Summary: It's New Year's, and the people of Luceti have a lot to reflect upon, and to look forward to. And on a more meta level, new journal names.

New Year's brings images of crowds, and songs, and fireworks; staying up til midnight and watching balls or bells being rung. But Luceti is a different time and place. Whether you're partying with friends or watching the sunrise, what are you doing today?

Is it usually less so at New Year's?

[godbent]

...Yeah, actually. It's weird - everyone gets into Christmas, and then I make Tanabtata happen, but other than that, nothing. The Organization makes Valentines and Halloween memorable of course, but... New Years tends to get pretty ignored.

Huh. Too bad for Respect for the Aged Day, I guess.

New Year's seems to me like a more solitary kind of holiday, anyway. Or more intimate, anyway.

['Or... introspective? I don't know what word I'm looking for.']

[godbent]

Mm, I guess, but you'd think there would at least be fireworks-

[and... as she says that Miyabi lights off her fireworks from the base of the hill the tree is on. The ones detailed here, that is]

['...Was that her?'

He waits for them to quiet down a little.]

...Well, there you go. Satisfied with it all now?

[godbent]

I... still need to go for a shrine visit.

[cough]

[menial]

Well, yeah, but obviously we're on our way there.

[godbent]

Yeah, that's true.

[Okay, okay. Fair enough] Then I guess I'm more satisfied than I could be.

[menial]

['Fair enough.']

...And I guess that's all I can ask for.

[godbent]

[He? What's He got to do anything. HMPH. She tries to pick up her pace to overtake him at the actual approach to the hill, but it's more flustered and faux-annoyed than anything. She smiles a little]

[menial]

['Is she walking faster now?

...Well, she has short legs anyway. Not that she couldn't lap me five times in a race, but this isn't a race. I can keep up with this pace, and hey, compared to my normal hill, this isn't bad.'

And so he follows suit, about half a step behind her.

'...Wait, what's she smiling about now? You know what, whole fleets have been launched to answer such questions in the past, although about Helens rather than Haruhis. I have no such command. Better just wonder internally for the time being.'

He actually hasn't been to these trees since the time she originally pointed them out to him, so he looks around with curiosity -- not that it's easy to see anything.]

[godbent]

[Well there's one very large Sakura tree (with a dollhouse type thing nestled somewhere in the base but that may or may not be on the far side) at the center of the hill. Circling it are four smaller trees which are the size of normal ones. But he comes here to the base of the hill, claps her hands together, and then goes for a little silent prayer thing]

[menial]

[he'll let her do that in privacy, then, standing back and waiting for her, though his eyes are frequently watching her. He, too, is lost in thought as he considers her, looking like a different girl from behind with her longer hair and currently peaceful demeanor.]

[godbent]

[Clap. And done.

she looks to the trees again and sighs. She then hobbles on over to the base of one of the smaller ones to sit. Snow aside, she's tired]

[menial]

[He goes to offer a short prayer himself.

'Not that I ever believed in that stuff.'

He then glances over at Haruhi.]

Oy, Haruhi. You okay there?

[godbent]

I'm just resting.

[Closing her eyes here. Yep]

[menial]

['Ah, docile Haruhi. As usual, would be cute if she weren't sick and with that grim lineface.']

Don't rest for too long. You don't want to fall asleep out here.

[godbent]

I won't, sheesh.

[ :C ]

[menial]

You look kind of like you're ready to.

[godbent]

Shut up.

[....Nodding off against the tree]

[menial]

[He doesn't bother to repress the slight smile that comes to his lips.]

I'm not carrying you back.

['...I think I just signed up for carrying her back.']

[godbent]

[Shut up she's too busy lightly snoring :C ]

[menial]

[Pauses for a long moment. Then, in a low tone:]

Haruhi?

[When she presumably doesn't respond, he sighs deeply and goes over to see if he can pick her up or not.]

[godbent]

[Well she doesn't weigh that much more than ever... just coats]

[menial]

[It's more a question of if she'll wake up and start accusing him of assault and kidnapping. Still, with that accomplished, he'll start trudging back to the village, his mood surprisingly light, for reasons obscure even to him, as he occasionally pauses to shift her weight and looks at her.

'A peaceful night, a New Year... If I'm stuck here, I guess it could be worse.

...I should probably draw on her face or something, huh.'

But, of course, he doesn't have anything to draw with on him, so he'll just keep trudging on back until he gets back to Haruhi's house.]
