul...

...I wish she'd never found us at all.]

[bamfing]

[He stays quiet at this. Wishing doesn't change anything. He wants to forgive her and move on, but it's so hard.]

... Kitty and Ororo don't know what happened. They don't need to.

[touchofrogue]

[She recognizes that as a kindness on his part. As a kindness... and as a way to maintain distance. She knows the way you think, Kurt. She's been you too, after all. It's a good thing that she's got such a strong aversion to manipulation.]

Just because they don't know doesn't change what I did. They'll know when we get home.

[They all know. And they-

-were afraid, jumped when you came into the room-

They came for her anyway. And that's the part she's going to do her best to hold on to. Or else she will lose to the voices in her head.]

So if you need to talk to them about it, you can go right ahead.

[bamfing]

[He's not even sure how to talk to them about it. He'd spent the last two months trying not to even think about it, concerning himself with the more immediate problems of Luceti.]

It's not like it would help anyway. [Or change anything for that matter.] I just need some time, you know?

[touchofrogue]

[She... doesn't have anything to say to that. She doesn't have any excuses to offer. Part of her deeply regrets what she did. And part of her... is not sorry. But she'd never meant to hurt Kurt. Pushing Mystique had been a moment of pure selfishness - it had been between her and her mother, nothing else had entered into the equation.

She'd just wanted her to stop hurting her.

She'd just hated her for what she'd done to her.]

Yeah. I know the feeling.

[bamfing]

[What else is there to say now? He asked for more time, she granted it. Well...]

But I want you here, yeah? We're still family. [He pauses for a moment.] So we definitely need somewhere bigger to live.

[touchofrogue]

[She smiles at that - briefly, through the pain. He is the closest thing to family that she has, and to a girl who's entire life's been a lie, that means more than you'd think.]

Some of the houses are free, right?

[bamfing]

Yeah. [He pulls his feet up and swings around, so he can sit on the top of the couch and let his feet rest on the seat cushions.]

Actually, I've done a little door to door checking, courtesy of my personal 'porting. I found one big enough for all of us with some room to spare.

[touchofrogue]

Did you find anyplace with more'n one bathroom?

[bamfing]

[That gets a flat look. He knows what that means.]

Yeah. Too bad they're all taken. [And he's only well too aware of the bathroom problem. Makes it even harder when one of the people they live with rarely bothers with doors.]

[touchofrogue]

That sucks. [She stretches a little.] What place to ya have in mind?

[bamfing]
