There's an experiment going on, haven't you noticed? I ended up here as a result of that.

[Jack watches her walk around it, his mouth hanging open slightly, and so on as she keeps going. Then he springs into action, sweeping up the patched and now mud-covered coat and scurrying after her, a very much mud-spattered pirate now.]

I...had noticed, yes. I spent part of the week as a young lad, actually. I found it rather pleasant. But this---you---this is highly dangerous.

[He snugs her a bit closer and continues.] The boat were tossing about something horrible, a wild patch of weather caught her up and then I arrived in the world. Exciting for mum, I suppose.

[Jack pauses and sniffs the air. Then, somehow while still holding her, he sniffs at his shirt and underarms.] What the devil are you complaining about? I smell fine. [Sorta.]

[Jack carefully descends from the log and continues trudging through the snow with her.] Lord, woman---eating for two, aren't we.
