Summary: Brigade party! There's food! There's lights! There's music! There's fireworks!

There were lights! Autumn-appropriate decorations! There were tables of food (though very little of it is vegetarian friendly)! There was even a stage for music and entertainment! Still waiting was the fireworks to take place at midnight, but otherwise things were set up to more or less respectable Brigade standards. Maybe Haruhi hadn't done it herself, but it was done well enough, thanks to the efforts of being coordinated by Mikage.

The stage was left open for anyone to perform that wanted to. The karaoke machine had been dragged outside for people to sing along to, regardless of talent, or otherwise just to play music when no one was on stage. Naturally inside the Rec Center itself is a variety of pool tables, foosball, air hockey, and a TV with some video games. Just enough to keep things a little fun. If only there was a pool.

No. It's kind of hard to explain to someone who isn't an alchemist... uh...

[WELP. That's some pretty impressive numbers there, Ed. But Hiccup doesn't want to bother him with too many questions. Especially when it seems he's already said more than he wants to.]

I think all worlds have the potential to be interesting if you get the right description of them, anyway. Yours is no exception.

[Hiccup just shrugs.] I don't know. I mean, I guess we've got the dragons. But other than that? Yeah...Berk is pretty, well...Berk.

Well... dragons are kind of a big deal to people from worlds where there're nothing but legends, you know.

[A quick, smug smile crosses his face.]

Yeah, that's true. There're a couple of people here who I'm preeeetty sure only talk to me because of Toothless. And this one guy? He's a knight. But he...sort of respects me because I've trained dragons. So, that's neat.

I don't know if your dragon was all that impressed with me, if that helps any.

[And here he is! Talking to you. Without a dragon around.

[Wait, no, maybe not the best response. He clears his throat.]

[Hiccup turns a bright scarlet red.] What? No! Wait--no, no no, not at all. I-I mean, maybe that sort of worked--once. But if anything, girls end up liking him more than me. He's kind of a showoff.

If you say so. [He doesn't miss that mention of "once", though. Got a girlfriend or something, eh? MENTAL NOTE TO SELF.] Well, I can understand it, anyway. Dragons are pretty damn cool.

[All spikes and horns and fire. So badass.]

Yeah. Plus he...kind of knows he's cool. He's not exactly the most modest of beasts.

[He sighs. Man, he had no hopes of being that badass himself. WOE.] But if you think he's impressive? You should see the rest of my tribe. I mean, they used to fight dragons like Toothless--and win. That kind of puts it in perspective.

Oh, right, you guys used to fight the dragons... [And Hiccup's not a normal viking or... something. He vaguely recalls this.] And you fought without magic or anything, right? [That is pretty impressive, actually.]

Teah. Just viking willpower. And really, really big and spiky weapons. That's why I work in the smithy, actually. I wasn't...well, uh, big enough to actually go after the dragons. So I was apprenticed to our blacksmith. Gobber.

What is with the names vikings are giving their kids?

[His name could be Fishlegs. THIS COULD BE MUCH WORSE.]

Vikings believe they have to give their kids an intimidating name to proof their brutishness, basically.

...Though I'm not really sure what's intimidating about 'Hiccup'. [That's where you first went wrong, Stoick.]

I can't help you there. It might be the least intimidating name I've ever heard.
