New Year's brings images of crowds, and songs, and fireworks; staying up til midnight and watching balls or bells being rung. But Luceti is a different time and place. Whether you're partying with friends or watching the sunrise, what are you doing today?

[She leans up and plants a kiss at his jawline before resting her head against his shoulder again.]

So am I. We've been through a lot this past year, but at least we can see its passing in peace. The third one for us....

[Almost three years in Luceti? That seems incredible, and yet it's true.]

[There was a lot that he could do without, but at the same time he can't deny that things turned out better than expected by the end.]

It's hard to believe it'll be so long...

[She nods, but then removes the glove from her hand long enough to stare at the ring on her finger fondly.]

I know. It seems a bit surreal, doesn't it? And yet, I wouldn't trade in any of that time.

[Not if it meant forgetting everything that brought her and Kain closer together.]

[Kain looks at the ring, happy at that sight, and at the memories it stirs up.]

Nor would I. Even if we were told we could go home tomorrow, but that we'd forget... I wouldn't ever take such an offer. This has become home. [He makes a face.] ...Experiments aside.

[She sighs at that last part, but of course she nods.]

I wouldn't, either. The price is too high. Still, if we find a way to stay beyond the barrier...maybe we could at least be free here.

If we can be free, and together, I'll take it. I will gladly give up the mountain for you... In a way I already have. I've found my strength.

[If they even did return home now, he doesn't think he'll ever be going up there. He can hold back the darkness himself, now. It's still there and always will be... but he's more accepting of that now.]

[That brings out her smile again, though for more than just her sake. She never wanted him stuck on that stupid mountain, anyway.]

It's better that way, Kain. You don't need to echo Cecil's route to find what you need. Gaining it yourself, in your own way, is much more satisfying.

[And she leans up for a kiss, as those fireworks start.]

[Well, if Rydia thinks it's a good thing, then it must be. Kain has always trusted her about these sort of things more than he's ever been willing to trust himself.]

[There's no need to write out any replies at the moment... instead he kisses her in return.]

[That kiss is all the reply she needs for a while, and Rydia draws in closer, responding passionately. If the others decide on a rooftop visit, they'll just have to wait before she'll pay them any attention.]

[Oh, right, rooftop! That means that Kain doesn't have to hold back or worry about too many potential interruptions save housemates. Knowing this, he's more than willing to match that passion. He wants to make sure she enjoys it.]
