Who: Everyone!
What: Thanksgiving + New Feather party.
When: Evening of the 20th.
Where: School cafeteria, nicely done up.
Summary: There's food. And there's also board games, are you game for some Snakes and Ladders?
Rating: Let's put this all over the board. Strange stuff can happen, man.
[Thanksgiving may not be a familiar holiday to most in Luceti, but everyone understands potluck, at least! Hopefully. Preferably.

It's all done buffet-style as usual. Thanksgiving stuff greets you first when you grab a plate and get in line at the buffet lines (food and drink provided by everyone, Thanksgiving stuff courtesy of the Welcome Centre and Ginia). Though of course, don't think that you have to stand in a line while eating! There's tables and chairs for sitting and talking and— eating, obviously. Reach out and grab a drink! If you get one that's been prepared by the Welcome Centre, it's non-alcoholic. Can't really say the same for anything else brought by others, so you may want to be careful. Y'know, just in case.

He's a nerd, that's what.

Nodding to himself, Hubert clasps his hands together and thinks of when he should be able to access such books. "I'll be sure to read them. Maybe we can quiz each other afterward."

Pao-lin stares at Hubert for a moment...

...and then breaks out into a gigglefit. Proooobably not the reaction he expected.

"H-huh?

Oh no she's laughing at him, did he say something funny even though he was being completely sincere. Hubert panics. What if she thinks he's weird or boring? But she's giggling . . .

Pao-lin manages to compose herself eventually. She gives him a warm smile.

"I'd love to do that," she says. "I usually find studying boring, but I'm sure it'll be fun if I do it with you!" Too bad she won't remember any of it if she ever goes back home to Sternbild. But it's the feeling that matters.

That puts him back into a shyer mood, and he relaxes in his seat, making him appear even smaller. "You think so? Thanks . . . " Asbel doesn't care for reading and Cheria's often trailing after his brother, so this is the kind of companionship Hubert lacks and thus greatly appreciates.

Pao-lin nods. "I bet I could learn a lot from you." Hmm... "Maybe I could teach you something in return."

"Huh?" Her, teach him something? Can he even manage that "something?"

"Sure!" A moment of thought. "I can try teaching you some kung fu, if you'd like." It...didn't quite go as planned when she tried teaching it to Mac, but hey, try try again and all that jazz.

"I'm not sure if I can do something like that . . . " Not that he knows what it entails, exactly, but he can guess from what Pao-lin's talked at length about it.

"It's okay, we'll start simple!" She scoops up another bite of food. "A lot of the really basic stuff involves correct breathing and correct posture, which can be boring but it's important to do it right. And that sort of stuff is useful outside of kung fu, too. It helps me relax and focus."

Except when she doesn't want to. (Schoolwork, she will ignore you forever even you are screaming in pain.)

"If that's all right with you . . . " He puts the utensils down onto the plate, having finished his meager meal. He really doesn't want to trouble Pao-lin if he can help it. A beat, then he glances up with a small smile.

"Um, thanks for eating with me. It was good."

"It's no problem! Eating is always more fun with friends." She glances at Hubert's empty plate. "You're not going to get more?"

Friends. Ah, how nice. He shakes his head softly. "I'm full, and I should look for Brother now."

"I can come with you, if you want." Pao-lin gestures at her plate. "I have to go fill up my plate again anyway."

He utters an airy "ehhh" and looks at her with wide eyes. "You're going to eat more?"

Isn't her stomach going to hurt?

"Why wouldn't I get more?" she asks, confused. "I didn't get to get everything I wanted the first time around, after all." She has to try all the things, dammit!

"You're not . . . full . . . " This is a girl with the belly of a whale. She has to be. But that's not her fault! (Or is it?) Offering a wry smile and sliding out of his seat, he continues, "It's okay. I should be able to get back on my own, so . . . enjoy the rest of the meal."

"Well, if you're sure." And because she can't resist, she reaches out and ruffles his hair a little. "Just remember that you can come talk to me about anything if you need to, okay?"

Hubert tenses when she ruffles his hair, hunching over and sheepishly bowing his head. Finally, he nods. "O-okay . . . Thank you." Raising his head, he takes a few steps before looking over his shoulder at her. "I hope you have a good rest of the night."

She waves a hand. "You too! Hope to see you again soon!"
