Lucy, you have some explaining to do!

Who: Vash ([livejournal.com profile] goldenglasses) and Winry ([livejournal.com profile] crytearsofjoy)
What: Having a little talk about a certain client.
When: Shortly after this post.
Where: Outside the Smithy
Summary: Vash found out that Winry is building a new arm for Legato. A warning is in order.
Rating: PG
He waited for her to exit the smithy. Thinking over and over what he'd say. Did she just not know who Legato was? If that's the case, it was time she found out who she was really dealing with.

----You know I'm really sorry for screwing up the tense I forgot XD

She settled down, sitting next to Vash. With a a sigh the girl proppped her head up with her hands, and rested her elbows on her knees.

"No really, Vash," she told him, "I'm sorry for causing a bigger problem for you. I approached him about the arm, and it's the only thing we've talked about."

We'll just go present tense then, ahaha.

"I'm not sure. I've got an arm ready for him, but even if I made a new one it would be done in less than a week. The procedure, however..."

Her voice trails off as she begins to think. What could she do or say that would buy Vash time.

"I need to reserve clinic space, and I don't know when I'll be able to get that. Even if the surgery goes well and I operate on him in a week the recovery period is normally three years."

However she's known a young boy with a drive so powerful that he did it in one. The girl leans back so she may look at the sky. He hadn't ask her to not perform the surgery yet. This was good. She couldn't promise someone help, and then take it away. That's not what a good mechanic - a good doctor would do. Her fingers grip the fabric on the knees of her pants. What would her parents say?

"No," she tells him, "and not because I can't. I won't manufacture and arm that's bound to fail. If there's a draft and he needs to rely on that arm to keep himself alive and it doesn't hold up, then I am responsible for his death."

"Yes, of course."

It's the least she could do for him after creating this whole mess. If she would have simply kept to herself then this scene wouldn't have played. She really knew how to make herself a burden on others, didn't she?

Winry looks at him and frowns. Jeez, this guy.

"Stop that," she says as if reprimanding a dog who was chewing on the furniture, "I got myself involved. It's my responsibility to be more careful with the people I meet."

In severe contrast Winry stands up abruptly, and shouts, "No! No, there was nothing you could have done! I'm not some child who doesn't know any better! Don't treat me like so by saying that. Worrying about what could have happened will only set you even further behind!"

"Just because it shouldn't happen won't make what does happen go away. What we have to do now is think about the future. Would you rather I not tell him we had this talk?"

Bad things happen to good people - the death of her parents taught her this. But that doesn't mean good people should stop doing the right thing, even if it means they'll be safe.

"Then mum's the word."

She holds out her hand for Vash before she leaves. Go ahead, shake it.

The girl gives Vash a firm shake before stepping away to leave, "Everything will work out. We just need to keep looking forward."
