[Which means that Okita will be dropping by since Ayumu not being out in the kitchen is unusual enough to warrant the captain going to check on her. It's unlikely that she's ill, but perhaps it has something to do with the strange situation Souji has found himself to be in as well.

When he woke up in the morning, he was different. So different, in fact, that it had taken quite some getting used to. Thankfully, it wasn't so hard to grab some of the laundry off the line that was supposed to belong to Hijikata and dress himself. Now, the hard part was deciding whether he wanted to play out this role or keep being himself.

Approaching Ayumu's door, he stops for a moment, considers, and then knocks.]

[...ah, of course someone would want to know why she wasn't working on breakfast. Perhaps she should have left a note on the door.

Ayumu glances down at herself, then at the door, then sighs.]

Yes?

[Interesting. That isn't Ayumu's voice. It isn't a voice he recognizes at all.

He isn't in the wrong house though... Then again, considering what happened to him, it's possible something happened to her as well.]

I need to talk to you. Can you come out?

[Hijikata? Ah.

Ayumu adjusts her too-large and carefully tucked clothing (perhaps she should have stolen something of Nagakura's while she was out of the room) and moves to open the door. Her expression stays entirely neutral, of course, giving no hint of how much her current appearance bothers her; she just inclines her head politely in a greeting of sorts.]

It appears there's a new experiment.

[Okita is amazed that worked, but is even more amazed when he sees who comes to the door. It looks like Susumu, but...tiny. Really tiny.]

So it would seem. What happened to you?

I'm not entirely certain. I appear to be much younger... and male. This time I realize that something is different, however, unlike the previous experiment.

Have you noticed any changes in anyone else?

I haven't seen anyone else in person yet, but judging from the journals so far, people are turning into... other people. I don't have enough information to know what the changes have in common, however.
