Summary: It's New Year's, and the people of Luceti have a lot to reflect upon, and to look forward to. And on a more meta level, new journal names.

New Year's brings images of crowds, and songs, and fireworks; staying up til midnight and watching balls or bells being rung. But Luceti is a different time and place. Whether you're partying with friends or watching the sunrise, what are you doing today?

[ Spada notices that, too, but feels better off pretending he doesn't and he's all too quick to whisk the conversation in a different direction. ]

Up on the roofs probably, right?

[ He's got plenty of experience with climbing and he's sure he could manage, so he steps away from Luca, makes sure his gloves are on fine and well because they're handy for this kind of thing. Alternatively, he could borrow a ladder, but ... ]

That's dangerous! This really isn't the best place to watch them from, b-but...

[At least they're not at risk of dying?

Luca's never been built for climbing, though, and maybe that's where his hesitation comes from. Also staying alive sounds good.]

[ He could always help him with the climbing endeavor. Not very well, mind him, but he could try —

(Besides, Luca's under his watch which means there's no dying allowed!) ]

[ you swing a sword as big as you are luca your grip has to be good — ]

[No that isn't the point--

Fine. There's no use arguing anyway, they'd end up going to the roofs regardless. But-- last ditch effort --!!]

There's ice and stuff.

[Look at how convincing that argument is.]

[ Last ditch efforts never work and Spada's impulses tell him to just grab Luca's hand and lead him off to the nearest appropriate building by the delinquent's personal standards of Fireworks Viewing Platforms. ]

So you just gotta be a little more careful. You're good at that kinda thing, right?

[ To be fair, Luca could just stay behind because Spada never necessarily invited him — but that would be a little lame, huh? ]

[He'd never pass up spending time with his best bro anyway, so he'll let himself get led.]

You're right. I'll just worry about you falling then. [Since Spada is reckless, as delinquents are prone to be.]

[ Spada's a careful kind of reckless, though! (Besides, he's not really reckless, not as much as he makes it seem.) ]

Sounds like a waste of worry to me. [ dododo off to some arbitrary building for some wall scaling. ]

[He's a little reckless in Luca's eyes and that's all that matters --]

I don't think so. [man maybe they should've just kept the apartment then they could just climb out the window instead of scaling walls.

[ The apartment's too far away, though, and Spada wouldn't want to watch from way out there. The fireworks are over the plaza, so he'll get them a seat over the plaza, finding his way to the side of one of the stores and pulling aside from crates (it's some leftover knowledge from doing this kind of thing in his freetime, and all).

No wallscaling. It should be simple enough since they're stacked next to the window. ]

Yeah, but I'm tellin' you so.

[Well, he can't argue with that. Spada knows himself better than anyone, after all, and Luca's not in the position to argue any.]

Okay, okay...

[It isn't rocket science but it's not something Luca does in his spare time so-- he'll let Spada head up first.]

[ But Luca's not experienced with this kind of thing, so it makes more sense to Spada to let him go up first — just in case, and all. (He'd be able to catch him —)

He motions to the boxes against the wall, tilts his head while he's at it. ]

You know how to climb, yeah?

[Definitely regretting not trying to be more athletic right now.]

It isn't that hard.

[But he sees Spada's point and shuffles over to them, a small frown on his face. He said that but - nnno climbing isn't hard. He'll even prove it by climbing up without falling.

Look, look, Luca's not totally hopeless.]

[ If he wants a round of an applause, he's not going to get it, and instead Spada follows suit as soon as he thinks the other's not going to kill himself trying to get onto the rooftop, expecting Luca to have moved and if he hasn't he'll be shoving him to do so. ]

You complainin' just to complain then?

[He's moved, thank you! No shoving needed! Although he'll shoot Spada a withering look and turn to watch the fireworks.]

A little, I guess. [If he remembers right --] Helios is doing the fireworks this year, I think. At least, that's what I saw when I was walking [and drinking] earlier.

[ The name rings a bell or two, but he's not all that familiar with him. ]

Helios ... Guy that talks a lot, right? Didn't know he was any good with fireworks.

Me neither. We were talking about a possible snow or ice sculpture competition with a day at the hot springs as a prize for the winning group before... I don't know if we'll actually do it this year, but it's nice to think about, right?

[Maybe next year-- his toes curl at the thought of being here next year, not entirely for happy reasons. Time doesn't move back home, but he still had to...]

He warned me about a lot of the stuff that happens here around Christmas too, like mistletoe and its properties. I'm glad I didn't get caught under any...

[ Mistletoe's far more interesting than ice sculptures, and he leans over with a grin. ]

You know, no one'd be able to blame you for kissin' a girl if it was just 'cause of a mistletoe.

[ hummn. His grin turns a little softer, fonder. ]

Last year — or last cycle, I guess, we actually got presents for Christmas. [ and his was dumb but it made him plenty happy anyway. ]

[No one should blame him for kissing a girl anyway, he likes girls!]

What was yours?

A picture of all of us from Ashihara. [ He falls back on the roof, onto his arms, gets a better look at the fireworks and pretends it's less sentimental that way. ] I dunno how Bil figured it'd be a good idea but it made it with me through two apartments. Dunno where it went after I left.

[Oh, that's-- unexpectedly sweet, and Luca edges closer and probably into blocking his view of the fireworks.] I'm sure it'll turn up if you look for it.

[Unless he doesn't want it.]

[ Yeah, he's blocking his view of the fireworks and damnit, Luca, Spada will be swatting him out of the way. ]

Seems like a 50/50 deal with whether or not your stuff disappears. Some people don't leave anything behind.

[ And with a little laugh: ]

'sides, what's the point of gettin' a picture when the gang's all here, right?

[ Barring Ricardo, but ... ]

[What if he swats back? -- No, he won't, just take to laying back beside him and frown at the fireworks.]

... Yeah, I guess you're right. It'd be nice to have something from home though. Aside from friends, I mean.

[Maybe it's because they could disappear at any time - the Malnosso sending them back or whatever - but. Bluh, this is a bad line of thinking to a new year.]

[ Right on that train of thought ... ]

I guess it's somethin' the Mallies can't take away, huh? Maybe I'll go lookin' for it one of these days.

[ ... Well, they technically still could, but he doesn't see why. ]

It'd really be a nice find.

[Luca's just overly sentimental, though. And he's kind of missing home again.]

[ And he considers that before grinning in Luca's direction. ]
