Summary: It's Katara's 16th birthday today! ~Marrying age~ Seeing as it's a pretty big deal, even though there won't be all the gathered eligible young men in the village competing to make an impression, Sokka invites anyone who wants to come and celebrate over anyway.
Rating: PG? Iunno. Depends on if she gets that birthday kiss.


Nami had been invited over for just after breakfast - that's when the approximation of 'gathering round the girl's family' to make an outrageous hair style and tease her about this new period of her life will begin.

After that's over, Sokka will make a general announcement on the journals, that if anyone wants to come and wish her a happy birthday to come on by around lunch. There's a spread of store-bought food for them to eat, and Sanji will later come over with dinner. And, hey, if you're in the mood for party games-all-sorts, Toph might be talked into building something fun in the back yard...

[Katara's not used to walking around with all this stuff in her hair, but it's kind of nice having her hair up again. And she definitely felt loved with each swing of her more elaborate loopies.

She glances up at Sokka - and it actually is up, he's gotten taller since they've been here, and isn't it odd? - and smiles.]

[Katara may or may not see him; really, Derek's trying to stay out of sight and just find where the gifts are being left. He's still not big on being around people, and besides, old guy plus teenagers at a party equals not a very good mix.

So, yeah. He'll make his way to the pile and carefully settle a small, wrapped package there before trying to find his way back out again without...you know, 'disrupting' anything.]

[He'll show up a bit late to lunch- after seeing Sokka's announcement, he had to rush to the square and do some SHOPPING. When he arrives though, it will be dressed to the nines in a so-dark-it's-almost-black blue silk shirt, and carrying a small square box wrapped in pale blue paper with white ribbon tied around it.]

[After dropping off his present at the table (he had been unable to decide what to get her so he decided just to make her something practical and appreciable), Law's going to hang back from all these young'uns and watch things go by with a glass of lemonade in his hand.

[Should Katara turn her head just at the opportune time, she'll find Jet leaning against the side of the house, a relaxed grin on his face. Has he been there the whole time? Is that flower's he has behind his back? (well, she liked them well enough when he was a fox antelope) Did anyone actually invite him? Who knows.]

And her heart gives a funny little lurch at seeing him, looking almost as he did when she first saw him, in this world that gives and takes away so quickly and without care. As a result her tone loses a bit of its accustomed edge when she speaks with him.]

[She takes the necessary steps over so they're in comfortable talking distance now and even smiles a little.]
