Give me a windy day with the white clouds flying

Who: Everyone who volunteered to help build the ship and/or anyone who has gotten dragged into it since.
What: CARVING THE BODIES. (aka "building the ship")
When: October 17th until October 22nd, from 8 in the morning until evening. (Your character is not required to be there every day all day.)
Where: On the beach, not far from one of the docks.
Summary: The construction of the ship and bonding during the work or between breaks.
Rating: PG to PG-13

The lumber gathered, the tools set out, and the plans copied several times over for distribution.

It's time to turn the mass slaughter of the trees from the forest into something fitting for the Royal Navy. ...Even if there's no Royal Navy here. Because that doesn't really matter.

Major points of the to-do list:
construct block and tackles, belaying pins, etc.
build the hull
caulking or just coat everything with epoxy and tell the Navy boys its caulked
divide the decks
build the masts
set the rigging
attach the sails
construct two quarterboats

It isn't a matter of lack of skill that worries him, but a lack of care.

"Don't harm her, Jack. It's all I ask."

He knows Jack can't take her with a crew of three.
all7seas: (you are bizarre and confusing)

Good thing Jack Sparrow looks after ships so very carefully, then---save when they run away from him. Or if the Batman foolishly intervenes.

"Harm whom, Kennedy?"
simplestgift: (Uneasy)

Archie casts him a glare, then gestures with his eyes at the sloop-in-progress.
all7seas: (they will land at your feet tonight)

Jack looks to the ship and back to the man, then back to the ship again. He grunts and stands up.

"I've things that need seeing to," he explains gruffly to Archie.
simplestgift: (Disappointed)

"Jack, I'm not asking you not to scrape up a crew and capture her. Quite the opposite, really--Horatio could use a bit of adventure, and I may be willing to help. But in return...handle her with care?"
all7seas: (break the chain and we break down)

[personal profile] all7seas 2011-10-21 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Captain Jack Sparrow," the pirate informed Archie Kennedy, "Always leaves a lady wanting more. He always handles her with the most rapt attention. He is never not careful with her."

This was at least true inasmuch as it applied to ships.
simplestgift: (Did you say what I think you said?)

"There we are, then. Was that so difficult? She'll be beautiful, I won't blame you for capturing her. If you manage to succeed."

A distinct hint of friendly challenge is there.
all7seas: (I like you)

[personal profile] all7seas 2011-10-21 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
"I sense a hint of friendly challenge, Kennedy." Partly this amused Jack; partly it rankled a bit to be considered some sort of tame, pet pirate. But what else could he be in this barrier-enclosed world?

"Why would I want more than my Joyce, though? Erm...my Joanna? I don't. She's everything I need in this place, and more."
simplestgift: (Hm! Really!)

[personal profile] simplestgift 2011-10-21 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Why indeed. What would you do with a great bloody sloop, Captain Sparrow? Besides irritate Captain Hornblower."

Never before have the words "great bloody" been applied to a sloop, but since she'll be the biggest ship in Luceti, it's more or less appropriate.
all7seas: (come again?)

[personal profile] all7seas 2011-10-21 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Archie just earns a look. Apart from Angel, there is no one in Luceti that Jack Sparrow would enjoy irritating more than Horatio Hornblower.
simplestgift: (Whatcha gonna do about it?)

[personal profile] simplestgift 2011-10-21 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
That earns Jack a look. A great big smile of the trollface variety. What? Archie's ready for a little harmless adventure, and if Jack makes it challenging for them to get the ship back, all the better. It might even be considered play, and get the two men to hate each other a bit less.
all7seas: (human hair...from my back)

[personal profile] all7seas 2011-10-21 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
That look is met with another look of the OH IT WILL BE CHALLENGING FOR YOU KENNEDY, SEE IF IT ISN'T variety. The truly annoying things would be sneaking aboard and painting up Hornblower's cabin in a rather attractive purple shade, or cutting holes in his hammock in strategic places, or other mischief. Jack wasn't above any of that on a slow day.

Problematically, there would probably BE very few slow days between now and the spring. It had to be about survival by the sea, with the drinking water situation being the most troubling. That water tank would have to be seen to.
simplestgift: (Hyep.)

Archie glanced at Jack's sandwich. "Are you going to eat that?"
all7seas: (but you have heard of me)

[personal profile] all7seas 2011-10-21 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
"With a will, Mister Kennedy! With a will." He took another bite and chewed slowly.

"I always thought I'd have Bonesy out here for a sail one day."
simplestgift: (Lost in thought because I have to be)

[personal profile] simplestgift 2011-10-21 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
"...Perhaps you will yet."
all7seas: (each left his mark on the other)

[personal profile] all7seas 2011-10-21 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
"Nah. Don't think he ever would, even if he were to return to us. He hates water. Nearly drowned once, you know--out on the Western Lake. Nearly lost him."
simplestgift: (Mm-hm.)

[personal profile] simplestgift 2011-10-22 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sounds like he and Lt. Bush would have got along handsomely."
