Out with the old....

Who: Everyone
What: New Year's.
When: Dec. 31st, New Year's Eve, to Jan 1st, New Year's Day.
Where: Everywhere
Summary: It's New Year's, and the people of Luceti have a lot to reflect upon, and to look forward to. And on a more meta level, new journal names.
Rating: We'll see...

New Year's brings images of crowds, and songs, and fireworks; staying up til midnight and watching balls or bells being rung. But Luceti is a different time and place. Whether you're partying with friends or watching the sunrise, what are you doing today?

Sometimes. More often than not it was a combined celebration with Christmas holidays. We got to go home if we wanted to. I usually did.

Oh? What was that like?
folklorist: (We can go with that)

I typically let my students go home as well for all the major holidays. But if they choose to stay I also welcomed that as well. But not many usually go with that option. [ Given many of them have very differing religious beliefs after all. ]

It was...rather interesting. A family in Kyoto led my to them. Legends after all are typically well received, especially in the Japanese culture where it's still rather prevalent. But it was hot like a fire only it wouldn't burn you if you stuck your hand in it unless the kitsune wanted it too.

Most of the students of Hogwarts preferred to go home for the holidays or their parents wanted them at home. A few did stay, though. I never did.

So it was a piece of mythology that turned out to be true? [ and now she's wondering if those things exist in her world. ] We've got a few of those as well.
folklorist: (Ever so curious)

Understandable. It's a hard choice being away from family for such things after all. I'd certainly...leave as well. [ Maybe depending on if Nero was going home or not. ]

Yes! Most of the legends in my world are true to some degree. Mythologies painted their own legends though to an...extent. They, um, got lost in translation I suppose you could say. [ Hence why everything is given a much scarier as worse image than it really has. He gives her a curious, interested, look. ] Really? You mean Kitsune or mythologies in general?
loyalotter: (I'm getting a fresh start)

I simply studied for most of my breaks. Or I'd spend the time with my best friends. [ usually at the burrow. ]

All mythologies tend to do that. Having things passed down from generations doesn't mean the legends remain in their purest forms. It's unfortunate, but there's not much to be done about it. [ head shake. ] Our own mythological creatures. We have quite a lot that most people don't believe are real, like sphinxes.
folklorist: (Sigh. Yes of course.)

Always something to be studied. But all work and no play makes for a dull time as the saying goes. It's nice to spend it with family and friends though.

No, no, you're absolutely right. The mythologies of my world are not exactly what the stories portray, perhaps at one time, but they're quite humane and normal in terms of getting along with humans. They're really not as scary as people have been shown to believe. But I...hope to change that someday. [ A sad smile as he sighs slightly. ]

As for sphinxes...we have those as well. Very good at riddles.
