Summary: It's Katara's 16th birthday today! ~Marrying age~ Seeing as it's a pretty big deal, even though there won't be all the gathered eligible young men in the village competing to make an impression, Sokka invites anyone who wants to come and celebrate over anyway.
Rating: PG? Iunno. Depends on if she gets that birthday kiss.

Nami had been invited over for just after breakfast - that's when the approximation of 'gathering round the girl's family' to make an outrageous hair style and tease her about this new period of her life will begin.

After that's over, Sokka will make a general announcement on the journals, that if anyone wants to come and wish her a happy birthday to come on by around lunch. There's a spread of store-bought food for them to eat, and Sanji will later come over with dinner. And, hey, if you're in the mood for party games-all-sorts, Toph might be talked into building something fun in the back yard...

[Maybe she should, but nope, she doesn't. Instead she just laughs at his goofiness.]

Well-! [He stands once more] It is the beautiful birthday girl's special day. Aaah, if only I could escort you, but for now, all I can do is try to be flashy and stand out, mm?

[He shrugs here, taking a half-step back]

At least standing out is never really problem for you, huh?

[She has no idea why he'd want to stand out like this, but has almost learned better than to ask.]

I don't think it comes to me quite as naturally as it does for you though, Katara!! The eyes of all guys in the room must be firmly on you today!

[There's an actual self-conscious light flush which greets his words.]

[He offers her a hand for no reason other than theatrics]

Would you like something to eat?

[You know what? Fine.

She places her hand in his and uses her other hand to draw her skirt into a curtsy.]

Some lemonade sounds nice, thank you.

[His smile gets, if anything more genuine at this and he steers her over to get some. Or well, steers her such for him to pour her some]

Of course.

[She lets go of his hand once they reach the table and actually waits to let him pour her some lemonade. Hey, the girl does like to be pampered sometimes.]

I'm really glad I'm back to normal for this.

Aah, so am I~ as flattering as being your sister was, I think I prefer you like this.

[She blushes at that, embarrassed, but rallies.]

Me too.

[She reaches out to take the lemonade and blows on it, turning the condensation on the edges to ice in order to make it perfect.]

[Still impressive. He watches that with a sort of admiration, but says nothing of it while he gets himself his own lemonade]

Still, in light of how big this is, I almost feel like my gift is too little.

[She blinks up at him, surprised.]

You got me a present?

[Somehow, he's managed to get past her politeness and delved a direct route to her curiosity.]

[And here her tugs on the edges of his hoodie to reveal in more detail that he tied... a ribbon around his neck.

And Katara tries really hard to keep from laughing - and succeeds! Except the way the corners of her mouth tweak up she really may as well not have.]

I'd say you were out of your mind. [She reaches out and tugs at the end of the ribbin to loosen it before dropping her hand.] Take that ribbon off, you look ridiculous.

[And she doesn't know how you can wear that hoodie in July, either.]

[Well then, that's just the reaction he wanted. He grins and tugs it off himself - it was only loosely tied and he lets the pink ribbon fall the ground ~~and who knows man but it's canon. All hoodies. All the time~~ anyway. He now reaches into the hoodie pocket and pulls out a small wrapped box.

Inside will be two blue stud earrings (a little like these) he lucked across in the shop. He shifts a bit as he hands it over]

Ah... I promise in future I'll make it next time.

Oh. [A beat of awkward. Her ears were pierced in That experiment, the one where she was Zoro's mother and Trafalgar's daughter and they had been together. But they're not pierced now. The holes had disappeared along with the tattoos. She is hesitant to point this out.]

They're beautiful, Masaomi. Thank you.

[And with her hair up like this... he actually looks at her ears. He notices there's nothing on there but - there's been things on there before, right? His ears are always pierces, so he sort of takes it for granted a lot of girls will be... oh well. He just smiles]

Something beautiful to match the girl, right?

[She rolls her eyes, but smiles lightly.] I do like blue.

[And snaps the case shut to draw attention away from her ears.]

[That does successfully derail him into looking at her face proper. He smiles at her and nods]

Mm, I know~

[She gestures at her clothes a little wryly.] What gave it away?

I think I could sense it in your eyes? Thy do tend to match well with it!
