Summary: It's Katara's 16th birthday today! ~Marrying age~ Seeing as it's a pretty big deal, even though there won't be all the gathered eligible young men in the village competing to make an impression, Sokka invites anyone who wants to come and celebrate over anyway.
Rating: PG? Iunno. Depends on if she gets that birthday kiss.


Nami had been invited over for just after breakfast - that's when the approximation of 'gathering round the girl's family' to make an outrageous hair style and tease her about this new period of her life will begin.

After that's over, Sokka will make a general announcement on the journals, that if anyone wants to come and wish her a happy birthday to come on by around lunch. There's a spread of store-bought food for them to eat, and Sanji will later come over with dinner. And, hey, if you're in the mood for party games-all-sorts, Toph might be talked into building something fun in the back yard...

In my defense? I live with four girls and one guy.

That's why you can't fault Katara for having so many guy friends, right?

[Nudge nudge wink. Though she finds the overprotective brother thing kind of cute, she doesn't want him to end up stifling her new little sis.]

That's different. We're engaged. It's not like girls are coming up to me asking for dates.

I haven't seen any of those boys go up to Katara to ask for a date yet. [And maybe they will. And maybe they have. But she's an adult now so it's totally okay 8|]

[markofthewise]

You haven't? Whew. [Okay, that's a relief.] Let me know if you do. Especially Masaomi. He's up to something... Michael too. In fact? The blond guys. They're extra flirty.

[kyoshi]

Don't you think Katara can handle herself?

[markofthewise]

Of course she can. [A pause.]

But we're family. So we're backup, just in case.

[kyoshi]

Oh, definitely. If anyone starts to bother her and she needs a hand, I'd be happy to show them out.

[markofthewise]

Thank you! This is why I love you. I can always count on you. [Even in his ridiculous schemes to keep his sister single forever.]

[kyoshi]

Oh, is that the only reason? [Another nudge. Definitely easing out of serious territory here.]

[markofthewise]

[Huh? He stops watching Katara for a moment to glance at her.]

Um, no. There's other reasons. [He thought she knew that!]

[Oh Sokka, so serious. She gives him another nudge.]

I think you're too tense today. Relax, it's a party for Katara. Just enjoy it!

I'm not tense! And I am enjoying it. See?

[Not taking his eyes off Masaomi, he goes over to get a piece of cake. He drops the slice of cake into a bowl of rice. Oops.]

[kyoshi]

...Are you sure about that? [You're getting clumsy over there, darling.]

[markofthewise]

Um. [He pulls out some rice covered cake.] I meant to do that? [Yeah, he knows she's right.]

[kyoshi]

[This face. Uh-huh, she's sure you did.]

[markofthewise]

[Yeeeeeeah he's caught. Okay! So, pulling out the cake and TURNING HIS BACK to his sister.]

You know until today, I didn't realize how close in age you two were now. [Yup, Luceti. So weird.]

[kyoshi]

Does that bother you? [She's not terribly weirded out since she's nowhere near as close to Katara as Sokka is, but... she can understand that it might be a strange thing.]

[markofthewise]

[He considers that and... he shrugs.]

It's not that big of a deal. [He sort of likes being the older one. He doesn't seem as immature compared to her anymore.]

[kyoshi]

[She studies him for a moment, searching for any sign of him dodging the issues, then finally leans back, apparently satisfied.]

Well, that's good. It's not like you had that big of an age gap anyway.

And more importantly, you still get to be the 'older sister'. [Maybe not technically now... but eventually!]

[kyoshi]

That is pretty exciting. I've never had a sister before!

[markofthewise]

I've never not had a sister. Well, I mean, I did for a year. But it's not like I remember that.

[kyoshi]

If it helps any, I'm pretty sure you've never had a wife before. So you get to experience something new, too.
