Summary: What's a summer without going on a trip to the beach at least once?
Rating: PG13+? Depends, really.

[When one enters the beach, if they're the type of people to make beelines for food as soon as they step into a party, they'll notice that there are a few tables set up with a bunch of snacks laid about, along with a giant cooler residing at the end of the table. There's a barbecue going on too, though it'll be self-serve if you're hungry.]

[Otherwise, there's a bunch of sporting equipment laying about. A Frisbee, a few volleyball nets... Whatever you'd like to be there! Don't forget, there's always swimming in the ocean, too.]

[...Oh, whatever. Why the hell was he doing all this talking when he could just show what he was talking about?

Below the surface, a dark shadow rapidly forms. Walter swims backwards a little, and then gets a firm grip on the dark 'bubble' that he is now sitting on.

There are definitely other ways to show the fact that his clothes aren't soaked, but this was just a little dramatic.]

Instinct has her scrambling up into a crouched position on her board.

She'd really rather not have to fight any sea serpents today, those things are nasty--]

[He's on a dark... bubble. thing. Something?

[She straightens up, barely paying attention to her own movements to stare at him.]

What... is that thing?

[Walter brushes on the water on his clothes; the fabric seems untouched, with the water slipping off of his clothes easily.

He seems unfazed by her surprise. ...Well, no. It's more like he's gauging her reaction.]

It's my teriques. Not a thing.

What's a teriques? [She shifts a little closer. Her stance is still loose and easy, but it would take less than a second for her to snap to attention - she's not feeling threatened, though. He's not attacking her. So she's just curious.] Can I touch it?

[blackteriques]

[He frowns guardedly, spending a moment trying to decide whether or not he should allow that. ...He did bother to bring it out, so...]

Fine. But don't try anything funny. [The bubble drifts closer with Walter still on top. The surface seems to ripple like water, but it certainly doesn't look like it -- it's a very dark purple, blackish color, with the seawater visible through it.]

[It looks kind of... dangerous. But if he said that it was okay to touch it, Katara will... reach out and poke it.

And poke it again.

Poke, poke.]

It feels kind of weird. It's not water, is it?

[...It is definitely odd watching someone poke his sphere. He's usually just had people in it.]

No, it's-- [would it really be a good idea to say it's his soul?] --my energy. [Bah. He's confident in his strength.]

You mean... it's part of you? [She immediately withdraws her hand.

And it does feel... weird.]

An extension. [He shrugs, still watching how she's reacting.] Interesting but unnatural, right? [He's already presuming how she's going to comment.]

Well, it's different than anything I've seen in my world, that's for sure. [She glances up at him, suddenly concerned.] It didn't hurt when I touched it, right?

[blackteriques]

[...A slow blink. What?]

Of course not. It's not delicate or anything. [That's almost insulting. He even pushes down on the sphere in demonstration.] It's sturdier than the water you're sitting on.

Well, how am I supposed to know? I've never touched the extension of someone's 'energy' before.

[...And so she reaches out to poke it again.

Yup. Weird. There's really no other word to describe it.]

Huh.

[blackteriques]

And I've never seen someone 'bend' water to surf around on water, so we're even. [Sorta. ...Yeah, probably not. This was a weird chance encounter.]

I guess so. [She draws back and continues to maintain balance on her board, but has to bend her knees when a larger wave rolls in.]

Thanks for showing me. That was pretty neat.

[blackteriques]

[His eyes narrow slightly, but only for a moment. He's still not used to being thanked by humans, even if he's started judging them separately from the Orerines.]

Sure. [...Okay, he's reached his decision.] What's your name again? Katara?

[markofthebrave]

[Blink. Smile.]

Right. And you're Walter.

[...not that she is going to forget his name. This has got to be one of the weirder conversations she's had in a while. And with weirder. Things. Completely dry clothes in the ocean? Teriques? Purpliesh bubbly things that are part of a whatever a terique is?]

I'll remember that. [It's as much of an acknowledgment of his interest that he'll give.] And I won't keep you any longer.

[...okay then.

She straightens up. The waves are getting a little higher now - she's not sorry to go, although she naturally has more questions - whatever, she'll ask them another time, if she sees him.]

It was nice meeting you, Walter!

[And with a smile, and a pause just long enough for him to return some sort of social nicety if he so desires, she'll be off!]

[He doesn't say anything as she leaves, but he's at least polite enough to acknowledge her smile with a nod before watching her head off.

If she bothered to look back as she was leaving, she might catch sight of him diving back in the water, the bubble vanishing as he disappears. He won't be resurfacing anytime soon.]
