Who: Everyone!
What: Thanksgiving + New Feather party.
When: Evening of the 20th.
Where: School cafeteria, nicely done up.
Summary: There's food. And there's also board games, are you game for some Snakes and Ladders?
Rating: Let's put this all over the board. Strange stuff can happen, man.
[Thanksgiving may not be a familiar holiday to most in Luceti, but everyone understands potluck, at least! Hopefully. Preferably.

It's all done buffet-style as usual. Thanksgiving stuff greets you first when you grab a plate and get in line at the buffet lines (food and drink provided by everyone, Thanksgiving stuff courtesy of the Welcome Centre and Ginia). Though of course, don't think that you have to stand in a line while eating! There's tables and chairs for sitting and talking and— eating, obviously. Reach out and grab a drink! If you get one that's been prepared by the Welcome Centre, it's non-alcoholic. Can't really say the same for anything else brought by others, so you may want to be careful. Y'know, just in case.

There's a familiar face! Hubert's staring at the floor when he happens upon where Pao-lin is, however, and thus nearly runs into her. Luckily, he raises his head just in time to notice and stop mere inches in front of someone he thankfully recognizes.

"Ah! P-Pao-lin . . . "

"Oh, hi, Hubert!" she greets. "Nice to see you here. Did you come with your brother?"

He nods, a little comforted by a familiar face, but then frowns. "I can't find him, though."

Pao-lin frowns thoughtfully and scans the cafeteria as best as she can. "Mmm...I don't see him from here," she says. "I can help you look for him later, though!" She hands Hubert a plate.

"Huh?" He eyes the plate in mild surprise. He wasn't expecting to eat with Pao-lin, or anyone, really, in his brother's absence. In a sense, it feels a bit mean on Hubert's part to his older sibling, though he takes the plate just to be a little more polite. "I don't think I should be eating without him . . . "

"Huh?" She tilts her head. "Why not?"

Putting his hands together, he looks down at them. "We came together, so we should eat together, right?"

Pao-lin thinks this over.

"Well, maybe he's gotten his food already," she suggests. "I mean, I probably would've, because I love food." She laughs. "But if you're hungry, you shouldn't wait up. I'm sure your brother would feel bad if you starved just because you couldn't find him."

"Maybe . . . " He scowls at the thought. "That wouldn't be fair of him if he already did!"

Looking down at the plate, he nods slowly. If Pao-lin says it's okay . . . "I guess I'll have a little."

Pao-lin nods, and turns her attention back to deciding what she wants to eat on her first round of hitting up the buffet. Ooh, that spaghetti looks delicious...and so does that casserole...and the turkey...and everything else on this table, really. Damn. There's no way she can fit all of that on a single plate. Well, there's always round two.

"Do they have Thanksgiving where you're from?" she asks Hubert. "Or something like it?"

Hubert's nowhere as attentive to the buffet table as Pao-lin. In fact, the way she eyes everything on there is a little alarming. Is she going to eat it all? that can't be good for her stomach . . .

Then she asks him a question, and he shakes his head. "I don't think we've ever celebrated anything like this."

Oh, you bet she is going to try everything on there eventually! But it's hard for her to know where to start first. She finally settles for a traditional setup of turkey, mashed potatoes, and cornbread.

"Ah, I see," she says. "I didn't really have this holiday back in my home country, actually. It wasn't until I moved to Sternbild that I actually celebrated Thanksgiving."

Hubert himself gets a meager serving of turkey, corn, and what have you. Normally he'd eat a little more, but lingering anxiety from being without his brother prevents him from feeling all that hungry.

"Sternbild . . . you mean, you went to live in another country?"

"Yep. When I was 11." Okay, fine, she'll be taking a raisin muffin too. Now she is done raiding the buffet...for the moment. Time to find a place to sit. "HeroTV hired me to become a Hero, so I had to move from Hong Kong to Sternbild City, in America."

He follows suit, still a bit boggled by how she can keep piling food on her plate. "You're a Hero!?" he exclaims in quiet shock, looking up at Pao-lin with wide eyes. "That's amazing . . . "

"Thank you!" She's a bit thrown by Hubert's surprise, since she's pretty sure she told him about her Hero job the first time they met, but then she remembers that this Hubert doesn't know that. Pao-lin begins leading the two of them over to a miraculously empty table. "It's hard work, and dangerous most of the time, but it's a lot of fun."

Hubert takes a seat across Pao-lin, listening intently. "And you started at 11? It wasn't scary . . . ?" He looks down at his lap and plays with his hands, unnerved by the mere thought of dangerous work.

"Oh, it was definitely pretty scary," Pao-lin says through a mouthful of food. Graceful, this one. "But...I was happy to be doing something useful with my powers, too. It felt good to be able to help people like that." And she didn't feel like as much of a freak, either. Would've been a little hard to, considering she was surrounded with other NEXT like herself at HeroTV.

Not touching his food just yet, out of curiosity he continues, "What kind of powers do you have?" Every Hero had a special ability, didn't he or she? It's worth looking into.

"I can generate and control lightning!" She demonstrates by holding up a fist and producing a few little sparks around it -- a mini lightshow.

"Wow . . . !" he exclaims, watching the sparks. "That's awesome. You make it look so easy."

"It wasn't always easy," Pao-lin explains. "It took a few years before I could control my powers so that I wouldn't accidentally hurt people."

The way she puts it truly does sound heroic, and Hubert appreciates her efforts even though they're from different places. "But if you started at 11, doesn't that mean you were doing all of this at a really early age?"

Pao-lin nods as she chews on a piece of turkey. "I got my powers when I was six years old. And I started training in kung fu the year before that, too."

He lets out a breath of awe. Training at five years old is intense. "I'm twice that age, but I haven't done much of anything . . . You're so dedicated."
