New Year's brings images of crowds, and songs, and fireworks; staying up til midnight and watching balls or bells being rung. But Luceti is a different time and place. Whether you're partying with friends or watching the sunrise, what are you doing today?

[He cranes his neck to see what she means, then realizes it's the tattoo. He grins.]

That's something reaaaaally important to me, it's not stuck there. It's painted on my skin.

Ohhh, it's important. Make sure you don't wash it off in the bath okay, especially if it's important!

[So she doesn't exactly understand what tattoos are.]

It looks like a... Constellation! It's a cross!

It doesn't wash off. It'll take a lot more than soap and water to get it off.

[He laughs.] It's a Jolly Roger! A symbol for pirates.

That's good, otherwise it would wash off and you'd have to draw it back on again, and it must be really hard to reach your back like that.

[Wait, pirates?!] Oh! Another pirate! Ahoy! [She knows a pirate! They're cool!]

Hahahaha! I doubt I could!

[He raises his eyebrows, and smiles a bit more.] Oh, you've met some of us, eh?

Yeah, Yotsuba met Captain Jack, he's a pirate and he's really cool. He has a pony and Yotsuba got a pony ride!

Do you have a pony too? [If one pirate has a pony then they all must have one!]

Captain Jack? [Another pirate? Wonder who it is. But he laughs.]

No, I don't have a pony. I had my own boat back home, though.

Oooh, okay. Yotsuba thought all pirates would have one... But boats are good too! There are lots of boats at the beach you know, lots of boats! Yotsuba got to see them all, they're really cool, aren't they?

Yeah... I saw them. [And that killed him so much.]

They are nice, huh?

Mm! Really nice, Yotsuba gives them about a nine. Maybe someday Yotsuba can get a ride one one, whoah! [...] Don't you think so too?

[He smiles at her.]

Maybe you can! If a shipwright comes here, maybe we'll be able to make one.

You don't write a ship, you build one, with wood and building blocks and stuff!

[Shipwrights sound silly.]

No, a shipwright is someone who makes ships. He doesn't write them.

Why don't you call them shipmakers then? If you shipwright you write ships and if you shipmake you make ships.

I dunno, kid. Heheh, shipmakers sounds kinda weird, though.

But shipmakers sound like what they s'posed to do. If there was a shipfisher then the shipfisher would go fishing on the ship, like how a shipmake and shipwright make and write ships.

[Doesn't that make sense? She thinks so!]

Who would write ships anyway? Ans it's not shipfishers, it's just fishers. Or, fishermen, actually.

[What is this conversation ON NEW YEAR'S.]

You cooould... Write a story about one! And Yotsuba likes saying shipfishers because it sounds cool. Fishermen makes Yotsuba think of mermaids!

[It's the perfect way to bring in the new year!]

Mermaids, huh? [He smirks.] Ever met one?
