Summary: It's an underground mine! And the Malnosso want you to kill and capture all the bad guys! Oh, but don't let the rocks fall on you. That could hurt.
Rating: B for BLOOD. Seriously. People are going to die. People have already died. We're not going to make it out of here. We're all screwed, it's Game Over, man!

A vampire.

[It's... remarkable still, to him. And yet he believes her. She's convinced him of the truth of it, certainly.

He even finds himself smiling.]

Rather a conflict of loyalties, I should think.

[Yet the way he says it, he's... amused. Perhaps a touch sympathetic.]

It...was pretty touch and go, yeah. Real conflicty. He's, uhm, actually in the village. Now. Too. Which is all kinds of discombobulating. I mean -- we dated, like, almost ten years ago.

[ she picks at the knee of her jeans. ] Different people, now. Almost different worlds.

At the very least, [it was quiet, almost spoken to himself] at least it sounds as if you both knew. That you were on opposite sides of the matter.

[But he won't dwell on that. Rather, he looks over at her.] ...Complicated, indeed. Then again. [Another smile.] I have never seen a time when a former lover's appearance ever made things simpler.

The current one hasn't been taking it so well. God, I'm taking it well. Angel's just so...[ and then she finally realizes that she's divulging and so glances sharply upwards. ]

[He finishes with his cut and looks over at her.]

Then how about I introduce case-study number two, huh? Riley. His name was Riley. Probably still is. He's married now. And was only about five or six years older, this time. And the one out of five who wasn't from the far off past or the farther off future.

Army. Special forces. I'll give you three guesses as to why all that went super super south super fast.

That... is the downside of the military sort. They have the tendency to do that. Nation and Service over all.

I think he thought I chose first. But being a Slayer isn't like enlisting. It's...it's not what I am, it's who I am. And if he couldn't accept that...?

Sometimes... even enlisted men are like that. There is no other path in life for them but their service to their country. Perhaps they chose it... but perhaps it chose them.
