[he's trying. He really is. Trying so hard to focus on the instruction and who he knows is actually giving it, and not on... everything else]

He is well-known, though he has become very careful about keeping information hidden from those he doesn't want to find it. There is a possibility that he has been using false names, and telling his contacts to deny knowing him.
