sundead: (with her)

Out with the old....

Who: Everyone
What: New Year's.
When: Dec. 31st, New Year's Eve, to Jan 1st, New Year's Day.
Where: Everywhere
Summary: It's New Year's, and the people of Luceti have a lot to reflect upon, and to look forward to. And on a more meta level, new journal names.
Rating: We'll see...

New Year's brings images of crowds, and songs, and fireworks; staying up til midnight and watching balls or bells being rung. But Luceti is a different time and place. Whether you're partying with friends or watching the sunrise, what are you doing today?

It's all right. Really, it's all right, it's not the first time a spontaneous fireball has been flung at me and it's probably not the last.

[Totally serious on that one.]

So it was created using your magic?
folklorist: (I suppose that works)

[personal profile] folklorist 2012-01-05 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
If-if you're certain. I'm not sure if that's very, um, comforting. [ Especially since you're serious about that Mulder. ]

Ah! Yes a little of Hyt's too.

But I took a solemn vow to keep the streets safe from fireballs... [Kidding, he swears. But now he looks interested in the mention of Hyt.]

That's a really cool trick, to get technical about it. You've been able to combine Filial magic with your own power? Is that a very difficult process?
folklorist: (Do go on I'm listening)

[personal profile] folklorist 2012-01-08 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[ A sheepish laugh from Helios. ] It's a rather good thing it wasn't a fireball. Might have a few mishaps and with all the trees around... [ oh gods it'd be horrible! ]

Ah yes something like that. I suppose it's easier wh-when your magic is mostly elemental. Fire, earth, water. Those sorts of things I've found to be easier to combine together than having solely one type of element at your disposal.

That's true, so in a sense the spirits are just enhancing what you already have... So how did you make that Phoenix, is it a very involved spell for it?
folklorist: (Lets take a look shall we)

[personal profile] folklorist 2012-01-09 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! Well, in a way! I-I suppose it's...different for everyone but for me I have similar techniques and spells which, which the filial spirit's magic can be compounded on...

[ Said Phoenix will circle around above them leaving light trails behind it as it does so. Helios follows with his eyes a childish like gleam to them. ] Oh, w-well not, not entirely too difficult. I-I'm sure with a little practice anyone could do it.

[Mulder watches that Phoenix closely. He's also reminded that he has to get his ass in gear with those Filial abilities, it just takes a lot of time to get ahold of any spirits.]

Anyone could, huh? It's not something requiring any sort of innate magical skill?
folklorist: (We can go with that)

[personal profile] folklorist 2012-01-10 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Well that certainly does help with more advanced techniques. But, no, I don't think having an innate magical skill really reflects on using filial spirit magic. It's a different sort of magic entirely, really. And to be honest I had to get used to using it myself at first despite having magic at my disposal.

Which makes sense, since I'm sure relying on them requires different techniques. Have you been able to get contact with many of them so far?

[He may as well find out all he can about those harder-to-reach ones especially.]
folklorist: (Ever so curious)

[personal profile] folklorist 2012-01-14 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
All of them actually. Hyt proved the most difficult as it's been said to be. But, ah, eventually I was able to find them. A nice warm, sunny, day in the woods helped as well.

I've been thinking Hyt is the one to save for last, for that reason. I've had luck with Nala, so far, but with the distractions around here I haven't gotten to focus on trying anyone else yet.

[But he is determined! Even if it takes years, even if some are always less strong than others he will gather them all.]
folklorist: (Never seen anything like it)

[personal profile] folklorist 2012-01-15 10:09 am (UTC)(link)
Yes Hyt was rather difficult to get a handle on. But I think everyone can hear them eventually. [ Even him with his tarnished soul and past deeds. ]

If you like...I could help you. Never opposed to helping out a fellow villager. But! Good thing is that you've contacted Nala so the other spirits will recognize that and warm up to you after awhile. [ Usually. ]

That's helpful... Who would you advise someone with no particular elemental affinity to try and focus on next? Kipinn maybe, for his friendliness?

[Yeah, he probably needs to find some better focus for contacting his next one...]
folklorist: (Lets take a look shall we)

[personal profile] folklorist 2012-01-21 12:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Kipinn or Faeren are the two best choices. Faeren is a bit shy but you can literally find her anywhere. A soft, gentle voice when dealing with her should do the trick. But otherwise, yes, Kipinn would be my next choice.

Faeren... That's the earth one, right? I was hoping I wouldn't need to take up gardening to connect with her... but I am outside pretty often.
folklorist: (Rather a good listener)

[personal profile] folklorist 2012-01-26 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
The things we do for knowledge. [ A chuckle. ] I don't think gardening is a requirement...but it never hurts to do it while trying to contact Faeren. O-Or really just going out into the forest works.

Hmm... I'll give a long trek into the forest a try, then.

Yes that will most certainly help! It couldn't hurt to have a houseplant or two either. J-Just for the sake of covering your, ah, bases.

I've never been much of a green thumb, but if I can raise goldfish, I'm sure I could maybe manage some kind of a plant.
