CUPCAKES CUPCAKES CUPCAKES

Who: Residents of House 53 plus anyone else who wants to show up
What: BIRTHDAY PARTY
When: The afternoon of Sunday, November 13
Where: House 53
Summary: It's [livejournal.com profile] isntyourfriend's birthday! Come wish him a happy day, or at least get some cake.
Rating: G unless Elliot gets really upset about the party

The surprise party for Elliot's birthday was probably one of the worst-kept secrets in the household, especially given how much cooking Gilbert had to do to prepare for it, but he'd done his best not to let Elliot know what was going on. And now the day has arrived, and the whole household has been invited, along with any of Elliot's friends. Does Elliot have any friends

The house is open to any and all guests, and there's plenty of food, tea, and cake for everyone. Come in and mingle and say hi to the birthday boy! He won't really hurt you. Promise.

[Not only had Gilbert been busy, but the rest of the house had been by and large banned from the kitchen. Gil's willingness to let them all starve (outside of Oz and Jack, for some reason) really should have been a clue, but Elliot had been surprised anyway. At least, Vincent thinks surprise is lurking somewhere beneath the frown.

Ah well. His brother has always had his own special way of scowling at everyone around him. Certainly it's nothing new to Vincent, who finds Elliot actually acting like a proper noble--so long as the definition is limited to "not locked away from everyone in his room," at least. Vincent will take advantage of it regardless, making his way over to Elliot when the younger Nightray is unoccupied.]

Happy birthday, Elliot.

[Being at the center of attention isn't something Elliot is entirely comfortable with, even if the people here are his friends and family. That's why it's still pretty embarrassing to hear such a comment from his brother, even though it's something he should be expecting, something that could never be avoided in this kind of situation.

Ahh. Birthdays.]

...thanks, Vince.

[You'll have to forgive him if he's not sure what else to say to that, though.]

[What, you mean Elliot is somehow awkward during social gatherings? Say it isn't so!

Yeah, somehow Vincent expected as much. But he couldn't be more thankful to Gil for putting on this arrangement. As much as he utterly hates this place, it's managed to provide one good thing for them, one opportunity they wouldn't be afforded in their own world.

It's a thought Vincent can't linger on, however. And with Elliot standing there looking awkward--well. Vincent isn't so used to playing the role of older brother, but he has a few ideas.

Starting with reaching a hand out to ruffle Elliot's hair. He'll hate that.]

[Yes. Yes, he will. It's a gesture he doesn't expect, and the look on his face when it happens says just as much. What did he think he was doing all of a sudden?!]

[identity profile] isntyourfriend.livejournal.com 2011-11-15 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
[Once the initial shock wears off and Elliot finds himself able to properly react, he quickly tries to step back, away from his older brother's hand, and struggles to find the words to say. If he was embarrassed before, he's at least five times more embarrassed now.]

Wh-what was that for?! Keep your hands to yourself!

[identity profile] forbrotherslove.livejournal.com 2011-11-15 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh that face. It's just too perfect. Vincent's laughing at you, little brother.]

You looked so uncomfortable, I thought I'd help you relax. [In his own, special, Vincent sort of way.] You shouldn't feel awkward at your own birthday party, of all things.

[identity profile] isntyourfriend.livejournal.com 2011-11-15 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
How is that supposed to help me relax?! [He wasn't expecting it, he's not used to it, and he doesn't know how to deal with it. Maybe still being a bit on-edge (even if that's an unnecessary feeling) helped to make it worse.] I just... I didn't know there'd be a party.

[identity profile] forbrotherslove.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
That's true. Maybe relax isn't the right way to put it. Maybe I just wanted you to be more like yourself.

[Scowling instead of awkward. It's something of a step in the right direction, isn't it?

Vincent has to laugh at that feeble excuse though.]

It wouldn't have been much of a surprise if you had. [Oh Elliot. You're so cute when you're flustered.] Unless the surprise was you coming out of your room willingly.

[It's so embarrassing to hear comments like that— "Maybe I just wanted you to be more like yourself." Maybe it's because he isn't used to hearing them, but at least it helps him to feel a little less awkward and a lot more flustered.]

If I'd known, I wouldn't be out here.

[...so yes, the surprise definitely would've been him actually leaving his room on his own.]
