New Year's brings images of crowds, and songs, and fireworks; staying up til midnight and watching balls or bells being rung. But Luceti is a different time and place. Whether you're partying with friends or watching the sunrise, what are you doing today?

[There's someone approaching, for sure. Hands in his pockets, Isamu makes his way toward Richard as though he'd just happened to be headed that way on his own.

He says nothing, figuring his friend might be lost in thought, but takes a seat beside him. legs dangling off the edge.]

[ledbythewind]

[The sound of footsteps approaching causes Richard to tense involuntarily, his head whipping around to see who it is... but when he sees Isamu, he relaxes somewhat with a soft smile before turning his gaze back to the sky.]

I wonder whose idea these fireworks were. Whoever it was, they certainly went to a lot of trouble for this.

[musubi]

People need this sort of thing, though. They're a good New Year's constant. Keep everyone reminded of home.

[Even if homesickness could be a result.]

[Richard is silent for a moment, his eyes still on those fireworks.]

It's strange... even though I've returned home twice, it still feels like forever since I last saw my world.

[musubi]

Well, if you came back and all your memories were dumped back on you, then I can see how you'd feel that way.

[ledbythewind]

[He gives a soft laugh.]

That isn't the part that bothered me. But... it feels like living two different lives.

[A beat, then, softly:]

... I'm not sure which one is the real me.

[musubi]

Just because it feels like two lives doesn't mean it literally is...

[He tilts his head up to give Richard a serious look.]

They're both you. You are you.

[ledbythewind]

[Richard blinks, a bit startled to see such a serious expression on Isamu's face, but his own expression quickly smooths out into a quiet smile.]

Sometimes I think you know me better than I know myself.

[musubi]

[He's soon back to smirking.]

Of course I do. I'm just that clever.

[ledbythewind]

But it isn't fair if that only goes one way, you know.

[musubi]

Hey, that's no fault of mine.

[ledbythewind]

[Richard just laughs again.]

In a way, I almost wish we could stay here, as selfish as that may be.

[musubi]

I don't know if I'd call that selfish, after everything you've been through.

This place sucks most of the time, but at least it's a constant.

[ledbythewind]

It would be selfish to the people who look to me as their ruler. I have responsibilities as a king that I can't run away from. I owe them at least that much.

[musubi]

Maybe. I'm always forgetting that part.

Still, I personally wouldn't hold it against you.

[ledbythewind]

To be honest, I'm glad you forget that part. I'd much prefer to just be Richard here-- there's more than enough time for me to be King Richard at home.

[And then he lifts his finger to his lips, thinking.]

Of course, you'll need a title as well.

I tried one of those and I'd rather not bother again.

I could make you a knight or a lord...

No, really. I'm perfectly fine without one. One hundred percent okay.

Even if I said it would help attract more women?

Why would I do that?

[Richard seems genuinely confused, both as to what would motivate him to do that and just what Isamu means by that in the first place.]

But it was mostly me playing, anyway. I get where you're coming from.

[Richard just looks away and down at the water, suddenly reminded of just how bad he can be at reading the situation at times.]
