What: Fighting bad guys!

Where: The Mining Facility
Summary: It's an underground mine! And the Malnosso want you to kill and capture all the bad guys! Oh, but don't let the rocks fall on you. That could hurt.
Rating: B for BLOOD. Seriously. People are going to die. People have already died. We're not going to make it out of here. We're all screwed, it's Game Over, man!

Seems hard to keep in mind when you're in the middle of a battle, you know?

[ He's knows there's a pretty good reason for it, but he likes keeping mobile more than anything. ]

[Shrug.]

I guess...but I haven't had too many problems with it so far. [It helps knowing that you can easily paralyze your opponent again if you need to. Also helps that it's only the first day and so she's not yet worn down from the fighting.] You're not doing it, then?

[ Though that gives him an idea, and he slips a hand into his pocket to find his, inspects it for a moment before looking back to her. ]

You want mine?

[She blinks at him.]

Well...I guess if you're not going to use yours...

[She steps forward to take it from him.]

[ Man, why bother putting in the effort of walking over when he's just going to toss it anyway. (Not usually the best plan of action in dimly lighted tunnels but since when does Spada think things through?) ]

Better givin' it to someone who's gonna, right?

[It's fortunate Pao-lin has quick reflexes. She deftly catches the device in one hand.]

Thanks. [A moment of thought as she tries to figure out where to put this thing. Her pockets are all full and she left her backpack at the Processing Area in the care of a noncombatant friend. She decides to just take out the old scanner and toss it aside, replacing it with the one Spada gave her.] I didn't expect to run into so many soldiers already...

[ Not the most effective use of extra scanners, but he's not one to comment on it anyway. ]

Havin' trouble keepin' up? [ Spada finds time to make jabs even on battlefields and he's not sorry. He's a little more serious in his next comment, moving a few steps ahead and casting a quick spell of Lightning to illuminate the next area for a second or so. ]

I know what you mean, though. 'least I wasn't expectin' so many in tunnels this small, you know? And ambushes ain't nothin' to scoff at down here.

[ Not that he feels uneasy, or anything. ]

[maybe she should've just thrown the scanner at your face, I bet that would've been SUPER EFFECTIVE

Pao-lin glows blue as she activates her NEXT power, holding out a small orb of bluish-white electricity in one hand as a makeshift flashlight. It probably might not reach as far as Spada's Lightning spell, and it might not be as bright either, but it'll have more staying power.]

Yeah, it's a little tough to maneuver down here. It'll make it hard for me to use my staff. [She left it behind at the Processing Area for now. She figures it's better to check how big the tunnels are first before deciding whether it'd be worth it to bring her staff along on future trips.] Though I have other weapons, at least, and my powers. [And kung fu. Kung fu fixes damn near everything.]

He turns a shoulder to get a better look at both the orb and the source of it, can't help but grin again. ]

Hey, that's pretty cool! [ A beat to consider what she just said instead of focusing on ooh shiny. ] Bein' an alternate light source a power of yours?

[ Yes, literally being. So glowy, Pao-lin. ]

Ah...yeah, I guess. I can make lightning, and sometimes I use it to light the way. [It's handy for when she doesn't feel like looking for the light switch when heading out into the kitchen for a late-night snack. And, well, the glow helps too, she supposes.] But you can too, though, right? [She feels heartened by the idea of meeting another electrically-inclined individual. She only knew one back home, and that one hadn't exactly been the friendly. (...technically it had been two people, but only one personality had been able -- or willing -- to use her NEXT powers. But that's a story for another time.)]

[ Magic's pretty rare in Naraka and basically makes normal people hate you so Spada's never seen anyone else particularly skilled with lightning and it's kind of a pleasant surprise. ]

Yeah, I sorta got stuck with lightning and wind. [ Like a demonstration, he imbues a sword with lightning, and he guesses — he's never thought of it this way — but he guesses it's almost like a torch like that. ] Comes in handy, don't it?

[Welcome to Pao-lin's world, Spada. She lost all her friends at age 6 as soon as it came out that she was a NEXT, and basically was unable to make any new ones until she came to Sternbild. And even then...]

Yeah, it does. [A soft smile.] Sometimes I wish I had ice powers like my friend, though. She can use her ice to launch herself into the air like a rocket. And I think it's better to freeze people than to shock them.
