In which Sokka maybe actually succeeds (we hope)

[This was it. Sokka had been working up the nerve and going through all the preparations for this. The Big Day. Do or die. Either he rises or falls. He'd get to find out the answer to a question that would determine the REST OF HIS LIFE.

... preparing for Black Sun was easier than this.

Either way, he'd let him work crew know he was going to be off, blown off school, informed Katara and the others he would not be back for dinner (or at all that night) and practiced his lines in front of an utterly disinterested Hawky. And then on a slightly less apathetic Momo.

Sunset was still about an hour off and Sokka was waiting by the river with the black canoe, Maza. He had wisely chosen not to take the one named Yue. Although now he was realizing he hadn't taken consideration of the moon cycle. Crap! What if this was a Full Moon? How could he manage to do something like this if he was feeling guilty about Yue!? Ugh... he'll just have to do the deed during sunset, rather than down at the lake. To think, he's already bungling things up this early.

Well, there's nothing for it now. He told Suki to meet him by the river bank. It was just a matter of her showing up now.]

[He slides his new pants on, noting for a moment how loose they are. He'll just have to make good use of his belt. A moment later he looks up to see her touching the necklace again and he can't help but smile, both because there she is - his betrothed standing in front of the fire and because, well, she's right.]

Heh... I guess you're right. I mean, we'll be seeing a lot more of each other once we are married.

[kyoshi]

[She glances over her shoulder when she stops hearing the rustling clothes - carefully at first, then fully when she notes that he at least changed that much. She's seen him shirtless anyway.

Though speaking of marriage...]

Sokka... I was wondering about that, actually. We're engaged here, but- are we getting married here, then?

[It's strange to imagine- besides the Kyoshi Warriors, it's not like she has family she desperately wants to have at the wedding. But Sokka's father is so important to him, so shouldn't he be there for it?]

[markofthewise]

[At that, he pauses in the middle of tightening his belt. He feels kind of guilty, because for so long he had told himself that of course they wouldn't get married here. He'd always considered it a given. That was for home, with family.

... but that was taking the choice out of Suki's hands. And his own too, really.

Rather than pulling that shirt on, he closes the distance between the two of them.]

Well... I don't think we should let Luceti decide when and how we get married. A wedding is supposed to be about us, right?

[kyoshi]

Not just us, but... [Well... if she had more of a family, she's pretty sure they would want to be there. She only barely met Sokka's father, so she really can't speak for him- it just feels strange to her, to have it anywhere but home.

Then again, their friends here in Luceti... wouldn't they want to be a part of it, too?

...This is complicating things.]

Looks like we have even more to think about now.

[He's spent months thinking about that, going over it in his head, and thinking he had the answer. But it's not really that simple.]

You think too much, Suki. [Wedding plans can wait. The night of their engagement won't last forever, though. So he quickly leans in for a kiss, before she gets any chance to protest.]

[kyoshi]

[She talks too much, she thinks too much- why so cheeky before a kiss, Sokka? She's not protesting, though, instead sliding her arms around his neck and returning it with enthusiasm. He's right; this is a night to celebrate, not sit around pondering the future. Whatever happens after this, their future will be a good one- together.]

[markofthewise]

[Because he knows she likes a little snark before a kiss. But you know what, they've kissed a hundred times now. So maybe he could try something just a tad... different. So he attempts a little more aggressive kissing. That in itself is nothing new at this point. But he'll follow that up with a kiss on her cheekbone, just above the neck. The very edge of the usual 'kiss zone'.]

[kyoshi]

[Well, hello. If he wants to try something new, she's game- something she demonstrates by tilting her head enough to kiss his neck, instead. How's that for aggressive?

...Hopefully not too aggressive or anything, she's new to this too.]

[markofthewise]

[Oh. Oh. That's definitely different. Not a bad different, though. Well, if she's doing that, he can do the same, right? So he goes for a kiss on her neck, but fumbles and gets the ear instead. Well... no one ever said he was a pro.]

[kyoshi]

[...Okay she can't help but giggle at that, trying to muffle it against his neck. That kind of tickled.]

[markofthewise]

[His cheeks redden a bit.] Hey, don't laugh.

[He'll do it RIGHT this time. Square on the neck this time. Aww yeah.]

[kyoshi]

I was trying not to... [And she trails off there, because neck kisses apparently feel really nice. She makes note of this, lifting her hands to toy with his hair and tug it free of the tail, her fingers brushing through it.]

[markofthewise]

[Whoops and there goes his hair. Oh well, it was kind of messed up from being dried off anyway. Which means he ought to return the favor, right? So abandoning his spot on her neck, he plans a kiss on her forehead while he tries to undo the tie in her hair. He's having notably far less success than she did. It's just too much hair!]

[kyoshi]

[Too much hair, bah, amateur. or should she say "boy" Smiling, she shifts back to press her lips against his again, moving her hands from his hair to hers to help him with the little ponytail. If he likes this, maybe she ought to start growing her hair out.]

[markofthewise]

[Ah, there we go! He takes the hairtie once it's free and uh, stuffs it in his pocket. Seems as good as place any. Once her hair falls, he lets his hand run through it, helping to ease it back to falling naturally. He really does like long hair like this, even if it tradition to keep hair up like that. So no kiss again, just yet. He's just going to keep his forehead against hers.]

I think I like your hair like this.

[kyoshi]

[She shifts just enough to give him a little nuzzle, another smile crossing her lips.]

You like long hair? The other girls prefer it, but mine's always been short... I've never tried to grow it out.

[markofthewise]

Well, I guess I never have either.

[Hmm, he plays with the bit of hair that was tied up before, getting it out of the bunch it's still in.]

But you look amazing either way. [In fact, he fondly remembers that ponytail she wore while doing security work at the secret Earth Kingdom ferries.]

[kyoshi]

I'd tell you flattery won't get you anywhere, but... [Well. It would be an obvious lie, of course.] I think I like it. You, on the other hand... [She tucks his hair back behind his head, looking thoughtful.] That tail still suits you better, I think.

[markofthewise]

[He ends up smirking as she puts the tail back up. Well he'd be hesitant to ever lose it, so he's certainly glad she likes it.]

It is kind of me, isn't it? [Heh. He's pleased, so she gets another peck on the lips. Now, where were they?]

[kyoshi]

[Maybe she prefers it because his jerk Avatar self liked it down. Well, whatever, he's right- they were busy. Kissing. Something she's more than happy to get back into, her hands toying with the newly-fixed wolf tail. This time it's her who deepens the kiss, experimenting with it a little.]

[markofthewise]

[This really is an amazing moment and he ends up putting as much energy into it in turn. A little subconsciously and maybe a bit intentionally, he's backing up towards the bed. It's a bit hard to do all of this standing up, after all.]

[kyoshi]

[With him moving like that, she has to move as well to keep up with him, and when his legs hit the edge of the bed, she... kind of doesn't notice, which means she's still moving forward. So, Sokka: do you stop her, or fall? Beds are cozier than standing up, but it also has certain implications...]

[markofthewise]

[Well it's not like there's a couch, is there? But his legs get caught on the edge of the bed and with her still moving, he ends up falling on his back, staring up at her. There's a momentary look of bewilderment as he realizes where this has landed them. Which means a momentary reprieve in passion, as he leaves the next move in her court. After all, she's the one on top right now.]

[SHE'LL ALWAYS BE ON TOP SOKKA Suki is, for a long moment, just as stunned as he is; she has kind of a deer-in-headlights look to her, unsure of just where she wants to take this.

...Though at the moment the only thing that's changed is location, and... there's nothing wrong with it. If they start pushing each other too far, they can just stop. So after giving herself a moment to relax, she bends down and tries kissing at his neck again, shifting bit by bit towards his chest. Is this okay? Is this too much, or...?]

[Well... okay then. If she's not objecting, far be it for him to do the same. And frankly this is kind of an entirely new thing for the both of them. Beyond just these uh, new locations they've discovered, Sokka usually has his shirt on. He never did quite get fully dressed again, after all. That does seem to be a little bit unfair.

So he pulls away at the sleeve to expose one of her shoulders and plants a kiss there. At this point he's really not sure where the line is that they should draw. There's... well, there's no reason to stop here, right?]
